Hey guys with the next cycle approaching in a couple months I wanted some advice on back up plans after submitting applications.
Is there a difference between enrolling in as an extension student to take upper division science courses at a university vs. applying to an SMP / Post bacc program? My biggest worries are time (not all SMP are one year and extension allows me to pick the courses and I can enroll fo however long is needed), and cost (SMP / post bacc cost a ridiculous amount compared to some university extensions $200-400 per unit).

Apppreciate the input.

This really depends on what school you take the extension courses at and whether or not the courses are on campus or online. As long as the course is on-campus and is time limited i.e semester or quarter based, there will not be a major issue. Self paced courses are not advisable. -Admissionstomedicine

I was planning on taking them at the California Universities and I think most of them allow me to take the courses as if I'm an undergraduate but my gpa and grades are all kept on a separate 'extension' student transcript. Thanks for the reply!

I took a few of the prereqs at CSULB and Csuf under the Open University program. If you only need a few classes id say it's a great way to go

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping to use it as an academic enhancer rather than for taking pre-reqs. Does anyone know the benefits or advantage of being in a SMP/post bacc over taking the same type of courses at a university? Is it just like brand name for being in a smp/post bacc program?
