Hey everyone! I’m super thankful to have multiple acceptances this cycle but have narrowed it down to these two for a few main reasons. Living in Arizona is my dream along with the west coast in general but I would be stupid to not consider staying in my hometown in Michigan due to u of m being such a great program. Would love any help thank you all for reading .

University of Michigan

Pros:

- close to home and support network
- Second year clinicals is great and something i love about the program
- prestigious can guarantee i will be competitive for competitive specialities which is what I think i want to go into- obviously things change.
- has home residency programs in the specialities I am thinking about.
- can continue my research and hobby as an apprentice.
- top hospital as a teaching hospital is great know i will learn a lot!

Cons:

- always wanted to move out of state been here entire life so hard to commit to four more.
- faster paced first year.
- competitive clerkship year I’ve heard
- will i be able to match west coast from a Midwest school with the same amount of ease?
- have always hated winter but guess I’ll be studying anyways.
- part of a big school and less sectioned off so may feel like repetition in some ways.

University of Arizona Phoenix-

Pros:
- clicked with the student body instantly and loved the campus
- pass fail curriculum no one seemed super stressed
- last match was pretty much all west coast and some competitive specialties
- where i would want to practice medicine when i grow up
- enjoy the added components of curriculum nothing seems like a waste of time.

Cons-

- not as “prestigious” afraid of matching for competitive specialties especially if step goes pass fail
- giving up all support from home new place only have been once
-two years before clerkships is not ideal.
- new program so not as funded harder to get connections and places.
- commuting to all rotational hospitals with no main is also not ideal.
- not a lot of home residency’s in specialties I’m interested in

Sorry for the long list everyone but just wanted to get it all down. Any help would be amazing and id appreciate anything immensely.

I mean it's not p/f in clinical year right? I just looked online and seems like they're graded. If you mean p/f pre-clinical, almost all schools are like that now.

I think you should go with UMich. Gives you more options (important if you decide you want academia and/or competitive specialties later on) and you should not have a harder time going to west coast from UMich than University of Arizona. The difference in prestige here is quite substantial. Also have you been to Phoenix and you're sure you'd enjoy it there that much more?

Please attend UMich, especially since you are close to home. You will be able to do residency or practice in Arizona as an attending.
