if your are an oos for both schools, which one would you choose? 🙂
Are they BOTH $71,000 a year? If not, I would go to the one that WASN'T $71,000/year.

hahahhaha no... just colorado is ridiculous like that 🙂 but it seems to be a better school. oh i am torn

Colorado isn't good enough over Cincinnati to justify 70,000. I'd say go with UCinn.

Do you like mountains and doing everything and anything outdoors? All I have seen of Cincinnati I have seen wathcing WKRP. but I don't remember mountains. I also don't remember Herb Tarlick or johnny Fever engaging in many outdoor activities.

Seeing as how I haven't been offered an interview, I can't believe I am encouraging you to come to Colorado, but it is a good school and--when you have time--there is a lot to do.

thanks gd. I am very clinical research orientated... and I get the impression that colorado has more opportunities in terms of that. but 71000.. oh boy. I wonder how the other oos in colorado afford that... I got to talk to them

UCinn unless your parents have money to burn. Otherwise, are you nuts? Go to Cinncinatti or you'll be the only 65 year old doctor still eating spaghettios.

Is that tuition only for a year regardless, or because it's easy enough to acquire state residency after a year?

The latter. The first day of orientation, they would tell you to go and get your Colorado drivers license. One year later, you're back in the reasonable range for tuition.

Thanks sim. I am in fact in state and am thrilled beyond measure to have been accepted. The early acceptance was more than just icing on the cake! Congratulations to you as well! You know that Colorado is #4 in the nation for research $$$ per Dr. Sondheimer's presentation on interview day. If you are really interested in this aspect of medicine, take the hit on loans and come to Colorado. I believe the max federal loans you can get under Stafford is around 150k and there are plenty of private lenders that will loan you money as well if you have good credit. I'm expecting to max out federal loans and creep into the private sector as well even though I am instate just to keep afloat (I'm a non-trad with a family). Either way, congratulations and best of luck!

I'd just like to point out although Colorado may have a stronger research programme, don't get the impression that UCinn is some bumpkin med school not turning out any research. A significant amount of research opportunities exist, and multiple new research buildings are being constructed (completed sometime 2007?) The school is on its way up. And at Cincinnati, after the first year you too can apply for Ohio residency and get even cheaper tuition.
