UMich or UChicago?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm also a bit chicago-pritzker biased since I didn't even apply to Michigan.
So which of the voting people actually interviewed at both these places?

Being a Michigan resident and U of M alumus but having not applied to either, I'd go with U Chicago. While both schools have excellent academic reputations, I think the clicical experience at U Chicago would be far better than that received at U of M. Plus Chicago is a way better place than Ann Arbor... WAY BETTER!!!

Chicago would offer more in terms of clinical experience, but for some reason Residency Directors/Adcoms rank UMich much much better than UChicago. I think reputation-wise both schools are good, but UMich is considered in the elite with Yale, Harvard, JHU, etc. whereas UChicago is considered a step below with UPitt, Mayo, etc.

lizard king,
I know that by the usnews ranking you are correct, but having looked at a matchlist from each school, I thought pritzker was far more impressive. Excluding the self-matches which are obviously good at both places. This isn't a matchlist, but take a look at this link.

Michigan matches a lot of people into michigan, obviously both are top notch schools and both can match you wherever you want to be, but, despite the usnews rank I think chicago has the edge.

coop, i agree that chicago's match list looks a little more impressive. But I haven't seen any match lists for UMich over the course of five years, like the one you linked us to for UChicago. I think combining five years kinda skews one's perspective of UChicago's competitiveness in residency programs.

Upon second thought, I don't think either school really has an advantage over the other. I mean, they are both top notch. UChicago has its advantages being in a big city and having a good match list. UMich's curriculum, however, is one of the best because it has P/F, some PBL, and an organ-based approach. But UMich is in dreary Ann Arbor, but then again, it's in the middle of a huge undergrad campus.

Basically, I would be happy at either school. Too bad I don't have the luxury of making this decision. Hopefully I will.
