Hey guys,

Today I called the UMDNJ School of Dentistry Admissions office and asked them about their AP credit policy. They said they don't take any AP credits under any circumstances. I took AP Chemistry credits for 1 semester of inorganic chemistry. I am now a junior and in upper level science courses, but they said I would have to retake that semester of inorganic chemistry in order for them to even consider me. Would it look bad if I suddenly took first year chemistry during my late junior/early senior year to adcoms? I mean I did not know coming into college that some med/dent schools wouldn't accept AP credits. 😕

Thanks!

UPDATEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! - Ok so a speaker from UMDNJ Admissions came to our school (specifically from the UMDNJ Stratford and Robert Wood Johnson Medical Schools) said that as long as the college/university accepted your AP credits, then they will as well, which also applies to the dental school in Newark. So, now I don't know why the Admissions person on the phone told me that they won't even consider me unless I have taken the course without AP credits. IM CONFUSSEDDD MANNN 🙁

I am attending UMDNJ this fall and I took AP chemistry which gave me credit for the entire year of inorganic chem so I'm not sure how accurate this is...

i was in the same exact position as you. I called and they said I needed to take an upper level INorganic chemistry course, or retake 1st semester inorganic. I just took Biochem(counts for either bio or chem) since it'll help with the 1st year of dental school and it also fulfilled my major as well. I also didn't want to be stuck in a class of 300 with freshmen again.
You just need to complete all the pre-reqs before matriculation.

I am attending UMDNJ in the fall.
