Applying in 2020-2021. Can anyone comment on UMKC's admissions practices? I know there is a 6-year BS/MD program, but I am looking to apply for the MD program. Are there any anomalies in this process as compared to other schools (i.e. small admission pool due to most seats already taken by BS/MD students, different application timeline, etc.)?

Thanks!

I couldn't tell you much except that there are around 105 BA/MD students each year, which seems to be about the size of a medical school class. I would assume most seats are filled by this program, with very few spots for MD only.

I interviewed there this past cycle. As far as applying, its the same process for most schools. You just submit through AMCAS and then have to do a school specific application through their own website. No required secondary essay if I remember correctly. One strange thing is that they begin classes in January rather than in the Fall because the 20 or so traditional MD students accepted are lumped in with the BS/MD students. They interview ~80 applicants for 20 spots and only had 2 possible dates to choose from. Interview was an 11 station MMI which was terrible.

Dang. Gassin' me up with this description. I'm goin' in.

Applicants should be aware of the implications of their start date. If you are accepted to this program, you may not have heard back from a large fraction of other schools or even interviewed. So applicants better be damn sure they want to attend this school
Do not know why this didn't occur to me. Probably shouldn't apply because it would be quite difficult to turn down an acceptance, but you're correct in your insinuation that UMKC is perhaps not my top choice. Thank you very much for the input.

I am applying here this year, and from what I have heard it seems they take about 20 students for the MD only program, mainly in-state
