Hi everyone,
How did everyone do in the interview today? I think the interview was not hard, my interviewers were so nice. All they asked me were about the supp questions. Nice!!! For my opinion, this school is okay, but the town is so boring.
What do you guys think?
Nice to see all of you in the interview🙂

Yeah..I loved the school, their 2 years 10 months program and everyone there was so NICE. I got 3 people interviewing me and they don't ask supplemental questions, all scenarios questions but it wasn't bad at all. Anyway, I am keeping my fingers crossed for the time being. They say we will hear from them in about 3 weeks so it's either be a great christmas present or not...Yeah..talking about culture shock..man that place was something!

Hey guys..
I had the interview this past saturday...
I think it went pretty well...
We had breakfast when we got there
Then, group 1 (split up into 6 panels/subgroups) went in for their interview while group 2 sat and listened to the dean, asst dean, and mrs. keene talk.. had a writing sample and an individual file review.. then we all had lunch together.. and then groups 1 and 2 switched...

we got outta there around 3:00-3:30ish?

The town is tiny... with the closest walmart being 30 mins...hahaha
the school itself is nice.. there really is NOTHING to do there..

good luck for those interviewing on the 16th~~

btw.. LaoSaint, Ceruleansky & Sunflower2008~ this is the girl who u first met @ Bellacino's on friday night... from Texas Tech~ 🙂
Lets keep in touch~~

Hi, I know you, u got home early than us. I just got home from the airport. Woo, you really like the school huh? well, I waiting for LaoSaint to say something about the school. 😀
Nice to meeting you guys. I couldn't have fun without you guys. You guys are awesome! good luck on the pharmacy school. I mean, any school:luck:

Oh guys..I am still recovering from the trip...I have tons to say...but I am trying to forget the trip asap!!!...So different there!!!!..Let me recover mentally and physically from that "arduous interview journey." I will most definately post about the whole trip and interview, that's for sure..BUT one thing I will post right now is that I MISS ALL OF YOU GUYS!!!! Ceruleansky & Sunflower2008, Nick, Memphis, LING!!, YEN, Passion2bpharmd!! I am so glad we were able to meet face to face!!! I owe alot to SDN for making it possible for us to meet!! Let's just say that we had an awesome group and I would have NEVER ever survived out there without the company you guys!!!!

Positives about the University of Appalachia...
Faculty- All of the falculty professors, Dean and students there were also VERY NICE. They really make en effort to make you feel welcome and comfortable there. With all the nice professors, students, and a great Dean, going to school at the University of Appalachia will be a great atmosphere...that's for sure!!

I totally agree, I also think the local people are very nice and friendly. When we got lost in the scary mountain road at night, we stopped and ask direction several times, and local people showing us the direction very detailly. They seems a little bit surpise to see so many outsiders. I can tell that the local Appalachians are working very hard to make the town, the school (law and pharmacy) to be successed. That's definity the good side.
ok, what's next?

Men....the experience was out of this world. I got depressed as soon as I saw the location of the school. There is nothing to do there!!!! The nearest movie theatre is about an hour away. I felt claustrophobic...... like the mountains were caving down on me!!!!
I mean, I've visited "third world" countries that are more developed than the area. On a more positive note, the locals are one of the nicest people I've ever met.
Also the faculty, students and interviwees made the trip worthwile.
So, can I get a head count of people that will attend the school if accepted.

Anyway, that area is so cool!! I am from South Florida, and am in Raleigh now. But Asheville, Boone, is so nice.

Well, some parts of Florida around Lake Okeechobee have not changed much at all. The towns around the lake are the same.

This type of remoteness can not be found in many places. But in other countries, like China, outside of the big cities, are the rural areas that are the same way as in the 1940s

And it is even more so that way.

Well, you certainly did get a dose of University of APPALACHIA.

Real appalachia, that is!!!!!

But in other countries, like China, outside of the big cities, are the rural areas that are the same way as in the 1940s

!!!
Have u been to China recently? China changed a lot during the past 10 years. Chinese government paid so much attention and fund to the west area development. From economically and politically, some rural area in China are much better than people expected.
I think some people need to do more research before they speak in public.

China has definately changed over the years. If you have not physically been to China then please refrain from using China as an example to describe the Appalachia Area. Like Sunflower mentioned above, you should really do some research on China before you speak of China's rural area. It's definately more advanced than the Appalachian Region thats for sure! Why? Because I've actually been to both China and the Appalachia area, so I can speak on it with confidence!

Well, I was not aware of that! THat is good if the rural area is now being developed. I just heard from some people that it was very different in the rural area than in the cities, and some people just did not get the same opportunities as the people in the city. But it is good if that has changed. I have just heard about the rapid expansion of the major cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, etc.

Maybe we could learn from that and do the same thing in the US like in the Appalachian region or some other areas.

Hi to all the guys who made it to the interview on the 2nd, especially the guys whole carpooled together with me at the TRI airport, Laosaint, Wynn, sunflower2008 and others. Iam preparing for my finals exams, and i make a formal post after that.I think the staff and faculty are very dedicated and are really working hard to get the school accredited, the students were very enthusuastic. Some of the doubt I had was whether the students were getting any lab experience, this is because the compounding lab was just opened according to a student who took me on a tour, and I did not really see any pharmaceutical company in the area that student can get hands experience.

In terms of lab experience, the student who provided tour to me told me that they had lab experience at other campus. But, I think the lab in new building is not even enough. I heard from my friend who is attending Howard pharmacy shcool that the reason behind probation status of howard university is the lack of adequate lab equipment and resources. It seems like Appalachia is on the risk.

I'm finally back home..what a whirlwind weekend of travel!

It was really great being able to meet all you SDN folks (not sure if you guys remember me, but it's Han!). I remember we had some down time waiting for the interview, and I started asking, "SDN, anyone?" People looked at me kinda funny, but hey, it's their loss not knowing about it. 😛 (don't worry, I did advertise for the site!!)

The school is not as bad as I originally thought, which is surprising considering I'm from CA. I'll wait until LaoSaint posts his review of the school, then I'll add my two cents. It really is in a beautiful area (esp if you stick to the main roads and do not drive at night), and the people there are super friendly.

Hi Memphis. 🙂 Good luck on your exams!

I did not really see any pharmaceutical company in the area that student can get hands experience.

It doesn't matter if a pharmaceutical company is anywhere near your school. Heck, Mylan Pharmaceuticals is right across the street from my school and we don't use them for any educational purpose at all. Unless you want to get a PhD in pharmaceutics, I wouldn't worry about it.

!

Hi, Ceruleansky, welcome back, we miss u toooooo.
Give Dec.16th interviewees some tips, if you guys want drive, form a carpool. otherwise call a limo, after the whole trip, I was thinking, if I have to drive by myself cross that roller coaster mountain road, I probably just head back to the airport and waiting for my return flight. 😳
also, it's not that cold out there and don't forget to bring a camera. u definitely gonna see some view that u never saw in the west coast🙄
Good luck folks....

Hi Han,
I do remember you because u and me have the same last name🙂 . It is very nice to talk with you during the waiting time in the morning.....

Good luck for the Final exams everyone.
Hope to see you guys again.

i'm the last person from the group to post a reply. if you're going to the interview on dec 16th and lived in the west coast or are use to big cities, you're in for a surprise. the road that you take to get there, damn, is all i can say. plan to go early, preferably get there around noonish, so that driving to grundy comfort inn (the hotel) would be safe for you. there are so much twist and turn, and the road signs is not helpful. i don't know how many times i thought the sign tells you to exit but you're suppose to go straight. The best way to get there from tri city is take 81 N, then 19 W, then 460 S. check direction twice before leaving.

hey what's up crosby, i see that this is your first post. That is you right? did you get the picture that we took at the school? if you don't have it, pm me with your email addy and i'll send it to you. From the picture, we all looked as if though we were long time friends. It's crazy that we all didn't even knew each other before coming to Appalachia. keep us posted on your status for pharmacy school and i wish you and your family the best luck.

Hey, Nicktr23 thanks for getting in touch I will pm you for the pix, Han, has you and your sister recoverd from the trip yet?

Memphis, I'm HAN, not LIN hahahah. I'm the one who didn't come with a sister. We were on the same flight on Sunday. You forgot me already, eh? *sad* 🙁

Hi Ceruleansky, sorry for the mix up, you know Iam still trying to recover from the trip. Anyway how was your interview at Mercer?

hey guys, i have an interview on the 16th...do u guys have any tips or pointers about the interview questions or the whole process as a whole? There is not that much on the interview feedback for this school....any help would be appreciated thanks 🙂

today's the day they review our files, guys!! We should hear from them soon...Good luck to everyone =)

I just got my acceptance email to the University of Appalachia School of Pharmacy! 😀

Syke! Jk! They are still in the review process..Good luck to everybody! LoL

you punk, Lao Saint! *shakes fist*

I remember Vickie mentioned how they will mail out decision letters 2-3 days after they meet...so definitely within the week or two. Yikes!

Hello everyone!
My name is Kynsi and I am a current P1 at UACP. I know just how you guys feel after seeing Grundy/ Oakwood for the first time. Don't worry though. We still manage to have a good time. LBH (little big horn) is a bar that we go to which has kareoke every thursday. We also play kickball, basketball and other sports after school in the fall and I'm guessing the spring. I've gotten very good at ordering my clothes online, lol. Johnson City, TN and Bluefield, WV are not that far away and Bluefield has a Sam's club. Johnson City has sushi, the one thing I really miss down here. And, not to scare you, but I wouldn't really worry about not having a lot of places to go out to because I guarentee you will spend most of your time studying. The road is not that bad!!! I drive it everyday in my Civic and I feel like I'm on a test course. Plus the cops don't bother you so I rarely go slower than 65! Having such a small class in such a small area is really great. We all know each other and hang out. Being in a remote area makes us a stronger class. I really hope you seriously consider UACP and email me with any questions.

Wow...using Bluefield as an example of a major town. Charleston is a major town and not THAT far away. I'm not sure what the closest major CITY is. I'd imagine Columbus, Pittsburgh, and WASH D.C. are all of similar distance.

Don't let the smog breathers get ya down, Appalachia. They don't know how lucky they will be if they get accepted.

Hi, folks, hope you all do well on the finals and all the hard study paid off🙂
btw, congratulation to those people who were accepted?! hehe😀 you just can't wait to go there, don't you?
All right, done with my short break, go back to study😛

Hey guys, I had a question...what did u guys answer for question 12 on the supplemental application? I do not even know if i want to work in a rural area or not...Should I just put I am not sure, I will work wherever i live? please help. thanks

I got the rejection letter today. It's funny that I'm not even upset over it but I guess it's because I been having a change of heart lately. I don't think I want to pursue a pharm.D degree any more. I'm about to graduate from school in may with a BS degree and I hopefully I can find another field I like and have the drive to succeed in it. As for pharmacy I gotten tired of the whole applying thing and I have to retake the pcat if I want to apply next year and I'm not willing to. Well...I'm out of the run so best of luck to the remaining candidates. Have a merry christmas guys.

Hey Blue-Ice,

Did you also interview December 2nd? I'm sorry to hear about your rejection letter. Just don't lose faith and congratulations on your degree! Things happens for a reason in life and im sure that you will prosper in whatever you pursue in life. Have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!

hey blue-ice, sorry to hear that you were denied admission. don't let the news discourage you from applying again next year. did you applied to any other school? i asked because i applied across the states, so just apply. if one school doesn't take you, another will see your potential. i live in cali and snail mail is just taking its time to deliver my good/bad news. anyhow, good luck with your endeavor, and i know you will do well in watever career path you choose.

Did Anybody else hear back from the University of Appalachia regarding their status after the December 2nd interview?

WVU, hilarious. I'd like to add my own comments about SW VA... but Blacksburg is the farthest I'd venture.go hokies ...I've got quite a few classmates from down thur, and I've heard stories. Not all negative, but I know where I do NOT want to be a minority. Richmond has been hard enough. (Hey speaking of which, I was born in Louisville/Loovul) Please keep edumacating the out-of-state students because "2 years 10 months" is a long time to live in a place that doesn't fit.

I called Ms. Keene today and she said the decision letter will be mailed out tomorrow. So we should know by the end of this week. If you guys get accepted are you gonna go?

hey, Omoge, have you forgotten how long it took them to post the agenda for the december 2nd interview on online after they said "it will be posted tomorrow"? if my guess is right, it probably took more than a week. Anyway I talked to Vickie on monday and she said the committee couldn't meet on the 11th, because a lot of the faculty were conducting end of semester exams. Also dont forget they just had another interview on the 16th and they will probably wait and review them together.

aww, that sucks. I guess we won't hear from them until AFTER the holidays? :-(

Ehh..just hang in there..we all know your acceptance letter is on its' way. Don't stress! I know for sure you got in! If I got in and you didn't then I will give up my spot for you. So you're in eitherway!! So breathe relax and I'll talk to you tonight..hehe 😉

even if there's no dave & busters?

Yea they have pepperoni rolls at the Italian Village in Grundy. Anyway this is my first post, my name is Samir and its nice to meet everyone.🙂
