Can a someone--preferably a 2nd or 3rd year Buffalo Dental student--give me a breakdown of the tuition costs at Buffalo?

Can you provide the costs for the following items:
-Apartment rent (approximately)
-Tuition
-University fees
-Supplies
-Other costs

I know this is a lot, but I really would like to know these details before I schedule an interview there; cost is a significant factor in your education. 😛

I've heard that after your first year, you can change your status to an in-state resident? If true, how hard is it to do this?

You can find the cost information at this link:

http://www.sdm.buffalo.edu/programs/dds/EstExpenses.pdf

The link is for 2006-2007. It is unlikely that the costs will rise more than a percent or two for 2007-2008.

And yes, you are able to become a state resident and pay in-state tuition for years 2, 3, and 4.

Good luck.

Geez, I saw the ~$14,500 tuition for in-state students and I got all excited. However, UB tacks on all these other fees and the total comes to about $42,000!! For an out-of-state student, it would be much more (around $58,000!) 😱

$42,000 is quite steep for in-state costs. Then again, dental school is just ridiculously expensive (except if you go to d-school in Texas)

My interview = canceled

ncalcate: So you're an in-state student, I'm assuming. You pay around $40,000 for your d-school costs at UB?

Anyways, thanks for the link/info.

Compared to most other schools in the Northeast, Buffalo is a real bargain. So if you want to go to school in the Northeast and not go into $300,000 of debt, Buffalo, as well as UConn and Stonybrook, are great options. But if you can go elsewhere (like Texas) and pay even less, then I can see why you would want to do that.

And yes, I'm a second year in-state student and my total expenses this year (tuition, fees, supplies, housing, food, insurance, etc.) are on track to run about $40,000.

Good luck.
