Obviously, 25 and up are out of this world and can walk in
any school of Dentistry..Thats why Mr. JAAP's vote is not

Anonymous or not, these numbers are still ridiculously high. So far, 30 out of 34 have a 19 or higher.

Also, assuming that the highest you can make is a 24, the average thus far is 20.44.
 
Geez, crazy scores being polled. The average is like 20+. Where 18 or 17 is suppose to be the average, if you get that score here, you're in the bottom 20% among the SDNers.

Why would anyone want to lie about their scores?? Its not like we know who these people actually are--I think that barely anyone, if anyone, lies about their scores.
 
it's a fact that about 70 something percent of scores posted are fake anyway. If these scores are correct then we have the brightest and most promising group of dental students here on SDN.

I agree. If the National average is 17... There should have been more 15's and 16's.

How do you figure it is a FACT that 70% of the scores are fake?

IMO, anybody persistant enough to come to this website EVERYDAY can probably score 20-21 on the DAT, so it seems reasonable.

It seems very "un-informed" to state that if you come to a web site daily you have persistence enough to score 20-21 on the DAT. What does visiting a web site have to do with your DAT score? Dang, so all I have to do is visit SDN once a day and I can scores 20's across the board??? Dental school here I come!!!:laugh:
 
Take home message:

I dont think its too far fetched that SDN has a disportionately large population of overachievers.
 
I never said anything about SDN'ers, I only said it was stupid to say that if you have enough persistence, if that's what you want to call it, to visist SDN daily, you'll score well on the DAT. C'mon now!

If your going to pick apart that statement, then we could easily pick apart your statement that its a fact that 70% of scores are faked or something ridiculous like that. I know mine arent, and if people come here for advice why would they post fake scores and get advice catered towards someone with higher scores. Plus, its freakin anonymous.

Fact of the matter is is that SDNers have higher scores than the general population. Why? Because these are the people who are really devoted to becoming dentists, they come to SDN to learn and post because they are dedicated, not because they are lazy. And they KNOW they have to work really hard on the DAT to ensure admission, and because they are so dedicated they do work harder. Its not because people are lying, its because these are the people who have really done their homework and worked hard.

It would be pretty pathetic if we sat here and posted all the time trading all this information and then consistently scored below the national average, now wouldnt it.

Are you stupid or just ignorant? Nobody said SDN'ers weren't good students or potential dentists. But...just because you log onto SDN doen't mean you are dedicated to dentistry. If someone looks at Psychology web sites does that make them a shoe-in to be a Psych professor? If someone looks at porn everyday on the net does that mean they would be great in the porn industry? The answer is no. Just because someone logs onto SDN does not mean they'll be a great dentist, or even make it to dental school. Alot of what I've seen are people just looking for extra moral support and hope because they are not confident about making it to dental school. Please, next time you reply to my posts, be a little more intelligent.

Come on now chief, im not the one that tried to justify the fact that most of the scores people post are fake because 70% of scores posted are fake anyway. Seems fairly stupid and ignorant to me. And I am not even the one that said that just logging onto a website makes your score better. I was just trying to shed a little more light on what I thought somebody meant when they said it.

If you actually READ what I wrote I thought I gave a very plausible explanation about why I thought people on SDN score better, and it had NOTHING to do about simply logging onto a website. And I stand by what I wrote, despite what you may think.

So grow up buddy, and youll be getting these unintelligent, stupid, and ignorant replies to your posts from me as long as you keep throwing this $hit at us.

why would anyone lie about his score if it's anonymous for god sake? and YES, I also think that people that visit this website frequently do better than the average and not because the website makes you smart, but because it's a wake up call for many of us. I initially thought that I was going to study for one week only before I took the DAT?s. However, after I visited this website, I knew that I had to do well on my DAT's since I saw that so many people here are high caliber, therefore I studied hard cuz I knew that the people I was competing against are high caliber....I think that's what some of the people here are trying to say....I think this website is in a way a reality check for a lot of us that you can't slack out this year, it's getting more competitive each year so people study harder, that's all there is to it. And finally, why on earth would anyone lie?

If Raider, or anybody, can give a source for the percentage of people that lie about their stats, this whole argument would be settled. If a source can't be given, then everyone should be given the benefit of the doubt. Bottom line, however, believe what you want to believe.

Man arns, you almost sounded patriotic in your last post with the whole throwing $hit at you thing. And it was followed up by some nice posts by our pelon friend Aphistis and mind of a caveman Shawn.

Anyway, it was quoted here a while ago by a senior SDN'er that over 70% of stats posted on the net were fake. I don't remeber is it was here or the MD forum. Who cares though, beleive whatever you want.

Oh yes, arns, I was referring to your buddy shawn when I talked about SDN'ers being the future of dentistry, blah blah blah...please be a little more mature next time, and refrain from the foul language. Let's get some respect in here please.

I don't know much about statistics, but it looks like we have a standard bell-curve going here......this most likely means that these stats are a semi-accurate sample of the people on SDN.

If you think a 21 average (as of this posting) is representative of the test-taking population nationwide, you're...well, I'll spare you the more colorful descriptors. You're simply incorrect.

17 and 18 haven't been the average for 2 or 3 years now.

Heck, the "average" from that website with stats that everybody likes to post is a 19, and THAT is two years old!
 
Yes. But that was the average for matriculants. I doubt the average for all applicants is a 19.

Dude, I simply posted a disagreement to what you had said. I didnt call you names or anything, and I gave reasons as to why I disagreed with you.

HOW can you take this moral high ground when in the response to my post you asked if I were stupid or ignorant and told me to write more intelligent posts. I was only stating my opinion buddy, and I never once attacked you. If you want more respect in here then dont attack others like you have here and in other threads.

My only proof is the stats page, and the poll at the beginning of this thread which are both higher than national averages of applicants. I know its not conclusive proof, but its enough for me to believe that SDNers score higher.

Anyways, no hard feelings, and lets let it die. After all, it is a possibility that people do lie and these numbers are not correct so neither of us can know for sure.

Referring to his post immediately prior to this, and his post history in certain other threads, I think he gets some sort of affirmation from thinking he's shown somebody else up. You can try continuing to be civil; maybe it'll start working one of these times. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, though 😀
