I recently went to a local PX and purchased everything on the OBLC packing list. The total came to $1059.00 not including the name tags and officer bars. Does anyone know if I need everything on that list? Some of it seems like a little much and if there is anyway I can cut down this bill by a few hundred I'd be thrilled. Do I really need two pair of combat boots? Or 8 pairs of socks for my camos? If anyone can be of any help I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

you'll get a one-time payment of $600 for uniforms to defray some costs. i got my ACUs and boots on eBay, saving probably over $200. you could get by w/o getting 2 pairs of boots. i got a pair suitable for hot weather, and sprayed my boots and uniforms w/ an "anti-wet" coating spray. i don't remember exactly what was on the packing list, but i'd suggest you get the most basic items (e.g. ACUs, name tapes, etc) now, and wait until the training actually starts.

At a minimum I would go with 1 pair of boots and 2 sets of ACUs. You will need the Army service uniform (class B and ClassA/dress Blue) so may as well bite the bullet on that too.

I am purchasing uniforms for an ADT this summer. I have not attended OBLC and will be purchasing mainly off the OBLC list.

Should I be purchasing the ASU for my ADT?

No. Just the ACU (with the button pockets instead of velcro if you can find them - that will be the new ACU) with the patrol cap not the beret. pay the extra money to have the rank sewn onto the patrol cap instead of pinning on the rank.

Thank you.

I will be heading up to the Ft Drum uniform shop the day after my part 2s so hopefully I can find the 'new issue' there.

Once you've got a "nice" set or two (ie 1 or two nice ACU sets, 1 nice pair of boots), I'd buy everything else at a military surplus store. You may want to consider getting your class A/B from there as well to save you even more money.

The general philosophy is that you want to have a couple of nice "garrison" sets of clothes for when you're on post, or in a clinic, and then have a grubby set for the field.

Do you have a link to the list? I'd like to see what's on it now.

The list was just simply acu items, ipfu items and thats about it. Nothing out of the ordinary, just to make sure I didn't miss anything as far as patches, pin ons, etc. They were out of patrol caps at clothing and sales with the recent run on them, but I was able to find one in my size at the brigadeqm store.

I did buy a beret for the future, but it will sit in the bag till next year since it is no longer part of the ACU unless the CO wants you to wear it.

The beret is still part of the Class A/B uniform, but you'll hardly be wearing that. Make sure you get someone to help you shave and form it.

There's no link for the OBLC uniform list?

Did you get a pre-shaped beret? That would make your life so much easier.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'm not even gonna bother touching it since I don't even have an ASU and will be down there for just 3 weeks.

From what looks like a 2008-2009 OBLC powerpoint I received:

will still be issued equipment from the Central Issue Facility but you are not required
to use it if you have your own.

Obviously, it is a bit out of date.

None at uniform and sales and forgot they existed. I will most likely order one at my leisure over the next year before I go to oblc and on to active duty.

Unless the post CO wants us to be wearing black berets with ACUs for this coming July, I won't be wearing it at all. Though I should probably shave and at least sort of shape it before I head out.
