I have heard that your undergrad reputation as in school as well as lab experience play a big role. I am a junior @ UW-Madison, and I am curious if anyone knows what kind of reputation UW-Madison as a undergrad institution. Also, I work in HHMI lab in the Institute for Molecular Virology...so are there any virologists out there that know what kind of repuation this group has...? I have been told by others in the lab that is one of the best for virology...so does this help in the application process? Thanks. 😎

i agree with newquagmire. most, if not all, of the uw-madison students i met during my interviews seemed to do very well... particularly in the midwest. assuming the rest of your application is solid, you should be just fine.

good luck,
aaron

If you're worried about reputation, UW-Madison will serve you well.

As for research, sure it will help that you work in an HHMI lab because people who interview you can potentially be familiar with your boss's work. However, that's not the be all end all. The most important thing is that you are prepared to discuss your research project thoroughly and intelligently; that scores you big points on the interview. If you can do that, you will look stellar and will do just fine 🙂
