Never wishing anyone to be shot dead…

Probably random killing but ….

People need to know the history of how insurance companies like United healthcare came to be in power

Blue cross blue shield was the original true non profit healthcare back in the 1950s….than for profit healthcare companies came into play with cherry picking healthy patients

Was just coming here to share this. Hard for me to imagine this is not targeted.

You eff people over bad enough (like denying essential care) and it'll come back to you in one way or another.

FWIW UHC has been very good about paying my insane medical bills. Prior authorizations are processed very quickly and have yet to be denied. Maybe my doctors are savvy and know the magic words to get my care covered.

I was gonna buy the dip. But it looks like united stock is up???
Guess we are all replaceable.

Glad this is the case: you're not the average pt and you'll probably get the top of the line care.

On the death of this man, Americans across the political spectrum are united in their feelings. I have never seen more agreement. It's a true miracle.

Seems to be more of a

kind of vibe.

I think we're all also united in the feeling that we don't really want to live in a society where people just get murdered in this way. But on the spectrum of sympathetic victims to unsympathetic victims, he's the sort of guy who pegs the needle to the right.

Him dying this way won't change or fix anything, of course.

Our group's plan is through United Health, and they just denied a medically-indicated (but not urgent) surgery for my wife. It's hard for me to understand, something about the specific CPT code being specifically excluded from our plan. She'll still get it done in a few months anyway because we have secondary insurance (I'm retired military and enrolled in Tricare Select).

Seems a bit weird that in this case Tricare is the superior coverage.

I'm not entirely sure if it's worth having United at all. My youngest kid finishes grad school this year and will get a job (presumably) so at a minimum we can drop the family plan.

I honestly don't know if United is worth having in addition to Tricare, and I've yet to hear a coherent and confident bit of advice from anyone.

This was a targeted hit.

Definitely

Interesting that he had to manually cycle the gun between each shot. With some trouble before the final shot. Suggests loner amateur vs hired pro.

Or a single shot mechanism on the gun.
I doubt it. It looks like a semi-auto that isn't cycling fully with each shot.

This isn't an uncommon problem with suppressed semiauto pistols, out of the box. There exist piston/booster parts that allow normal and reliable function on semi-auto handguns, which aren't necessary on fixed-barrel guns like pistol caliber carbines.

This looks like he didn't use the right parts to install his suppressor.

Or - it's a homemade suppressor that lacked those parts. Which also screams amateur / ordinary guy vs a pro.

I cannot see how this was not a purposeful action.
A suppressed weapon with clear and deliberate shots, with others around but at least 2 rounds at the target.

obviously an amateur to do it in that location, plus he dropped a phone, water bottle, and a candy wrapper.

He’ll be caught soon.

He also stopped at Starbucks and fled the scene on a Citi Bike. He could have killed himself already.

Reddit's WSB take on this is brutal but hilarious:

"Bullish because they probably had a key man life insurance policy on him and his stock options that hadn't vested disappear.

I'm going long on Citi stock, shooter rode off on a Citibike, showing how effective bicycles are in getting around NYC. Whether commuting or making a quick get away, Citibike has you covered"

Did looks like a mob hit. Very similar to Big Paulie outside of Sparks Steahhouse in the city in the 1980s.

He was ready to manually cycle each round like he had practiced but looks like amateur hour and he had a stovepipe as a result

This guy's a bozo on par with the first clown who tried to assassinate Trump. The only difference is he was too close to miss and had a better getaway plan.

Lots of jokes in the hospital today along the line if someone had to get prior authorization to call an ambulance?

There are any number of reasons to hate UHC. My picks are that they own sound, one of the scummiest management companies that doesn’t even pretend to want anesthesiologists around, and their intense lobbying in favor of the no surprises act. Hopefully the industry reflects on how little sympathy this guy is getting.

Oh I don’t think it was a doctor either - hunch would be a disgruntled family member who was denied care, something silly totally unrelated to the business, or some tangentially thinking nut like the second Trump shooter. I just think UHC sucks.

I posted several times before about siding with usap over united healthcare.

I have no doubt they lobbied the Pakistan lady Ivy League ftc to stop usap in Colorado. And United healthcare always fighting with usap in Florida and Texas.

And in central Florida. We have duolopy hospital system always fighting with United healthcare and threatening to go out of network. Like big cat fights

Usap is like the little guy vs United healthcare always fighting. United doesn’t like getting bullied. So were in the ftc lady ears.

My guess just with quick glance it's a B&T station six. Bolt action single shot with integrated suppressor

Doesn’t really gel with how he’s putting it back into battery.

Pretty ballsy move to use an uncommon NFA stamped device in a murder. But he’s obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed.

My money would be on a self drilled “fuel filter kit” or something.

At any rate, cue the we need to ban whatever it is rhetoric…

It was shocking how divergent the mainstream coverage was about people's reactions vs actual people's comments.
It's amazing that people even watch main stream media at all after the election.

I only watch for the objective facts, like the bullet casing said "Deny, Defend, Depose".

I'm not even sure people will find the shooter guilty if they did catch him. In Florida the shooter might invoke the castle doctrine since the shooter might have felt his life was threatened with United Healthcare Insurance in his proximity.

🤷‍♂️

"Good thing there is a gun ban in NY. Imagine if the shooter could get a gun!"

With the Trump assassination attempts and now this, I wonder if we see a move towards higher profile violence by the disturbed malcontents in our society instead of targeting defenseless children in school? Is it the same psychology? I don’t necessarily think so, but maybe. My guess is that society at large is going to be much more sympathetic towards the shooter in this situation rather than the victim.

Does it drive gun enthusiastics crazy how silencers are depicted on TV?

On par with medical shows. 🙂

It's bizarre that they're even regulated in the USA. It's just good manners to reduce the amount of noise guns make.

I doubt the kind of mentally ill people who kill kids would change. I mean they're crazy at their core so thinking they might change course in some other irrational direction seems unlikely. School shooters frequently have grudges and bad memories of their school days. They're lashing out with the intent to cause widespread pain and shock, to pay back some of the hurt they've endured.

This very much feels more politically motivated. Obviously still a big dose of crazy, but not insane.

It's been fascinating to watch the simmering hatred for insurance companies just boil through and come out into the open over the last day.

If this guy were to start bumping off more health insurance execs I think people would found fan clubs and start cosplaying as the guy.

Best me to it: delay, deny, defend…good book

They found a cell phone on the scene, but not sure if it’s his. He cased the escape route and timing, that area of Manhattan is packed with Citi bikes at that time. Probably switched clothes from the backpack in Central Park.

But both types of killers seem to be grievance-motivated. Some larger system wronged them in some way and this is seen as a way of righting those wrongs. Obviously these types of killers have reached a point of no return where they think they have nothing left to lose. Again, thinking about the Trump assassination attempts, it certainly seems like there has been an uptick in higher profile killings or attempted killings. I don’t have data and it’s probably just anecdotal recency bias, but it feels that way. We don’t know this guy’s backstory yet, but the first Trump shooter certainly fit the mold of someone who could have shot up a school. For these killers, a high profile killing is not only a chance to have the notoriety, but potentially a sympathetic tone to their legacy. I don’t know.

I could be wrong (ask my wife) given the huge amount of data and open targeting of the individual it seems to be taking a while to find this guy.
