Is this "pool" the same as being on "hold"? Are the chances slim on being accepted from this pool? 3.56 and 35 MCAT. Ditto on swimming with the fishes.

You can check your status page to see if a decision has been made on your application. If so, it means you've either been accepted or rejected and should expect a letter in the mail. If you can't wait for the letter, I believe you can call the school to ask about the decision. Good luck!

Call! If you didn't get the email, then a decision has probably been made and they'll tell you what that is on the phone.... If you're brave. 😀

Absolutely thrilled! I've only had one interview so far (UW), and it's one of my top choices. If I get the chance, I do want to interview at some other places, because I may want to experience life in a different environment, but I am extremely excited -- time to start withdrawing/cancelling some other interviews!

You are the first person I have heard of being accepted to the UWSOM (and I've heard from quite a few people)!!

Does anyone of you, who put in this pool after the first EXCOM meeting, get accepted?

The answer is that all applications still in the pool are examined at each meeting. I was put in the pool after the first meeting, and recovered the next. I am currently an MS-1. And it DOES matter to a certain extent when you apply. If there are a certain number of acceptances at each meeting, that means there are fewer at the end. So there are fewer positions and lots of open files. So I think it is better to get the application in as early as possible.

The pool is more like an "open file," in that nothing has been decided. It's not a wait list, it's just limbo. The reason for this is that they want all applications to be seen before the class closes. And your GPA and MCAT are great. UW is not looking at just the numbers. If that were true, the interview wouldn't be worth 50%. 😉

I see. That assuages my fears a teeny bit. Thanks for the help, man. Do you think it would be appropriate at this juncture to send in a letter of intent and maybe a letter to my committee advocate/main interviewer person?

No, I've had this on my status pages since my application was complete, and it has remained through my interview and the post-interview competitive pool. I don't know if they actually ever change the status page.

Maybe someone who been rejected/accepted (almost_there) could let us know if his/her status page ever changed after being accepted.

It'll say "a decision has been made" or something along those lines. a few days later you'll get the envelope with the verdict in the mail. chubby envelope is good!

On my application status page:

"Action was taken on your application 11/18/2005. You should receive a letter from our office by 11/25/2005."

I had this since I checked on Tuesday (EXCOM meeting was the previous Friday)

Hey I just called UW. They didnt meet on Nov 2nd. They decided not to. They are instead going ahead and just meeting on the regularly scheduled EXCOM date on the 9th. Here is to good luck!

Me, too. I rushed to school this morning to check my status page and after seeing the status didn't change, I was so disappointed. I planned to ask if anyone's status page changed, I received the message that NO EXECUTIVE MEETING LAST FRIDAY. Hopefully they stick to their schedule this time. Please don't play any joke on us, we already tired of waiting.

I am from Idaho and I am interviewing in February. I thought that this was really late and discouraged until I saw that schedule 👍 Now I feel a ton better. Are you an Idaho applicant?
