Ok, so we can't post lists, but if you log on to the NRMP site and look at My Reports, you can find Regional Statistics by Specialty. It lists the number of unfilled spots per specialty per region. It's something until we find out the actual programs!

Yeah, I matched, but there is this debate over seeing info about unfilled places. I just wanted to give people some data upon which to salivate before the main course is severed. Hopefully, it will be enough so that people won't violate the match and make the unfilled program lists public.

Am I crazy, or does it look like everything is filled up pretty well this year? It doesn't seem like a lot of spots are open in anything categorical at all! Prelim med and surg and FP seem to be about all that is left. I am under the impression that this will be a brutal year to scramble.

yes. this will definitely be a brutal year to scramble.

unfortunately many people will have to settle for prelim spots even if they want gen surg or cat medicine.

programs have made a definite statement. they want to fill even if it means taking img's ahead of US-grad scramblers.

There are a lot of programs with tons of numbers offered, but several reflect zero's in the filled columns, and the total at the end is either zero unfilled or less than the number of positions offered (that went unfilled, according to the chart). For a simple example... medicine-neurology had 1 position offered in the Central Region with 0 filled, and 1 in the Northeast with 0 filled, but in the end it says 2 offered and 0 unfilled. Shouldn't this reflect 2 unfilled? There are many other rows with this type of information (e.g., plastic surgery: 88 positions offered with zero's for fills in all regions, but no unfilled positions in the totals) and I just don't see how accurate this is.

You can't have more unfilled positions than spots offered. It's total offered, not number offered for scramble.

Those zeros are "unfilled" not "filled". 88 positions offered, 0 unfilled. Plastics filled every position and there are no open spots.

I agree that it seems like that's what the programs are doing and thinking - I just don't get it though. If I was head of a community program that didn't care about reputation so much, it seems liike there'd be an advantage to purposely keeping a couple of spots open, so that I could get my choice of all the amazing scramblers out there. Especially if I was in an at least somewhat okay location that people wouldn't mind coming to. What say?

I agree that it seems like that's what the programs are doing and thinking - I just don't get it though. If I was head of a community program that didn't care about reputation so much, it seems liike there'd be an advantage to purposely keeping a couple of spots open, so that I could get my choice of all the amazing scramblers out there. Especially if I was in an at least somewhat okay location that people wouldn't mind coming to. What say?

Another way to look at is that 99.9% of scramblers will miserable where they are and will constantly be looking for a way to transfer or get where they want to be. (And no one can blame the scramblers for being unhappy). An unhappy house staff member can cause ripples for a program so ideally you want someone who will be happy where you are.

On the other hand, if you seriously under-fill, then you will have to either pay moon lighters or have serious difficulty maintaining 80-hr week call schedules. There are IMGs who dont get a spot, and now the unfilled programs will look to them to fill the prelim spots.

What makes you think that they're taking IMGs over AMGs? I would think most scramblers would be IMGs.

Can you help me find that unfilled program especially in transitional, med or surgery prelim spots because I am switching my residency. Need to have a back-up plan. I can't find a way how to find those programs who are unfilled at this point for transitional, medicine or surgery prelim. I am an intern in Ob/gyn. Thank you so much.

Findaresidnet doesn't have all the positions. Not all programs put their open positions there. I already look at findaresident. There is a list for all ob/gyn open positions and findaresident doesn't even have ob/gyn positions. So I don't really "trust" the list on findaresident.
