Univ. of Minnesota Entering Class of 2009

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Good luck guys!! Anyone else starting to get nervous? I'm probably getting ahead of myself but I'm starting to have a plan set up for next year's application (retaking PCAT, shadowing, more volunteer work, etc.). After seeing other people's stats, I guess I wouldn't be shocked if I was rejected or placed on the waitlist but at least a large portion of waitlisters eventually get in!! :scared: Stressed...

Thanks! Good luck to everyone else too! I am terrified for this interview. Is it group or one on one? I just had a group interview at chicago on weds. wow i ony have a week to prepare for this!

It's one on one. Study the interview feedback!

Just realized my husband got the mail earlier without telling me and found my letter from the U of MN. I am on the unranked waitlist. I am SO disappointed right now, there are no words.

Oh dear, I feel for you. I know you really wanted to go to U of MN because of your family. I'm so very sorry.

You've however made me very nervous, since now I know interview decisions are in the mail!

Thanks medicalcpa. I'm feeling pretty depressed today but I'm sure I'll get over it...someday 🙂. I need your opinions since everyone on this thread knows the U of MN's admissions criteria pretty well. I am also going to sit down with an admissions counselor to see if they can tell me how to strengthen my application for next year. Can you guys also tell me where you think I went wrong/any red flags you see that I might want to fix for next year?

*3.61 overall GPA (I failed an interpersonal comm. class six years ago at a technical college-should I retake it?)
*3.8 science/math GPA (missed an A in Ochem1 by 7/807 pts which my professor wrote about in my LOR)
* ~3.95 GPA over the last 80 credits
*Political club founder/president
*Multicultural Club
*Chemistry Club
*Biology Club
*Phi Theta Kappa
*"Extraordinary Contributor Award" during my work with the developmentally disabled in a group home
*Ron Hunter Organic Chemistry Scholarship
*Minnegasco Science Scholarship
*Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
*Started volunteering in an inpatient pharmacy about two mos ago (after submitting my application).
*71 PCAT with low math/reading subscores
*Not on track for a bachelors degree since I switched undergrad major and am pretty much starting over in a nursing program.

What do you think did me in? I will not have the degree by next year either since I am starting over. I do have 100 credits. Do you guys think I should get a bachelors in something else that I could finish by the end of next year or finish my second choice career option in case I'm not accepted next year? I also applied to Creighton distance since moving isn't an option (my dad is on a heart transplant list in MN). Do you think my stats would fit better or worse with Creighton than the U of MN. Be critical. I really appreciate it.

I just got home and saw I was placed on the unranked waiting list as well. This is not going to be a good week. Good luck to the rest of you and those going to the interview this Friday! Bring your A game!

WTH is taking the mail so long to get to SW Missouri?!? I'm really nervous now, because a lot depends on whether or not the University accepts me.

I do hope you all get in somewhere this year. Believe me, it's a terrible feeling to see something you want very much slip away from you. I wouldn't wish such a thing on my enemy.

You have AWESOME stats. I'd be absolutely shocked if you didn't get in. Want to borrow me one of your bachelors degrees?

If it were possible, sure.

FWIW, I finally got the letter today, and it was a big envelope. I was accepted to the Twin Cities campus. Not going to put my name in the acceptance thread, though.

Congrats medicalcpa!!! You deserve it. I know UMN was your #1 choice, so this must be such a huge weight off your shoulders! I know you will do great there. And why won't you put your name in the acceptance thread? You earned it!🙂

Nah...I put my name on one acceptance thread before. Look how that turned out.

Thank you, and thank you PrePharmD for the congrats. I'm still rooting for the two of you!

You may be surprised that you're not the only one. I saw a good number of Muslims in Minneapolis (more than where I live, anyway), and there was someone wearing a hijabi during my interview session.

by the way, thanks for the response to my PM! 🙂

Nice to meet you Shamidyme! I hope everyone did well on their interviews, and I guess we'll be crossing our fingers for the next month or so! BTW, I was VERY impressed by Minnesota.

I was very impressed with Minnesota today too! It might just be my new number 1!

now...im just hating the wait!!! *sigh*

Pharmtechgirl26 were you there in the morning session? I didnt meet you...

I was there on Friday morning too, and got VERY impressed by the program. Im pretty sure i will be torn if i get accepted to both my state school and UM, since i know UM is way better than my state school, but i may have to choose school based on the cost, and oh well, if i am lucky to have the Dean's nonresident scholarship, then im not sure my family is willing to move to MN where its damn cold like that. Do i sound like ive got accepted already? haha... Minnesota residents, im jealous of you guys since you have such a great school!

I have to say I have mixed feelings about it...My interviewer asked me all the questions that I was expecting..none threw me off..thanks to SDN interview feedbacks 🙂 but Im still nervous. Im afraid to feel positive about it...then it might come back and bite me in the butt! :scared:

I have to say I was really impressed by the school and the program. There are endless opportunities there. but I have to say that I was kinda disappointed by the pharmacy lab..anyone else noticed??

I was slightly disappointed as well by the lab. You have to remember the building is VERY old. Besides that, the program sounds just plain amazing. As far as the interview, I had Dr. Richard Cline, and I think it went well. The questions on the feedback section were asked as well, so I am very grateful for all who posted!

Just be sure to post so you can help others who interview after you. I do not remember the lab very well, but even if it was in a hole in the ground, I would still not mind.

I think it went good...but you never know. My interviewer was Dr. Dunham. Right when I walked in the door he said "I wish I had two hours for this.." I was so nervous. My interview did end up going long so I was the last person to walk into the room for student panel. I hope thats a good thing.

hey, i'm currently a first year at the U of MN.

what specifically was wrong with the labs? just wondering...

I dont think I noticed anything during my interview but I'm curious what you didn't like about it.

no, not that there is anything wrong..it just appeared different than what i had in mind. but that doesnt really matter..its the quality and the knowledge that counts.

how big was the envelope you got? im just really nervous and thinking too much about it :scared:

Did anyone send a "thank you" note to the school after the interview??

I sent a thank-you email to my interviewer. Besides, during my interview i promised to email him a link to an article i'd read, which he was interested to read too.

less than 10 days!!! is anyone nervous too??!!

How did it turn out? What happened?

Yay, I've got an invite to the interview too.
One question for you guys, which campus is better...in terms of closer to the Airport and hotel, etc.
Medicalcpa: May I ask which campus you were interviewed? I just wanna rub some luck off of you 😉
thanks

The Minneapolis campus is closer to the main airport and less than a block away from a radisson hotel.

I'm very excited and anxious to receive my letter in the mail!

I ended up deferring my admission for one year. Personal reason. And I was interviewed at the Twin Cities campus.
