Well, this is the week the admissions director told my interview group that they were aiming to let us know by, but seeing as there are so many of you who interviewed earlier than I did (second half of Decemeber) and still haven't heard back, maybe I won't hear back this week. But maybe they are going to notify all of us this week. Who knows. . .

Heh, this thread is sort of depressing. They told us they'd have decisions by the end of January and I was part of the early Jan interview group. Based on how they've been doing with the lot of you who interviewed in December, I have little confidence that I'll be hearing back soon..

hey wjin, if you don;t mind me asking, when was your file complete ? im anxiously waiting for an interview from them. i was complete close to the end of october.

I was complete mid Nov and haven't heard back yet. For what it is worth in light of other posts on this thread: last week I sent them email about my status and got reply stating that my file is 'out for review' and I should 'hear something soon'.

Nope,
Wednesday has officially began.
I guess we have until Friday to find out.
Someone earlier posted that they called and were told that Paul White will be making calls at the end of this week.
Only 3 days to wait.

So, I called the admissions office and was told that a final decision was made on my application yesterday...the person I talked to didn't know if Dr. White had made all of the phone calls yet or not...anyone know or have any insight in how to find out?

First off, Dr White just called me and told me I am in.
I am overwhelmed with emotions. I am thrilled and very excited.
Minnesota was my number one choice.

If your file has been reviewed and decision made, then chances are you may or may not find out very soon. I know for sure my file has been through admission committee 3 weeks ago and the decision has been made. However only today Dr White called me. So if you are in, you may find out soon, or in 3 weeks. Hopefully you can find out soon.

For those who are waiting, any news?

I just got in, whew, this was my first acceptance. It feels so good to be in somewhere! Good luck to the rest of you.
 
Congrats to you guys! That is awesome! I don't think I got a call, although I am way up near Canada and only have scraps of reception. I wonder if Paul White leaves messages if he doesn't get through. I interviewed late December. Anyone with a late December or later interview date get an acceptance call?
 
Oh man, I didn't get the call yet... I hope he's still calling tomorrow! It's weird that he called so close to the end of the day. I hope he doesn't do that tomorrow or I might go crazy!

Hi everyone. Here's a quick question, and feel free to laugh: I applied pretty late in the cycle and completed all my secondaries in Novemeber and Decemeber--however I'm just now taking another look at UMN. I love the Twin Cities and it looks like a good school--is it worth submitting a secondary at this late date? When they sent me the secondary invitation there was no due date and all those questions were daunting, so I put it off. Does anyone know whether they've already filled all their interview slots (as Michigan did recently). I guess I can call the admissions office but I thought I'd ask here first. 🙂

I would, I believe that this year they switched to a non-rolling admissions policy. Paul White had said that they make acceptances in "December" and in "March", evidently they hold on to people of interest and may not neccessarily accept them in December but hold on to them to look at people who may apply later in the cycle and then make a final decision.

No, they are definately still offering interviews. If you really like the school, then go for it! Good Luck!! :luck:

I just got accepted!! Yay! I'm so very, very happy! FYI - I interviewed in mid-December.
 
I just called Mrs. Galvin and she said that a decision has been made on my application and that I should hear about this by next week. But she has no clue as to what the decision is. I interviewed at the beginning of Jan.... Keeping my fingers crossed....

That's awesome. When you say early Jan, do you mean early early? Mine was the 9th or 10th or something. I can't wait to hear back..
 
Yeah, I spoke with Lola Galvin today as well. . .about 2 or 3 pm ET. . .and she said Dr. White had made some calls today but that he hadn't been able to make all of them before he left the office and would continue calling on Monday.

I don't know what to do.
Should I go, or should I skip and just work with what I have?

it is NOT "Dr. White" or "Dean White," it is Mr. White. It kind of frustrates me that he misrepresents himself and does not correct people when they call him Dr. or Dean, he is neither.

Yes, I remember this discussion earlier in the thread. Lola Galvan called him "Dr. White" on the phone, so I assumed that she would know how to address him correctly. Okay, so then he definitely does not have a PhD or MD? And he is not the Dean or Director of Admission?

So it works like this: He is the assistant dean of admissions. You can think of that like the VP of admissions. There is no regular dean of admissions--just the real, all encompasing dean of the medical school--Ms. Powell. So there are quite a few other assistant/vice/associate deans.

He is a lawyer. The confusion comes from the JD moniker--Juris doctor. Traditionally in the U.S., lawyers do not use the Dr. as part of their names--doctors of philosophy and medicine do. Check your local yellow pages in the attorney section if you doubt this.

Who cares how we call Paul White as long as he calls us with the happy news.

Any of the accepted applicants who wrote a letter of intent or interest?
I did write a letter of interest about 2 days before my file was reviewed.

I am so excited about this admission, more than getting my first one.

Those who interviewed later, keep hope alive. I am sure he has more people to call. It is just a long and painful process of waiting.

i was supposed to hear back in mid january according to their email, i interviewed in late november. havent received any phone calls, emails, or letters.
 
I interviewed in mid December have not yet received word. I'm expecting a waitlist since I am OOS even though my interviewer told me I was a "fantastic applicant". Too bad I wasn't super-fantastic...oh well

Hold on till Monday! Not all the calls have gone out yet! I wonder what determines the order of calls. Hopefully not interview date, because we both interviewed around the same time and some Jan interviewees have already heard. Maybe it's alphabetical. Or random. Anyway, hope you get good news tomorrow!

I hope they call before my mail comes tomorrow. The thought of anxiously rifling through the mail once again is a bit scary. :scared:
 
Oh my gosh, I am so fed up right now!!! 😡 I got impatient and finally called to ask about my application status (I had called and emailed before, but I never got an answer). I was told that my file hadn't been reviewed by adcom and wouldn't be until next Wednesday (they aren't meeting this week). She said I should expect to hear the following Friday (Feb. 8th). 😱

I interviewed on December 3rd!!! Also, I don't know about you, but I certainly don't think that February 8th is mid-January!!! First it's December 15th, then the 20th, then mid-January, now February 8th! I know for a fact that other people from my interview group heard last week, so how did I get so unlucky!?

I know that I'm ranting but it is seriously not okay to give us these deadlines and then not even try to stick to them. I have been stressing out since about January 14th and for nothing!

Ha ha...well I think a little ranting is probably warranted Shortstack. Those of us who were supposed to hear back in mid-December were jerked around too. What happened to the 'non-rolling', only accepting people on two dates (mid Dec, mid March)? They're churning out decisions every couple of weeks now...sounds like rolling to me.

Is there anyone else out there who was placed on their 'wait list'? When do you suppose we'll hear back from them? I'm hoping for March since they should have reviewed most applicants by then, but is that being too hopeful? With their track record for 'timeliness' it probably is a long shot to hope for word that soon.

I'm not expecting anything until May honestly.
 
I interviewed Nov. 30th and heard back Thursday. It seems like Minnesota likes to do everything all at once. I was part of the 'first wave.' Good luck again everyone.
 
I just got accepted! I was literally dialing their number to see if they were still making calls today, since it is getting sort of late, when I got a call from Paul White. Good luck you guys, and I hope you get good news later today!

I think one of the reasons that could hold off your decision is the speed with which your interviewer submits his report. If he is super slow and did not submit it yet, or did so late. Then there is nothing adcom can do. They will just wait until he submits it.
It sucks, I know, I have been in the same boat. You all remember me posting my rage several times. Hey. Patience sometimes pays off.
At the end it is the decision that we want, not the speed with which we get it. Positive decision is what I mean.
I will pray for you to get a positive decision.

How bad is it to call and ask for an update if they'd told me originally that I'd be hearing back late Jan/early Feb?

I know.. half of you will be rolling your eyes, but the other half hopefully get why I'm asking 🙂
