Has anyone who inteviewed at UNC-Chapel Hill in IM received any unsolicited post-interview feedback from the program?

Hi Daiphon!
The IM program director at UNC is a strong believer in the match system and doesn't contact applicants at all after their interviews, so it is not negative if you haven't heard from him... As an insider at UNC, I can tell you that it is an incredible environment with unparalleled training. Good luck!

I remember at my interview day the PD went through their process of ranking and explicitly stated that they don't contact anyone.

Personally, I LOVED that! I wish every program was as forthcoming.

Also, as nice as it is to come home to a message on the machine or a letter in the mail, I wish other programs would not try to influence us post-interview.

Actually, in my view, the programs that have sent me multiple letters have started to look a little desperate.

Too bad I didn't realized till after interviews that the way the match is described and the way it actually goes off are two different things.

In the first year at UNC one has 5-6 ward months. Does anyone now how many of those months are general medicine vs. subspecialty ward months. Are they all GenMed and subspecialty wards considered consults/electives.

Dude -- did you interview there?

It's all subspecialty wards (with I think maybe 1 gen ward from what I remember).

i'm not sure of the exact number, but i think there are a couple general wards months, and then one each of heme-onc, ID, renal, cards (CCU), and maybe geriatrics. there used to be a gi service, but this year they changed those patients to general wards care with gi consults for extra help.

the subspecialty services are phenomenal, with dynamic attendings who are focused on teaching in their specialty area. these services are great learning environments, and are perhaps better for patient care than the general wards.

i think there are few programs in the country that have their wards services set up like this; anyone else know the others? i think maybe NEMC and U.Michigan.

Ohio State also.

I think it's a huge plus b/c it fits my concentrated style of learning
