Hey for the rest of us waiting on UW, how many have acceptances elsewhere?

so the excom for today is canceled?

:luck:

Hi,
So I'm constantly watching this thread, but haven't posted on it yet. The UW is by far my first choice, and this pool is killing me. I've gotten in elsewhere, MUO and Meharry, and am at the point where I really just want to know. If I'm not in it'd be nice to get excited about where I am going. So next week are the final meetings, does that mean we should all hear something next week? Good Luck everyone, either way.

Hey guys,
Same for me about constantly watching this thread and not posting on it yet. I just got put in the competitive pool on Wednesday. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about what happens to OOS applicants next week...do we just get either accepted or rejected, or is there a possibility to be put on the waitlist? I couldn't tell if the waitlists were only for WWAMI applicants or not. Any info at all would be greatly appreciated!! Good luck everyone! 🙂

sparkysgirl--
Also, when I interviewed, we were told during lunch that the committee would make all final decisions next week (acceptance, rejection, waitlist) and our status would change online probably on the 28th (giving them Monday to put everything into the computer). She said that there were still "quite a few" spots left in the class...so that's hopeful at least!

Let the madness begin.

U of W, does this school take out of state applicants? And also, how is this school a top ten? I barely have heard of it. None of its other graduate programs are that good....I am amazed that this school sort of flew under my radar even though it is so prestigious, top ten according to US news. Amazing how this school is ranked OVER Stanford, Yale, Cornell, etc...Anyone care to comment? Is this school overrated? I mean, better than Stanford?!?!

Just don't apply to this "overrated" school. I can guarantee you won't be hurting any of our feelings.

mbadoc

you are very full of yourself. remember to wipe your butt on your way out of this thread.

cheers

It all depends on what you are looking for, but its certainly a solid program in almost every respect. Your statement about its graduate programs is misinformed: UW is widely respected as one of the leading research institutions in the country.

Now....

Back to the topic.......

Did anyone's status change yesterday or today?

In other news, anyone heard anything this morning? Someone told me decisions would be posted today and tomorrow, as well as next week, of course mine hasn't changed.

nope. Do you think they are going to change it for some people after each meeting, or just hold it all for monday?

I hope they are holding for monday....I am going to call right now and ask....

thanks, I never have the nerve to do that sort of thing

Ok, they are waiting until Monday to post the results of this week's meetings.

Oh great. What a way to spend spring break now. :-\

Tell me about it! I'm going to Puerto Vallarta this saturday, for a week! Does anyone know if a prepaid phone card bought here will work from mexico?

i wish the final status change would be reflected online, rather than the uninformative "your status has changed." at this point, it's like, DUH!

It will not unless it has an Mexico access number. You could try to find a card online, but it would probably be easier just to buy one when you are down there. Have fun. I am off to Guatemala for 11 weeks 🙂

Is is just me or is this is going to be a long, long weekend?

Yup! It's going to be a long weekend with everyone asking if we've heard yet. So, are they going to wait to mail out the letters until the end or just wait to change the status page? I'm asking simply because a friend got an acceptance last year on the saturday after the final meetings and I wanted to no if I should be nervously staring at my mailbox. 😀 Oh well. Good luck everyone with lasting the weekend and getting our results! :luck:

Yeah, no kidding. Mid-filling at the dentist yesterday the dentist asked if I'd heard yet. There's a baby shower for a friend with 30+ people on saturday and they'll all be asking. I want to make a t-shirt that says "don't ask me until monday".

Oh, and it stinks because my husband has an interview for his DREAM job on wednesday--which he will cancel if the news on monday is not so good because we'll be off to Ohio.

I'm a nursing ma, so I won't be partaking, but here are my recommendations for Monday (and what I'm buying for the family and friends waiting with me)=>
Champagne (acceptance--duh)
Merlot (waitlist--the ultimate waiting wine)
Tequila (rejection--I hate even typing the word!)

Good luck all!!!!!!

I know one thing for sure.... I will know by Monday what happens with my life!

I hear you! At this point, I feel like Monday will be a celebration no matter what result I get--I'll finally know what school I am going to come fall and can start planning for it with my S.O.

I'm also OOS and got put on the waitlist back in January...did you (or anyone else) figure out what happens to us next week? Getting a look from UW was so random that I keep forgetting it's still out there...

one more question from a UW longshot... i hadn't checked my status page since jan. -- does everyone's say "your application is complete" until you get the "your status has changed" message?

if my interview up there was any indication they chained my file to a cinder block and threw it into the pacific shortly after i left... brutal. thanks guys

I feel the same about my interview. But in regards to the app status, that is all you see (app complete) until they make a decision, or so I've heard since mine's never changed.

Good luck to everyone who is waiting over the weekend!!!! If this helps anyone, I also had a very brutal interview experience. I felt like I was defending my life the whole time (which was early in the morning). I was able to hold it together until I left the school after lunch, and actually started crying as I walked to my car. My interview was in October, and I obsessed about all of the things that I did wrong in the interview, and whether or not I should write a LOI. I was accepted in Feb. Hang in there a little longer. And again, GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Hey guys, I made it to Mexico and just discovered wireless internet in my room (i think it's being charged to the room upstairs...sweet!) I'm sitting in a oceanview room in puerto Vallarta, but I just woke up from the worst night of sleep EVER! I dreamt that I got accepted to University of Chicago (dunno why this was in my dream, I got rejected from my Alma Mater in October) and then in the dream I realized I was dreaming, and woke up in the dream (but was still really dreaming in real life) and said, "aw man that was just a dream." But then I did get accepted to Uchicago (now in my second layer of dream) but then I REALLY woke up, and said, crap! I proceded to wake up every hour or so and tell myself, "just a few hours more and i can find out about UW." I woke up at 8 (puerto vallarta is on central time) and thought to myself "UGH at least 2 more hours" but then it suddenly dawned on me that I it was sunday, not monday!!

I'm usually such a sound sleeper, hope tonight won't be as bad! I'm supposed to be on vacation, for god's sakes!

good luck everyone, and i'll have a margarita for all of you. Cheers.

24 hours to go... Anybody actually think they will gt much sleep tonight?

Maybe some of you can relate, but I think the waiting game is harder on my wife than me. She is a huge gardening freak, and loves to work in the yard, and just can't motivated to get started this year until she finds out where we will be living this summer.

Good luck to all.

I got my decision last week and I'm also getting nervous for tomorrow!

Just warning you that one of the people who tells you the admissions decision on the phone likes to draw it out.

Administrator: "What's your favorite drink?"
Me: "Uhmm...alcohol or non-alcoholic?" (What's running through my head: If I tell her an alcoholic drink will she think I'm a lush? If I go with my favorite coctail would I sound like a desperate barfly? If I say champagne, and it's not a good outcome, how awkward would that be?? But if I say a non-alcoholic drink, will it sound like I don't know how to have fun?"[<----Nothing against people who don't drink alcohol, this is just how crazy my mind was as I was trying to find an answer!]
Administrator: "Either one"
Me: "uhmmm....I guess a nice Sangiovese from Napa" (What's running through my head: I can't believe you said that tito, now you sound like a pretentious Californian who pretends to know everything about wine to impress people)
Administrator: "Well.....[very pregnant pause] YOU SHOULD GO BUY YOURSELF SOME SANGIOVESE TONIGHT AND CELEBRATE, YOU'VE BEEN ACCEPTED. CONGRATULATIONS." (I kid you not about the caps, I felt like I was on a game show"
Me: "Wow...uhmmm...I don't need to buy it, I own some" (What's running through my head: Idiot! Can't you think of something better to say?? Like, Thank you, perhaps. Now, you really sound like a pretentious Californian!)

I eventually got sane enough to answer coherently with socially acceptable comments, but it took a while!!

GOOD LUCK!!

Is the admission's office going to be willing to tell us all our status tomorrow? There's going to be a lot of us calling. I absolutely hate this, I had trouble sleeping Friday night, tonight is going to be a whole bunch of fun.

I don't know but when I called the woman sounded like she gave decisions over the phone pretty often. She specifically said, "these are my favorite types of calls". But you're right, there are a lot of decisions going out. The letters arrive quickly, though. I'm in CA and I got my letter Mon after a Wed eve decision.

Monday is going to be very interesting for me. I have a crazy biochem midterm on glycolysis/tca/electron transport chain/lots of cascades from 7am-9am. Then I leave and call UW.

It could either be a great day or a really, really sh*tty one. Haha

They are going to be flooded with all of us calling tomorrow morning. I'm almost afraid to call in case I get that one secretary who is at her wits end after a morning full of application status calls. And will they tell us over the phone if we have been rejected? Or, in a case like that, will they switch over to the "your decision has been mailed to you" mode?

Just thinking about it is tying my stomach up in knots. Good luck to everyone!

Well, I have little sympathy in this instance. They could either put the decision online instead of just saying "a decision has been made" (how much harder would that have been, really?) or they could send an e-mail like a lot of other schools.

Haha! When I called I had to talk to 3 different people in the office before I got through to someone and then it took her quite a while to look up my file and FINALLY she says, "well... it looks like you got in..." No excitement or anything and she was REALLY VAGUE. So I was excited but was thinking the whole time, "what if I didn't get in, since she said 'it looks like.'" LOL.
