Hey I'm new to this forum and I have a couple of questions that im struggling to find an answer to. I currently live in New Jersey and planning to apply to 2 schools in the area and apply to another 2 out west. Whould you consider staying in your own state in driving distance or move to another state. I intend to practice in California, so i figured why not go to a school in California. If I do stay in the area how about I get residency in another state? Would the school cousel you about the board in the state the school is located or overall? I never attended a pre-pharmacy program, I just took the required classes in my University, does that matter? Would you recommend getting your Bacholors before applying? Also, if the schools that I am applying to don't require the PCAT, is there any point taking them? Write back I'm very confused about Pharmacy school. Thanks a lot

Typically - the school will tailor its program to the state in which it resides. Each state has its own rules and regulations - and I honestly dont know much about being certified in more than one state. I think it would be best to attend school in Cali if there is where you eventually would like to end up. Any other ideas???

Which schools will you be applying to in your area? I'm also from NJ and applied to Rutgers (the only in-state NJ school) but didn't hold out much hope because they only take a few if any transfer students a year. The only school nearby taking transfer applicants that I could find was Temple. Like you, I applied to some CA schools also and decided to go to Touro. I think going to school in CA is a good idea if that's eventually where you want to find work. Good Luck!

I would suggest going to school in California if you want to practice there. They take a separate board exam from other states, and they are one (if not the only) state that does not reciprocate with other states. Sdn1977 could probably explain this better.

Thanks for the replys. I was thinking about applying to Rutgers, A & M Schwartz, Western University, and Touro. Stephie, how do you like Touro and how is the surrounding city? Also, do they offere university housing or did you have to find your own apt.

Also, can someone tell me how getting licensed work. If you are licensed in New York can you practice in another state?

I haven't actually started at Touro yet, but I will be a first year student beginning this August. I really liked the school when I went for my interview- great faculty and facilities, 2 years of rotations, nice weather, etc. However, the school is on an island (but very close to other Bay area cities) and there is a lot of construction going on there. In a couple of years the island will look a whole lot different but until then there will be lots of bulldozers. The nearby cities seem very nice and so far the school seems like a great fit for me! As far as housing, there is on campus housing but I'm not sure how great it is. There are plenty of apts available in the surrounding cities though.

I think you should apply to Rutgers (I did too) but just be aware that they only take a few, if any, transfer students a year. They are mainly a school for students just graduating from high school.
