Hello
I recently came across this website and was wondering if the things on this website are really true?
Or are they from few of the whiners keep on posting complains over and over again?

What do you mean by that face?? lol

What do you mean by that face?? lol

look at their site traffic link for about a week and read the posts for a week

that will answer your question in a weeks time 🙂

Read the posts over last decade or so and decide for yourself.

Maybe not much traffic but some thoughtful posts.

Before investing your life into something it's good to do some research.

Please don't pick this post apart and ask me all sorts of questions.

Oh, so it's a popularity contest. Hmm, what is a D.P.M.?

Let's see, there are what 11 or 12K podiatrists, 800-900K MD/DOs - sort of a proportionality thing. Ya think?

My post isnt a popularity contest. My post simply gave the MOST unbiased response in this whole thread for the person to decide for him or herself. That's all. I never recommended nor advised not to join podiatry.

For your conveinence, I simply stated this,

look at their site traffic link for about a week and read the posts for a week

that will answer your question in a weeks time 🙂
Basically, in a nutshell, I am saying to look at their traffic numbers, as well as read their posts in order to make an THEIR OWN informative decision as to whether or not he or she agrees with the content posted on the site. I only said a week because people often can't/don't/want to waste what little time they have reading a decade of posts (I tried, but only to find myself stopping after five pages, too much to read ). Ya think 🙂

I was asking this because even though it might be few people posting on that website, it could be true in reality you know.
I was dead set on going into podiatry but this site worried me so just wanted to hear some of your opinions as I think SDN is more reliable site than that one 🙂

The crap on that website is nothing more than wasted space on the internet (akin to the "get a degree from home" and "male enhancement pills" scripts)...I wouldn't think too much into it. I had the same fears when I first started the Pod Process, but came to the realization that alot of that is nothing more than "hot air"...and people with ENTIRELY too much free time 😀

That is so true. Those are very very bad people who have way too much free time. They probably have free time because they are losers, failures, or people who could not make it in podiatry. Stay away from those hot air talkers. If you want true information about podiatry contact the APMA. Who else knows more about podiatry than the people selling it to you?

I guess those male enhancement pills did not work too well.

I read the posts from yesterday and the month before and they look like they were written by illiterate dummies and tricksters. Do not go there. It is the work of Satan!

You are annoying.

Go away.

People post at the uncensored site because it is uncensored. I can not say whatever I'd like to say here. You REALLY get banned for saying too much...
That is simply not true.

What sort of profession restricts criticism yet proclaims to be evolving?
All of them.

It is not such much what people say, but HOW it is said. The same thing ultimately can be said, but if it is a disrespectful, condescending way, it is rarely appreciated. THAT you CAN be banned for. In my native language of Romanian, there is a proverb that goes like this (roughly translated): The TONE makes the music. See what I did there?

Again, criticism is encouraged in all aspects of life. BUT if it is said rudely, with mal intent, or even at the wrong time, it can be misconstrued. Also, if no solutions are provided or there is lack of involvement in helping with a solution, constant criticism is eventually just ignored for obvious reasons. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem. I.e. When colleagues say"This profession sucks!!" I reply, well, what are YOU doing to improve things for yourself and for your colleagues?

You're right, I'm wrong. Have a nice day. Bye.

This of us who post at the Uncensored site have come up with some decent suggestions. If you read them, your post would have been superfluous. The site is already pre-judged and bashed sans any dillegence- READ the stinking posts before you tear into MY language skills- There are solutions, suggestions and advices from legit people who get their posts dissected as if they were a form of personal effrontery-

I'm curious. Other than posting on that site, what are the people making these suggestions actually doing? Do they expect the powers that be (whoever that may be, I know) to read their posts and formulate a plan based on what these people making these suggestions are typing?

You're right though, sometimes some good suggestions DO fall through the cracks, but maybe the mode is incorrect. Posting on a forum on a website will probably not get the message across. Being involved at the state and national level and being politically active might be more impactful. The only way to know for sure is to try it. And not for a week a two. It takes years to initiate change. Those of us that are very actively involved know this.

Oh, btw, I've never even looked at the site, and have not pre-judged anyone. My comments were simply matter of fact and not a criticism.

You are all correct. I am wrong and the posts were made in error.

Follow the guidelines grom the APMA and APMSA and listen carefully to your teachers. That site is not a good fit for serious students looking for a great career with unlimited postential. Podiatric medicine has something for everyone and you will be content with being podiatrists. Make your donations to the podiatric political action funds and support your chosen field of endavor.

OK you can put the weapon down, I wrote it, didn't I? Look, it's right there...

zero, I don't understand the sarcasm in your posts (no one has attacked you first). And the ones with no sarcasm, they have a hint of hostility for the reader. If you wish for us to listen to your points then please be more friendly (if not, then civil). You say your status is an attending (Im not sure how since your not involved in medicine so much anymore) yet you don't exactly carry yourself as one. Your just hurting your own argument. I'm open to arguments (if we werent open to arguments, we would still see the world as flat, just six thousand years old, and that Natural selection is blasphemy).

I come here from time to time for reasons of my own design. This week: I am shopping for a podiatrist or two for one of our clinics. You don't have to believe anything I write. The responses to awkward, uncomfortable and/or zany comments are my way of finding what sort of individual might be suitable. I have no arguments only business to conduct.

This is not an advertising site. Advertising in this way may indeed be a violation of the ToS, so please try not to do it again. Thanks.

Advertising?

You've got to be kidding.

Explain to me why or how this can be gleaned by any reasonable adult as `ADVERTISING'?

Either you've misread what I'd written, or you're being difficult. How in the world is asking questions and responding to posts advertising?

Someone asked me a question. I responded why I came here today.

If your response is to cite a violation of a `ToS' - I'll just post away the obnoxious blather that gets people's attention and read the responses.

The one day that I post an item you don't like, you label it, and threaten me? What kind of crap is that? Is this what you're teaching young podiatrists: The art of snotty, trenchant, pretentious dilettantism, and how to be an officious weasel?

Now that there, is what is meant by the expression: "Hey that's really being podiatric."

This week: I am shopping for a podiatrist or two for one of our clinics.

You are advertising for a position of employment in your clinic. If you think I'm being unfair in my request, please forward such complaint to Jonwill. Thanks.

Don't you think most podiatrists in training would think twice about working for an employer who likes to make "awkward, uncomfortable, zany comments"? I'd rethink your strategy there boss 😉

Fair? No. I think you're trying to bait me.

I think that the notion of fairness is somewhat elusive to you. "Life isn't fair, it isn't supposed to be, Anyone who said it was had been seriously misrepresented." -John F. Kennedy

Advertise: To publish the qualities of a business, product, or service in order to enourage people to buy or use it.

Where in the world is this position that `position of employment'?

Where have I published my name, product or service?

Would you REALLY like to have a reason to censure me? How about asking for the titles of some of my books? Now that would be advertising.

Do you know what advertising is? Find a dictionary.

Oh, one more thing. I can't talk about the real world here. The `leaders' and hall guards have said: No Advertising.

Did you see or read an advertisment?

Whatever, intellectual challenges show a lot about a person. You're probably just starting out….I'm giving you a glimpse of what may lie ahead.

Whatever I've done has worked pretty well so far. Thirty years, no complaints. I divide the bull**** into the real bull**** and the lesser turds. My advice, not advertisement, is to steer clear of the bull**** and have as much fun as you can. If you do that, you'll ALWAYS be ahead of the chumps. Laugh as much as you can, everything else will fall into place.

Waiting for the next barrage of bull**** from somenone freaked from my posts today.

I really don't know why you keep talking about 'advertising'. That's between you and another poster here. Thanks for the advice though. My plan is to work hard, be professional, keep my head down, and not make angry rants online someday about my profession 🙂 Anyways I'm outta this thread 👎

I am shopping for a microwave oven, a Mercury Montego, an airtight alibi, a foolproof plan, a Monza, four fried chicken wings, a genuine Third Reich swizzle stick, some genuine artificial Indian jewelry.

So tell me where to shop? Is shopping advertising?

I think you're old enough to remember how to let your fingers do the walking perhaps?

Time to lock this sucker up!

Why would the APMA or APMSA want to do that? Is it because the higher podiatric authorities do not want some information disseminatied?

The APMA or APMSA? I smell a conspiracy...

I think that Ferocity was just suggesting that this thread has really no purpose any longer except to further this oftentimes silly dispute. Every few months or so someone finds that network54 and posts about it, asking if all podiatrists feel like that. We discuss it, and the thread dies out. I don't think anyone is trying to stifle your freedom of speech here, just trying to keep order.

The statements/messages purported on thhe uncensored podiatry forum are oftentimes witty, show breadth of experience-life, professional, and personal, and rock the boat. Regardless of agreeing/disagreeing they are opinions and stated in a way that may be funny, candid, or down right rude. That is life. Cannot be PC West Coast, polly anna. Life sucks. Life is hard. Gustav Mahler. Look him up. Symphony #2 and #9.

one should perform due diligence for any profession that charges 6 figures in loans given that the APMA voted down any discussion of a sorely needed degree change. 2/3 members want the MD, yet, those who are economically enriched from their jobs in that foot club do not want anything that disturbs the cash flow.

Best of luck.

Neither the APMA nor the APMSA control this website or it's content. The content is monitored by volunteer moderators, only one of which is an employee of the APMA (which is not me btw).

So how much does the APMA pay someone to `monitor' posts?

A profession of 12-15 thousand doctors with maybe half of them members must have a lot of expenses, right?

Advertising, lobbyists, office supplies and equipment, staffing, health insurance, postage, and a whole lot more. A job to `moderate' posts? Is that reflected in the dues that go to the APMA or the state or local groups? How does someone get a job monitoring?

Is there a career path toward becoming an APMA information monitor?

I verily hope this is not construed as an inflammatory post. Just a question about what and where APMA dues go and why.

Please explain the monitor's job. I would like to know if there are any special qualifications. Do you need to have specific training, and if so, at what cost?

It is not the only job this person does for the APMA. I believe it is part and parcel within the PR department, so someone in that department oversees many projects, including this I imagine.

Moderators on this site are volunteers. We are selected by other moderators and go through a type of "training". The position is appointed.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Guys I have been posting on this other site to try and bring the brighter, reasonable ones around and prevent bright applicants from being frightened away from the profession. Some are true thinkers but many IMO are people who have failed in the profession and blame everyone but the person in the mirror. I have let them know that some of their goals I agree with and believe are achievable but their rhetoric and tone actually prevent or slow what they want. I also believe some that post are not even DPMs. On their site they often claim they came here to tell the truth only to be banned. Conspiracy theories are common and many stories are more 1980s than today.

Bottomline they are entitled to their opinions but we will never convince them of ours.

Im a fan of your posts on that forum, I usually read them when I visit the site.

But yes I find their zeal to be self defeating sometimes.. actually all the time

doctazero,

In all seriousness, with no intention of antagonism, I've read a lot of your posts and I'm perplexed.

What exactly IS your agenda? I THOUGHT in earlier posts you referenced some project/research you were involved with that included podiatry, I THOUGHT you also referenced that you were no longer in active practice and I THOUGHT you also referenced that you went back to school and obtained your MD degree.

Now you reference your clinic, and you're constantly slinging insults rather than recommending constructive answers.

So please enlighten me with your agenda and exactly what you are trying to preach. In other words, what's your point?

For what it's worth, I found the above mentioned forum when I was investigating podiatry and it really freaked me out. I then talked with some podiatrists and they settled me down. I'm a very social person and know people in pretty much every field you can imagine. Regardless of the field (or perceived success of the field), there are always the "doom and gloom" people. Why should podiatry be any different?

I will say that the almost uncensored podiatry site is good for a laugh but I have found many of the comments to be off base and many to be down right wrong. I agree with Traum. This is the perception of the field to some (and their experience) whether you like it or not.

I think a lot of this is the result of the deeper issue with podiatry that, unlike other professional schools, we too often admit people that are doomed to fail (ie low admission standards). They see it as an "easy" way to become a doctor and make lots of money. Those who have succeeded know that this is not the case. When this minority fails, they then blame the profession (which is by no means blameless). In the end, it is easier to place blame rather than accept it.

A lot of the problems many of the people on that board faced are being dealt with, or have been dealt with. Allotments definitely help with residency overcrowdings.

My dean lectured for an hour about the changes that have been made in the programs, and discussed the 90's as a dark time for podiatry, with little consistency in training/residency and not enough to go around. Something like 1/2 podiatrists at the time didn't get a residency, leaving then with huge debt and no way to pay it off.

This is a lot of the reason that podiatry school numbers tapered off so much in that time (check out some numbers for overall podiatry students for the last 20 years and see the drop. Only recently have the numbers steadily risen again), and the direction the programs are headed is much of why the numbers have increased.
