Im looking to do some dental research as an undergraduate at my university, anyone have any research ideas or other research that has been done that can be taken further in terms of more research?

Getting dental specific research as an undergrad may be tough considering that these projects will go to dental students who are most likely wanting to specialize. However, if you get to know some of the professors in the dental school (doesn't hurt to start early), you might get a bone thrown your way. See if anybody needs a lab assistant and get involved. Even if it means just feeding petri dishes or digging up charts. You can always hype it up on your CV even if the work isn't so glamorous; the experience will look good no matter what you do (as a pre-dent). Regardless, do research if your interested, but don't worry about it being a make or break for getting into d-school. Good luck to you 👍...

dental specific research is hard to come by as an undergrad, as wayne said. i know, i've tried it. but it doesn't really matter, any medically-related research should have some relation (biochemical, cell bio, etc.) level to something dental. for instance, orthopedic research and bone growth (relates to prostho/jaw stuff), or microbio research (relates to prevalence of bacteria in oral cavity). you get the picture, just get yourself out there (if you have the genuine interest). best way is to volunteer your services for awhile, then once your foot is in the door, you can ask for more responsibilities or pay.

I wouldreccomend finding research you're intersted in. I did research that I thought would help my application and thesis for 2 years and it was boring and it showed. I never wanted to be in lab and I worked as fast as possible getting results that were good enough to make it to the next step.

I found a new lab and I'm doing my thesis in that lab and I'm very interested in the research. It's amazing how much more you work when you WANT to be there instead of want to be there to make yourself look good.
