Just wondering if anyone know my chances in getting into one of the UMDNJ schools... Here is my stats....

You need to compare to the average stats for the NJ schools:

UMDNJ-RWJ:
Avg GPA is 3.62 Avg MCAT is 30
UMDNJ-NJMS
Avg GPA is 3.47 Avg MCAT is 29

Theres also an osteopathic school if you are interested.

I am a resident who has a 3.2, 3.05BCPM, 32R from one of the best undergrads in the country...what are my chances like...I submitted really early but have heard nothing in the way of interviews

i think u have a pretty good chance, JerseyJim, so go for it! 👍 as for camisho, gpa and mcat isnt everything, still depends on what else you have on your app. numbers-wise, i'd say you have a shot.

I remember your previous posts. If life is fair, you should be geting in. You have a 32 on your MCAT and I understand where you're coming from. Why didn't you apply last year? If our committee held you back, then that's just wrong.

Hey Will,

The committee didn't hold me back...I just felt non-competitive with a 3.04 cumulative at the time and I hadn't taken the MCAT's...I do have an interview coming up at VCU where I am out-of-state, which is why I'm kind of surprised Jersey has shown me no love as of yet.

"pretty nice little Saturday actually, gonna go to Home Depot...maybe Bed Bath and Beyond, I don't know - I don't know if we'll have enough time..."

Thanks everybody

Your numbers are within the range of interviewed/accepted students so i wouldnt sweat it over that. I would give a call to make sure your application is complete at both schools and see what the holdup is about. i think if youre interviewed before christmas before they start interviewing for the waitlist spots, you'll be fine.

I got the vibe the NJMS prized applicants with research experiences while RWJ looked for candidates that wanted to enter primary care so thats what I emphasized in my interviews at both schools. Good luck.

Hey X.O.,

Were you referring to me or JerseyJim in your post? I am complete at both schools (called a long time ago)...how might I ask "what's the holdup?" without sounding like an ass?

btw, I don't have any research experience, but I do have clinical experience in family practice and pediatrics.

thanks,

Camisho

I was responding to Jim's post but the advice applies to your situation too.

If you're sure your complete (all letters in, check cashed, etc. ) then I would send update letters with any new accomplishments and express my interest in the school and why. That's about all you can do without demanding an interview and being pegged as an ass. I would crank out the letter before Thanksgiving because it's still early in the interview season.

I didnt mean to suggest that you needed research experience to get an interview or an acceptance at NJMS. Im sure there are plenty of people that do get in that havent picked up a pippette or tortured animals. I dont have any crazy insights in who gets interviewed and who gets passed. Im not a NJ resident (Im a NYer) and I was surprised to get interviewed much less accepted to both UMDNJs. I guess I must have been a saint in a previous life .

same here! this is incredible.

You both should have good interview experiences at NJMS. The faculty interview is low stress and the student tour was the best I have been on.

Good Luck!

Looking back, my interview at NJMS was one of the most pleasant and least stressful experiences Ive had on the interview trail. They're kind of weak when it comes to communication with applicants but the people they select to interview applicants are the best at putting people at ease.

If you have a chance, get there early and ask politely who will interview you and google them up. I was able to refine my pitch knowing wheter it was a clinical MD versus a research PhD, what kind of research or interests they had,etc and tried to find things in my application to stress. Google is a stalking med applicants best friend .
