UNC's secondary has this essay and an NC residency application.
Among other qualities, we seek candidates who bring commitment, initiative, and independence to their volunteer activities, research projects, and/or health-related employment. Please describe an activity in which you have participated that exemplifies these qualities, as they relate to medicine. Please do not exceed 300 words.
I'm so irritated that UNC's status page doesn't seem to be activated. 😡 I can't check my mail for a few days so I will be on pins and needles until I get back.
I got a secondary on the 28th too! It took them about two weeks from the initial letter stating they received my app until I got my secondary. Two week deadline...I am sooooooo excited!
Whats up? Well, I miss North Carolina a lot. I graduate from NC State in May 2003 and I am currently working at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. I am currently applying and my AMCAS has already been submitted. I am just waiting on my MCAT scores now. Did any of you get secondaries without MCAT scores. I believe that UNC waits until they get MCATs to send out secondaries, I'm not sure. Again congrats to my NC peeps! Goodluck and keep in touch!
I'm at work right now and don't have the application on me, but I did see an essay question about a single experience that shows leadership, motivation, etc but also relates to medicine.
There is also a whole lot of documentation to go through to prove that you're actually a NC resident, before they offer you an interview... though they do generally offer interviews to everyone they give secondaries to.
I have a question about the UNC curriculum. It seems like every other medical school talks about what type of curriculum they pursue...ya know PBL, take it system by system. But I can't seem to find anything about that on the UNC website. Every link that looks promising gives me an error or requires a password.
to expound on 'core classes' first year, you have lecture every day until about noon except for T-TH when you have anatomy lecture and lab in the afternooon. also, one additional day a week you are in an afternoon 'clinical medicine' seminar.
there is no pbl really, but pbl-type sessions are integrated into a class or two about once a week.
anatomy lasts one semester. .. hmm that's all the stuff i can really think to say abt first year curriculum. of course i'll learn more as the year goes on 🙂
