Hi guys, I became a member of this forum at the end of last year and this place has been very helpful to me in terms of providing valuable information. For example, now I need insightful advices from you guys.

I'm admitted by UGA and SLU with a similar concentration in Behavioral Science and Health Promotion/Education. I've to inform both of them with my final decisions by the end of this month. There seems not enough threads being post to discuss either one of them. Therefore, please share your thoughts, I need some insights.

Thank you so much in advance~~~~~

p.s.

I currently work full-time at a non-profit health organization. My original plan was to work for a year in order to save some money for the graduate school and future. Now, SLU has agreed with my deferral request but UGA's policy makes it impossible. However, if it turns out that UGA is better, then I'm willing to change my plan.

For all intents and purposes, I'd defer and go to SLU. There are no rankings available that currently list UGA (USN is from 2007). If there are certain faculty you'd rather work with at UGA, then it's up to you to figure that out.

to Regression:

Thank you for you opinion. I'm aware of the fact that going to SLU will financially put me in easy circumstances, especially they allow me to defer for a year. Last week, my friend went there to begin studying its MHA/MBA degree. It seems that she likes the city (only western St. Louis.)

On the other hand, UGA has a combined Gerontology Program offered for any MPH student who is interested in dealing with aging population. Besides, isn't UGA older and perhaps with a stronger academic reputation?

*I emailed my professor and he chose UGA.

If you prefer UGA's program, then go for it. It's a great institution.

I'd like to know which one has a better reputation in the field of public health as well as being helpful for the future career?

UGA's program is very new, so you won't find any info as far as rankings go. However, it is a highly regarded institution and I think you'll find the proximity/connections to Atlanta will be helpful in internship or job prospects.

I can't really give any info about SLU. Sorry.

Givern serious thinking about where to go for the program, I'm leaning towards taking UGA's offer.

I had two cdc friends who were really trying to sell me on UGA. I think they get some good cdc people who retire and don't want to live in Atlanta anymore including a mentor of my cdc friends. But family ties aside, the school has a strong regional reputation and it's growing. It's only an hour and a half to Atlanta, CDC, and tons of international public health organizations. That should be a selling point.

I go to uga for undergrad.. And i have nothing but positive things to say. The public health school is new, but is full of great faculty and should crack the rankings in the coming years. Combined with its proximal location to the CDC, and many resources with being a large, public university, it's a great choice.

Also, if money is an issue, the housing in the Athens area is very cheap. Im not too familiar with the St. Louis housing rates, but there are tons of safe, cozy living options for college students.

Not to mention, it's a great college town!

I would definitely consider UGA...

Thank you guys all! I'm going to accept UGA's offer and am looking forward to study MPH in fall.
