Hey everyone,

I interviewed at UMKC early this month, on my interview day I missed out on the tour of the school and the clinics because my interviewer was late due to weather and the school closed early. I couldn't stay in KC and went back to Iowa.

Last week they called me and told me I have been accepted. I wanted to know more about their clinics. Any info is appreciated.

I searched online and on the forum, didn't really find much info.

Hi,

Congratulations on your acceptance. I graduated in 1995 and it was a very good experience. However, beware of second year because man oh man, it was tough! DP

I start at UMKC SOD in the fall, so I don't know much. The clinic was recently renovated and charting is paperless now. I have a few friends in their 3rd and 4th years and there is no shortage of patients to fulfill graduation requirements. From what I have heard, the clinic professors are a great help. I truly feel like UMKC gives it's students an excellent clinical experience (based on shadowing many dentists who went there, all of which had only good things to say), and that's one of the reasons I wanted to go there so badly. Hope this helps a little.

Thank you Dr. Dai Phan for the heads up 😀, first one worries about getting accepted, next is starting off and the worrying never stops with dental school!!!! I am gonna enjoy the next 4 years.

NotPennysBoat, thanks for the input it did help. Can you tell me how safe is KC in general, i have been thinking about that..

You know, I think with any big city comes the rough parts of town. I'm planning on living in or very near the Country Club Plaza in KC. I think Kansas City is fine as long as you know where you should and shouldn't go. There are safe neighborhoods (ie Brookside) where a lot of dental students live. There are safe places to do your grocery shopping and have fun with friends. On the flip side, there are areas that you would be very scared to walk in at night (or day for that matter). The dental school is kind of on the borderline of safe/unsafe, but it isn't so bad that I didn't want to attend school there. If you have any specific questions you can PM me and I can do my best to answer them.
