University of Illinois at Chicago c/o 2017 applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
As far as I know you have to finish up the prerequisites in Spring semester, but I think summer classes before the year you want to matriculate are accepted. So for us starting this fall, summer 2013 classes will not be accepted, but summer 2012 will... I am not 100% sure though, because I do not have any summer classes, so I did not look into it to much.

Yeah, that's right. As long as you finish all required prerequisites by the spring of the year you plan to matriculate, you're good to go.

New student orientation is June 14. I'm guessing they have to start pulling off the waitlist pretty soon.

Thanks, everyone who are posting more information about their process, it helps us hopefuls learn what we need to do ahead of time. I'm going over all of what I have to complete to have my full Pre-pharm classes done so I know when I have to start all of the process. UIC is one of my top picks, especially since the Rockford Campus is very close to me. From everything I have done, I pretty much have the Chem, Calc, and physics stuff to do before I'm done with the Pre-Pharm. Holding a 4.0 GPA across my classes for my PharmTech Associates, so we will see how things go when I transfer.

As unfortunate as this sounds and as much as you want to do something about it, I really don't think there's anything you can do since that course is specifically pre-pharmacy. The school's website states: "Complete all pre-pharmacy coursework with a C grade or better by the end of the spring semester of the admission year. C- (C minus) grades must be repeated."

You should probably take the course again with a different instructor and perhaps find a good tutor who can guide your studies from the beginning. I know this means you would be a year behind (assuming the waitlist will reach your spot), but I do not think you have a better option if you are still serious about pharmacy. If you are close to earning a bachelor's degree it might be a good idea to go ahead and do that before pharmacy school. That way it wouldn't really be a "wasted" year.

Yeah my friend was in the exact same boat. Unfortunately they won't offer you admission for this year and will have to reapply for next years cycle. You need to retake the class and should let UIC know so they can open up the waitlist spot to someone else.

Yeah UIC does not take this Summer semester credit. But you can still retake the class for other schools.

I think instead of saving the spot for someone else, UIC will skip his/her waiting number and go down the list.

Just for those who haven't been looking, it looks like UIC COP is finally updating the waitlist movement on their website.

"Fall 2013

The numbers below indicate how far down we have gone on the wait list.

Chicago Wait List: 6"

Good luck to those waiting

Is there a separate waitlist for rockford? Does anyone know?

I think it's the same list and they just pull and send offers based on responses made on the supplemental.
Oh I meant is there like a separate link online to see where they're at on te list for Rockford

Assuming the wait-list web page is not being updated daily, I was wondering if anyone got accepted with wait-list number higher than 9?

My friend was pulled off last Tuesday & she was number 10.

Thank you all for replying. They called me and told to retake the course, meaning i have no chance this year. I had a seat reserved at CSU college of pharmacy and they accept summer classes but UIC was my top choice. I so regret taking orgo2 at UIC now, should have taken from a community college.
CSU is so far away and I hear the location is not safe too. Is it possible to transfer to UIC next fall from CSU?

Well it's not always a guarantee that all your credits will transfer from CSU. On the PharmCas UIC page it says that they accept 0-5 transfer applications though http://schoolpages.pharmcas.org/publishedsurvey/475

how many of you on the waitlist are switching your preference from "only Chicago" to both campuses?

Can you actually do that? I thought that once you choose the campus you cannot change it...

Are you asking for where to do your pre-reqs or what school you should apply to as a prospective pharmacy student.

Anyway, the school you do your pre-reqs at isn't a huge difference maker. Some pharmacy schools may like it if the school you attended has a reputation for having pretty intensive courses. Public four year state schools are usually pretty good in terms of getting a challenging undergrad experience and ample preparation for graduate programs. If you're interested in UIC COP, going to the UIC east campus for undergrad is a good start. I have heard UIC COP looks somewhat favorably upon students applying in from UIC undergrad.

There isn't one particular pharmacy program that is the best for everyone. You'll have to spend some time researching ones that interest you, visiting campuses, talking to current students about their experiences, and determining which school is a good fit for you. Gear your pre-pharmacy toward one or two top choices, but keep your options open since you may not get accepted to those programs.

Some factors to consider are location, cost (as well as whether you would have to pay an out of state rate), reputation, length of program (most are 4 years, but there are a few exceptions), and whether a bachelor's degree is required for admission.

PharmCAS has a good directory you can use to compare schools. If you see a program that interests you, go to the school's website and you'll likely get a more current and thorough description.

Did the wait-list seriously stop at 20 this year?

They haven't updated the list for a month now.

From the email Tenhoeve sent, it looks like it might :/ What number are you on the waitlist?

Hey I an African American student from the south side of Chicago. I don't have the best Verbal abilities as shown by my PCAT scores. I have improved a great amount since attending purdue but I am worried that my scores and my inferior verbal ability will inhibit me from even getting an interview. I can communicate at an ok level now but I am still inferior to many of the other applicants.

I just want to know If you thought that I still had a chance to get into UIC COP with my poor educational background.

Grades Chem major: I will have completed three years of my chemistry degree by spring 2014.
At Purdue University, I received A's in all pre-pharmacy coursework except Organic Chemistry 1 lab (C) and Physics 1(B+).

I work as a Chem/Bio tutor at Purdue.
I worked a summer as a CNA in a nursing home. I also worked a summer as sterilization assistant in a dental clinic

I have been a supplemental instructor for Organic 1(once in the Fall and once in the summer), gen chem 115 and 116, I have even been the S.I. in A&P 1.

I am the president of the chem/physics club.

I volunteer at random events at YMCA on the west side of Chicago. I also volunteer as a high school and middle school tutor in Gary Indiana at salvation army.

I have shadowed 1 5 hours at an independent pharmacy, and 1 8 hour shift in a clinical pharmacy setting.

My cumulative G.p.a is 3.68, Prepharm gpa 3.74, math science gpa 3.69.

Pcat scores: Biology 89, Verbal 18, Reading 26, Chemistry 93, Quantitative 72, Writing 3(average 3.4 i believe).

Please let me know if it is till possible for me to get an interview with the above stats.:confused:
While I, myself, am a recent applicant, I wanted you to at least have a response. I don't see anything wrong aside from an accidental typo, you seem well spoken. Your extracurriculars are good and your stats are absolutely fine. The PCAT is timed, and some would argue it's quite rushed. I wouldn't worry so much about your reading and verbal scores.

Don't let that hold you back from applying if pharmacy is something you take very seriously.

thanks :) I feel less worried about my application now.

Hi all. I am an applicant for Class of 2018. I just got an interview invitation. Is it possible for you guys to share some tips for the interview with me ( such as the format of the interview and the questions they asked). Thank you sooooo much and your help is appreciated!!!
