Does anyone know where PH students generally live at UNC? I know there is student housing specifically for grad students, but do most people live there or rent apartments close to campus? Thanks!

Hi there!

I'm also going to UNC next fall and am looking for a place to live. I'll be starting the MSPH/PhD in Epi - what about you? From what I hear, students live all over the place, but not that many in the on-campus housing. Lots of grad students live in the neighboring town of Carrboro or in Durham because it's less expensive, but lots of students also live in Chapel Hill. I know that's not very specific...but with 10,000 grad students at UNC-CH, I guess it must be hard for them to stay in one area!

PM me if you might be interested in finding an apt together! I'm leaning towards finding something very close to campus, so I don't have to deal with the bus system. 🙂

I'm just finishing my MPH courses at UNC - have the paper and practicum left to do, in conjunction with my Prev Med classes.

Having gone to school in the DC area and SF Bay Area, finding housing here was relatively easy. Many students live in Durham or Carrboro, because they are cheaper than Chapel Hill proper and the buslines are free. I live 1/2 south of the school, which was a little more pricey, but worth being able to walk to school. The area in which I live has mostly grad students in older, smaller homes. There are a few houses with 4 to 6 undergrads sharing them. It's pretty quiet and near a bus line.

PM me if you have more Qs. BTW, the other side of my duplex will be vacant this coming summer.
