University of Apalachia , after the interview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well, I guess my post have caused so much trouble. Kynsik and Pillstalivin, I am sorry to hurt you guys feeling about the school that you are enrolled. I just tried to clarify the things that I did not understand. The school did not give me clear answer about Accredation at the interview even though I asked several times. I think it is absolutely natural to be frustrated for me at this point. I guess you two went through same stage. That's why I came up with the previously posted issues that might cause trouble in the future and share with other people and current student. This is my second year applying to pharm. D Program. I visited more than 8 schools including new school but honestly I have never seen any school like UACP.
These questions are the ones that I want to know. If I am clear with these questions, I think I can decide what to do.
Are you two sure that school will gain pre-candidate status on april? Is the lack of the Dean the only reason for Cautionary Status?

Daytripper,
Were you a student at UACP?

Hello, apple84
Congrat. on your acceptance!!I am sooooooo proud of you!! I went to Dec.2nd interview. I should have changed interview date so that I could have been there with you. I got rejected soon. I called Vickie about the reason for my rejection but she did not tell me. I was little mad. It seems like you are little worried about their status. Don't worry about it too much. I don't think the school is in serious situation according to my visit. It is just smaller and different than other institution. I think the school seems smaller because the pharmacy school is there by itself. Other pharmacy schools are usually with other professional buildings so it looks bigger and more fancy. As you were, I was little shocked by surrounding areas but it is just because we are from different place.
It semms like your phone number was changed. Well, contact me if you can.
Good luck.

kynsik, I have no ulterior motives. I am no longer affiliated with this program and have other opportunities that far exceed anything GRUNDY could offer. I could care less whether the school succeeds or not. I was simply providing an inside look at the operations of the school. And just for clarification the dean situation is not the only issue that has been presented to the ACPE regarding UACP. There are several other questions for the faculty that will need to be answered and you may be able to speak with some of your "returning" classmates regarding this. I will be happy to answer any other questions pertaining to the school, so send them my way.

Sorry it's been so long since I last posted. I just got back from my New Years trip. First off, Oh Hell No. What happened in this room? Kynsi Thank You for holding up the fort while I was gone. And Daytripper- Thank you as well for your post. I am so glad that you are no longer affliated with this program and congratulations on your other opportunities. UACP is in a small town and it can offer alot to those who are familiar with the small towns and surroundings. I apologize if it did not meet the expectations from those who are from Big Cities. Now Like I've said before, WE ALL KNEW about the accredation status when applying, so why trip out and talk so negative about UACP. Why didn't you think about it before applying or filling out the 1 hour or so supplemental? Why didn't it cross your mind to not apply? You still went ahead and sent in the application. Now that you are accepted/rejected you speak negatively about the school and I think that it's double standards.

I got an acceptance letter last week but my family are so worried about their status right now. (This is the only school accepts me) My dad knows much about all the accredation stuff because he is a pharmacist. After visiting school on Dec. 16, he said school doesn't even have adequate materials such as lab, software, computer for Pharm. D education. This also might cause another Accredation problem later. Also, there is no enough faculty compare to the number of student. Actually, Howard was placed on probation because of this matter even though it is corrected now.

Congratulations on your acceptance and if I were you I would do yourself and your family a favor and reject the offer and give it to someone who's optimistic. Since your father is a pharmacist and seems to know alot about the accedation, I'm sure he can point you to another pharmacy school. I'm also surprised he allowed you to apply in the first place. Apple how old are you by the way? If I were you I would make the decision myself and not worry so much about what others think. I'm certain that we are all adults and mature enough to make our own decisions. Best of luck on your decision or fathers decision!

Most pharmacists know jack about accredidation because prior to the last few years, there were very few new schools popping up everywhere and knowing about it was pointless.

The program has pre-candidate status.....it has held that status since prior to the first students entering the program in 2005. They are attempting to gain "Candidate" status.

ACPE likely requires that a permanent Dean be in place at a program before they make the judgment that a program can go from pre-candidate to candidate or even candidate to full accreditation.

Are you two sure that school will gain pre-candidate status on april? Is the lack of the Dean the only reason for Cautionary Status?

Daytripper,
Were you a student at UACP?

A quick search of the forum will indicate if/when daytripper was a student at the school. It might also indicate what type of student the individual was while attending pharmacy school.

I totally agree with you. I mean, sure his dad is a pharmacist, but I work with 8 different pharmacists and they have assured me that they think the school will get accredited. So most pharmacist really don't know anything about accreditation. However, they are nit-picky. That's just one of the traits of being a pharmacist. Sure I also noticed some things the school can improve on, but they are working on it because they know it also. The school is legit, and just because Hawaii didn't get accredited, doesn't mean that UACP won't either. Like LaoSaint says, you guys are just used to big city colleges. Which is fine, if that's what you're looking for. This place has a perfect program b/c it is out in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do, and all you can do is study. But as far as accreditation, they are very hard working and will get out the kinks out b4 the visit in the spring. The 2007 class is actually really luck, b/c once candidate status is acheived, the class only really pays for 1 semester b4 federal financial aid is available (hopefully).

You said you were surprised my dad allowed me to apply UACP in the first place. I applied 10 schools this year so far this is the only school that acccepts me. Also, it is my second year applying so both me and my parents are so desperate for me to go to pharmacy school this year. That is why I tried to straight things up by asking other people. Is that a problem? There is not rule to post only optimistic opinion on this forum!! Also, I don't think my questions have negative motive!! I might come up with the negative issue but this really is the issue that everyone is worrying about.

Hey~
Long time no see. I just tried to send private message but it was returned. I moved to Fairfax in VA about 5 month ago and my number was changed. I didn't know you were invited at UACP. But, I heard you are accepted to Midwestern? Congratulation. I am the one who is very proud of you.
Why don't you try to send private message to me? I am not sure what happened to my mail. Do you have email address that I can contact?
It's good to talk to you again😀

I don't want to sound mean, but if you applied to 10 schools and this is your second year applying, I think UACP is going to be your one shot to go to pharmacy school. Either that or go back, retake the PCAT, and retake classes to improve your GPA while working in a pharmacy for more experience and reapply next year. These are the tough choices in life. You can worry about the issue as much as you want and I'm glad that you bring up these issues, but no one is targeting you in this room, they're just saying what everyone else reading is thinking, either accept the offer or give it to someone else that really wants it.
Kynsi

hey guys,

I took the liberty of calling the accrediting committee about this school since I also had some questions of my own. They didn't "guarantee" that UACP will attain accreditation, but they seemed hopeful. The lady I spoke with pretty much says that they are in regulations of everything and they are scheduled for a visit in June, hence we will find out by mid July, and maybe before then if the school lets us know, that they have Candidate status or not. So anyone who seems doubtful or has any questions here is the # 312-664-3575, press 2 please! They satisfied all the questions I had for them, and I am confident they will receive accreditation. Besides the Hawaii school, there has never been another school in the last 30-40 years that has been rejected of Candidate status after approval for Precandidate status. She said only in the most unusual circumstances. But UACP faculty is working very hard, and they are very honest people, so I believe in them. If you guys have any ??s about my conversation with the committee, feel free to pm me, or call yourself, they were very nice and accommadating.

Pologirl! You are the best! I admire you for taking the initiative to call and ask questions with the right people! And I highly suggest those who are wishy washy to call the number above to answer any of their "non-optimistic" opinions. There's not a better feeling than to consult and get answers from the accredation board itself! SO Call!

Thanks Pologirl...hearing that has eased my fears =)

Btw, i haven't sent in my deposit yet..and post offices are closed today. Oy! 😱

hey guys,

The lady I spoke with pretty much says that they are in regulations of everything and they are scheduled for a visit in June, hence we will find out by mid July, and maybe before then if the school lets us know, .

Are they visiting in June? I thought they will visiting on April 2007 or something... anyway, thanks for your call, pologirl, I am sure it clear up some rumor about the accreditation problem.
For those people who are not so optimism about the accreditation status, I had a solution, since you will hear the ACPE's decision either by April or July which both before you matriculation. then you can decide whether attend or not. The only problem is you lost 1,000 deposit, just think this way, you made 1,000 donation for the school, for the small town which will give them more fund to buy equipment to accelerate the accreditation. Be a big person~
I feel blessed being accepted, and I choice not worry about the accreditation status since I, myself could not do anything about it. why not just enjoy your new year beginning and be confident....🙂

Hear hear...my thoughts exactly. 👍

You wouldn't even be losing the deposit completely, since half of it is refundable! Like Sunflower, I feel blessed and extremely fortunate to even be accepted to a pharmacy school. You can either be more optimistic about your acceptance, or just give up your seat if you feel the school isn't worth your time and money.

Very well said CeruleanSky and SunFlower! 🙂

You go girl, *pats on back*. Thanks for sharing, and I love your positive outlook at the end😉

I can understand what kind of situation you are in. I can also understand why your dad is really anal about this school. I mean I work with pharmacists all the time, and they are very overly cautious and nit picky. However, you should be proud to be accepted to this school, because it is after all, an accelerated program. Several people have been rejected already, and probably wish they were in your place. I didn't make any comments to offend you or anything, just simply suggesting that if you and your dad are unsure of this school, call the committee and ask. They don't mind students calling and asking questions. They will not guarantee that it will get accreditation b/c many things can happen b/t now and then, but it's not as if they are making a big deal out of the school not getting accredited. But good luck in what you decide to do. Maybe I will see you next year! 🙂

Hi, pologirl242
I know you did not offend me. 😀 I expected your kind of response-positive but not offensive😀 Well, I will be there one more time next week and meet with committee and discuss about accredation and my own problem. I will also visit another campus and available houses. I guess I will be able to decide what to do after this trip. I do wish everything works out very well.

the two campuses are about 10 miles away. The Garden campus is in Grundy, but if you can not find it in Mapquest. You should follow the direction they have in their website...

Hi,
I have an interview on the 27th of jan. I don't know where this schedule is that she said would be posted on the websiter by midweek. Has anyone heard back after they confirmed their interview date? Thanks.

Hello room,
I received an email invitation for interview at UAP on Jan. 27th. Just curious if any other fellow SDNers gonna be there on that day too. I've never been to this state/town so any advice/tips would be very nice. I'd appreciate it. 🙂
thanks you and good luck to all.

The Garden Campus is in Oakwood, Virginia.....just up the road (rt 460) from Grundy. (between Richlands and Grundy)

Hey everyone, I joined SDN a few minutes ago. I will be attending an interview on the 27th of January at UACP. I am from Iowa, and this will be my first visit to Virginia. I am flying out, and will be ventureing to Grundy on Friday. I will be renting a car and staying at a hotel in town. I look forward to the opportunity, and all your posts have been a great source of help. If others will be making the same treck, it sounds like car-pooling is a great option. Just throwing it out there-

Thanks
