I'm taking a grad course as an ugrad (had to get special
permission). I had to fill out a form through graduate school and they say I will be getting "graduate" credit for it and it won't count in my university ugrad GPA. I am wondering for AMCAS purposes, would this class count in my ugrad GPA? anyone had a similar situation?

PS. I am taking this "grad" course because it was recommended by my PI to collaborate so we can get some results for a potential publication.

they are calculated and listed as separate gpas- grad and undergrad- even if its only one course. so if you ace it, your graduate gpa will be 4.0 👍

also, i just noticed that there is a 'cookie' option for post icons, i dont know why but i had to pick it.

mmm... I'm not entirely sure of this but IIRC, grad courses that you take as a UG count in the UG GPA. I could be wrong but that's what I recall being the rule....

Edit: a quick Google search appears to support me on this. I always suggest Googling before posting questions on SDN: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=amcas+graduate+courses+taken+as+an+undergraduate&l=1

oops, maybe you're right. i just assumed it because it works that way in the opposite situation (UG classes you take during grad school get listed in your UG gpa)

hopefully though it'll be noted differently somehow to highlight the fact that you took it. i think it would look good to adcoms that you took it.

I have searched this topic. I just didn't find any clear answer. I was just looking for someone who did something similar and see how it counted for them on AMCAS.

I did the same thing my senior year. It did count toward my AMCAS gpa, but my institution listed two separate transcripts: undergrad and graduate, each with the respective grades. It wasn't a problem. Your UG separates the two because they count toward different degrees, but since you aren't pursuing the grad degree I'm assuming AMCAS doesn't care if it's listed among UG courses.

Yeah, my ugrad told me it won't count on my ugrad GPA on the transcript. I'm thinking AMCAS would still count this in my AMCAS ugrad GPA.

Yep. Grad courses are courses that are taken while you're a grad student. Everything else counts towards undergrad.

Does anyone know about the reverse case? What if one takes a class such as Biochemistry or Organic Chemistry II as a graduate student? I imagine that course numbers do not mean much, as different schools use different numbering systems. But could those courses be used to meet admissions prerequisites?

They might count ugrad courses taken while you are a grad student as grad courses? I don't know. This is extremely confusing. Wish we could get a clear answer.

I believe they will count it the way you list it...
