I am having a hard time deciding between these two schools....any thoughts?

I am in the same boat as you are. The only difference is that I was deciding between UMKC and Creighton. Honestly, I am pretty sure I'm going to go with UMKC. I do think that they are one of the best schools in the midwest.

Looking at the financial side, you will not be able to find a better school for the price. The campus may not be all that, but Kansas City has plenty of nice areas to live in. I met a few students when I came to visit and it seems to be a very comfortable environment. Also, people seem to really care about each other and help each other whenever possible.

If you have any more questions let me know.

I would look at the area and decide if I wanted to be in a college town or in a non-college urban area and the respective costs. It seems as if the two dental schools are equally situated for quality of education.

1. Top 10 in boards
2. Patient pool
3. Lots to do in KC
4. Tuition Reasonable
5. Students are great

I'm a 2nd year at UNMC. It has been a fantastic experience thus far. We take Part I boards after 1st year. There are roughly 45 students in each class. The instructors are great.

Board score wise, last year the classes ranked #4 in Part I and #1 in the written part of part II (I think the clinical portion was lower). They have had maybe a handful of students drop out or fail, but in general, everybody gets through.

I would be the last person to be able to tell you how Lincoln is. I commute from Omaha everyday.

Nebraska? who would go to Nebraska, dead town, cold
I have been there, not for dental school, the whole town sucks

Does that matter much during dental school? You are busy anyway and you can move when you're done. Most of the younger students (I'm older) that are here seem to be enjoying themselves in Lincoln.

I will agree it is cold (I lived in TX prior), but I think that the small class size is great. The instructors here are fantastic as well. I can't think of a single person who appears to be unfair to students, in fact, most are willing to go way out of their way to help us out.

Kansas City is a cool city though, I would certainly say it seems better than Lincoln. The choice really comes down to which SCHOOL the OP got a better impression of (and perhaps which will be cheaper).

I would go to UMKC. We have a saying here at Creighton about Nebraska: It's the next best thing to an education.😀

That made me laugh out loud!! How true, how true.

Wow. I thought you guys were kidding. We never even talk about Creighton at our school. I think you guys must have the upper hand in this one sided rivalry.

Hey Creighton students...why don't you go ahead and list your school's latest board scores and see if they're twice as good as Nebraska's...that way we can all see that paying close to twice as much in tuition is really worth it .
