The fellowship offers a blend of clinical, surgical, and research experience in an academic environment. The fellow will receive a salary at the PGY-5 pay level. The program provides outstanding hands-on experience in the medical and surgical management of difficult orbital and periocular cases in adults, adolescents, and children. Surgical procedures performed by the fellow as primary surgeon include the entire spectrum of orbital, lacrimal, and periocular cases. Clinic responsibilities include pre-op evaluation, new patient consults, routine exams, trauma evaluations, testing, neuro-imaging, and post-op management. A comprehensive surgical experience encompasses the full spectrum of lacrimal, eyelid and orbital reconstructive surgeries due to disease or injury. The fellows actively participate in resident teaching, surgery, and clinics. They also participate in clinical research efforts centered on innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to lacrimal, oculoplastic, and orbital diseases. There are frequent interactions with other subspecialties, including dermatology, head and neck surgery, pathology, general plastic surgery, oral/maxillofacial surgery, neurosurgery, outside oculoplastic surgeons, and neuroradiology in a busy medical center setting. The fellowship is designed to train individuals who are planning to return to their country to practice and teach lacrimal and orbital surgery there.
