Hello all,
I have received my acceptance from UMDNJ and Upenn. I was on alternate list at Upenn and received my acceptance just yesterday. I am not able to decide which one to choose. I feel both are good programs. Upenn has a very good reputation of being one of the best schools in US but I was personally more impressed with the school, clinics and faculty at UMDNJ. Moreover, my family is in New Jersey.
My main concern is how much does 'the school you graduate from' factor affect your chances of getting into a specialty program. I have heard that Upenn has a high rate of students who get into residency programs.
I would appreciate if you could please share your thoughts and help me make a decision.
Regards.

Hi Sagi,
Congrats on both acceptances!
If UMDNJ is gonna be cheaper and ur family is living in NJ..it would be better for u in the long run. But I personally dont think commute would be a big deal since NJ is next to Philly...and a lot of students commute to and fro.
Just go with ur gut feeling..before making the decision , go to both schools again(now that u have been accepted , the tension wont be there)...talk to students currently studying there and find out what appeals to u and what doesn't. Jot down the pros and cons and then decide.
I dunno abt UMDNJ but Penn has a high rate of students specialising and I read somewhere on the dental thread(not too sure abt the authenticity) that school rep is one of the many important factors considered by the ad comm when u want to specialize.
Also recently there was a thread on the dental forum comparing BU to UMDNJ so check that out too...someone mentioned abt a cheating scandal at UMDNJ-

Good luck with ur decision!
