Anyone else interviewing here, or planning on attending?

I interviewed this morning. Seemed to go well, although my faculty interview was eerily short - he basically just mentioned that I had good grades, asked me about my pharmacy experience, then talked a bit about the nuclear pharmacy elective since I mentioned that as an interest. I finished around 10-ish minutes before the next one was done.

The process lasted about 4 hours and consisted of a tour, a discussion between an alumni and 2 of the group members, a group activity, the 1 on 1 faculty interview, and then a sort of wrap-up speech by the associate dean.

I'm not sure what kind of an impact the talk with the alumni has, but she did seem to think I was better suited for research, at least at the start of our conversation. I was a bit concerned by that.

I was at the same interview. I felt like i was grilled and had to defend myself during my interview. guess ill just have to wait the 3 weeks to find out anything.

anyone heard anything yet? waiting is the worst part.

I interviewed on 11/09/2012 and received my acceptance letter via snail mail this morning. 🙂

Best of luck to all who applied!

did you recieve a large package or just a letter with instructions? Also was there an email sent to you as well?

It was in a letter-size envelope, but contained the conditional acceptance information, advance deposit form, acceptance form and immunization requirements. There was no email.

I will not be joining you because i recieved a rejection letter. My 2nd of a possible 4

What was the group activity? is it between the applicants or what exactly is expected of you? Also, is there an essay to write? A pharmacist at work told me there will be one but wasn't sure since they applied there before the 2-4 change happened.

The group activity was a worksheet that you worked through with the 10 or so people that were in your group. It's just a fun welcoming activity to get you to calm your nerves and feel confortable. It has nothing to do with your interview and you don't even have to put your name on the paper, but they will take it back up. There was not an essay for me to write last week. The day for me went like this: I arrived and was sent to the cafe to fill out a general information form. After that went to a lecture hall and the Associate Dean spoke to us for 30 minutes or so about all the great things UMKC offers. Then we went to our group activity (30 minutes), then to our interviews (~30 minutes) with a member of the staff, then took a campus tour. We had a 3 on 1 chat with an alumni that has been working out in the community and the final thing was a Q&A with the students that were doing the tour to answer any questions that weren't answered and then we talked about immunizations/contigent acceptance. It took us well over 4 hours to finish but it really did not seem like I was there that long.

All in all UMKC has an amazing program and a ton to offer it's students. I would be ecstatic to get accepted, not so much about the relocation...I live in Texas. But the program is worth the move.

Thanks a lot futrepharmdru12 and all the best to you! Having an idea of what those 4hours entailed is calming my nerves a little bit. I am trying to stay local so I only applied to KU and UMKC hence my anxiety level is extremely high! I had my KU interview and waiting to hear back from them this week and will Interview at UMKC on April 1st. Hopefully will see you there in the fall 👍

Oh well... i guess i gotta try and get in first 🙂

and btw ... one of the UMKC students on rotation at the pharmacy i work at told me they just started a no "D" policy, so failing any class gets one kicked out. I thought a student would atleast get probation before that happens but according to him one is automatically kicked out. He said he had a class he was struggling with in his 5th year and just barely made the C. Not that anyone plans to get a D but stuff happens and getting kicked out would be catastrophic. I gotta investigate how this policy works.

Yes they do have a no D policy. If you do get a D the first time they will hold you back or even drop you back a full year depending on what class it is. Some classes are not able to be repeated until the next fall or spring so that's why you get held back but if you can take it in the summer you will have to repeat it then. I think this is a great policy. I mean it's almost like med school. You don't want a doctor that is prone to make D's making decisions about your health...you surely do not want a pharmacist doing that either. Yes no one plans on getting a D or failing for that matter. Sometimes it happens but you are allowed that one time to mess up, after that the second time around you will be let out of the program. I think that as long as you go to class, study hard and keep communications up with professor (when you don't understand) and don't forget to ask for help soon, you will succeed. If pharmacy school was easy everyone would do it. It needs to be challenging but everyone that gets accepted has the ability to do well in the program if they put the effort and time in.

I'm with you, gotta get in first. I would not let that deter you from UMKC though. It was a great experience at the interview and their program is really top notch.

I thought last Friday's interviews were the last ones. I did not know they were doing some on April 1st. I wonder if that is the true last interview date. I do know that they are opening a satellite campus this semester in Springfield too.

Good luck with your interview!! It was actually stressfree.

I agree with you on the D-policy... given that you have the one chance. And yes, we have had some reeeeaally scary near- misses :scared: with one particular pharmacist at work that i think this policy would have effectively taken care of. It's someone's life we are talking about, so I am with you on that angle.

I believe April 1st is the last one they have, had to reschedule mine and this was the only other date open.

Hey, if you have been accepted to either the Columbia or Kansas City campuses, come join our group on Facebook!! Search "UMKC School of Pharmacy Class of 2017" and come join the fun! 😀

anyone know how many people got pulled off the waitlist last year? I just got waitlisted and need to take a pre-req this summer that is not needed for my other schools. Should i take the class and hope to get in, or stick with the other acceptance and enjoy my summer? The letter mentions the acceptances can happen through August (i doubt this) but you would have to have those classes in to be able to start.

Did you get accepted to KU?

I'm not sure about how many people got pulled off the wait-list, but my friend was 25th on the wait-list and got accepted the Friday before classes started. So it's possible to get accepted through August.

Thanks for your response... was hoping for atleast 5, so 25 is great. Was this last year.... or rather after UMKC started the rolling admissions? I'm guessing they've already had people decline and filled those spots up as they went.
