UMKC M.D. Only Program

Looking for info on the UMKC M.D. Only program (allows entrance into the second semester of Year 2 of their 6-year combined BA/MD program, effectively making it a 4.5 year M.D.). If anyone has applied before or knows more about it, please post...

Hey guys:
So I know you can apply for the MD only and start as a second year. so what about the first year that you miss when you get thrown in the second year? It just isn't clear to me....you start in the second year and then complete four, so the MD only program here actually takes longer than a regular allo program....is that right?

i applied to the 6 year program back when i was applying to colleges and got in....wasnt sure if i wanted to be a doctor back then and pulled out though

i thought i remember them telling me during my interview that they didnt have a four year program....?

You join the BA/MD students halfway through year two of the six year program. So, yeah it's a few months longer than a "regular" medical school (4.5 vs 4 years). The other kicker is you must already have a bachelor's degree to be accepted as an MD only student. I imagine you only miss the normal med-school pre-reqs: chem, o-chem, physics.

I left this program a few years back.

I started in the BA/MD track, then I left and went mainstream. I'm applying this cycle

What to know:

Low USMLE scores- they're doing better, but they'd occasionally throw a twist in the curriculum to combat this

Everyone in your class will be 20 and will have been together for 2 years already. There will be some social ackwardness.

The faculty/staff. Not so great, I asked one professor for help and was actually told "No". The overall feel was that they didn't support the student's that well. (this does change at year 3 somewhat so you'd be entering at a better place than the standard class)

You're competing for 20 spots, roughly.

Great clinical, I'll give 'em that. They do send out some great doctors.

Overall: don't touch this program unless you absolutely know what you're getting into.

I saw your post from Last year when I was trying to do a search on UMKC MD-only program. Do you happen to know if they had a MCAT minimum score?
Also, were you trying to apply this program again on the MD-only side?
Any other informaiton I should know?

I know somebody that applied to enter in Jan 2006 (last app cycle).

Her stats were: 28, 3.6, and great ECs.

They only took 5 admits that year and she was told that she was in the top 10 of the 36 they interviewed (bummer for her, because I had another friend get in 3 years prior when they had an admitting class of 18). It really just depends on how many drop out of the program for that given year. If you are from MO, it is definitey worth applying, as I don't think many people know about it.
