My freshman year in undergrad a couple of guys and I decided to do a little prank. We filled a plastic coke bottle with "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner, which contains HCL acid, and Aluminum. We placed it outside someone's room in the dorm. The explosion was much louder than expected. Next thing we knew the police, bomb squad and all, had arrived at the school. To make the story short, I confessed, got fined with a values violation.
There is a question on the Med-school application asking if we had ever been on academic probation etc. I'm not sure I really want to put this on my application or try to explain it.
I was wondering if anyone knew if med-schools ever look up your discipline record from undergraduate, of if you have any suggestions.
Thanks for any insight you can provide.

I would check with your advisor because at our school we have a committee letter and they look at your judicial records (including academic probation, academic dishonesty, behavorial incidents, etc) and will disclose that information to medical schools. I do not know if medical schools get that info on their own, but I would *assume* they have the potential to, thus in my opinion honesty is the best route. Like I said though, I would talk to your advisor and possibly your judicial affairs office and find out if med schools can gain access to that info.

Many schools conduct background checks and the like before accepted students matriculate. They are allowed to revoke your acceptance, kick you out of medschool, or even take away your MD degree if they ever find out you lied about something like this.

On the positive side, many secondaries that I've seen provide you with space to explain any disciplinary actions on your account. As long as you word it well, and explain how you've matured since freshman year, it really shouldn't be too big a problem for you.

Anyways, my advice is to answer honestly.

It ended up not being a big deal.

I would list it just because that story is pretty damn funny...the adcoms might look favorably upon it.
