For some reason they only counted my Physics 2 lab; not Physics 1 lecture or Physics 1 Lab not even Physics 2 lecture, and not one of my many biologies for the 8 hours required. I guess I loose

looks like they average out your percentile for verb/quant/analytical for one score out of 100 for GRE. This makes my stellar quantitative/writing score look bad because of verbal 🙁
Also, they didn't count any animal science courses in my sci GPA but they counted my all bio courses even specific ones that arent required. so strange.

I think I would have preferred not looking at this status page sighh...

I just realized, I was a bio major so taking out my animal science courses (~3) for my sci gpa wasnt a big deal. Did anyone apply as an animal science major? Did they take out half of your sci classes to calculate your sci gpa? or did they include your animal sci classes?

cowgirla- that sucks 🙁 im sorry! i hope that was a typo and you meant to say it dropped .05, if not, .5 is insane. i think if i need to apply next year i won't include IL, with them narrowing down our OOS chances it seems like a waste of money

georgie- oh really? i had no clue they did this. i guess i missed it on their site

I was an Animal Science major--basically, it looks like they included my gen bio and gen chem (okay), my orgo (blah), genetics (good), biostat (okay) and maybe one or two others. But yeah, the .5 wasn't a typo, and they better still be going through! Most of my ansci grades are my high ones.

Where are you seeing which classes they used to calculate your gpa and which ones they didn't use??

if you scroll all the way down it should list your courses (unless this part isnt completed for you maybe they arent there?). I think my regular gpa was lower because they implement the +/- system, but i think they included all classes. The classes used for sci gpa are listed in the last column (yes/Y or no/N).

based on what I see on my status page...I'm gonna go ahead and just assume that UI is out, it was kind of my wild-card school anyway.

*scratches head* Maybe it's because I am an ANSC major here at the U of I, but they counted all of my ANSC courses towards my science GPA....

yea a lot of my science classes didn't count either...mostly at a community college, but i took a quarter of biochem at a university but they didn't count it...

what's going on?

I hate to be the one it worked out for.... but they did report ALL of my science classes... just thought I'd contribute my experience. I go to a private school in Missouri

It says I have 2 expected transcripts, only one of which has been received. The second one is for a community college where I'm taking a class this quarter, so there's no transcript for them to send yet since it's the only class I've ever taken there. Think I'm ok? Are they smart enough to figure that one out or do I have to explicitly tell them not to expect the other one?

well there's a slot for fall 2009 for that. It should be listed under there and if so they just have that for later when they do receive that transcript.

I wrote them to ask about it. It seems as though if you have a yes or no marked by it for your science GPA they have already checked it and it is final. But i mean, i guess this response doesnt mean that is 100% for everyone.

Here is the response I got:
All animal science courses are not used in the science gpa. Please read our science course requirement in our brochure.

The word “science” in the course title does not mean the course will automatically be included in the science GPA. The decision is based on course content and the contribution the course would make in strengthening the scientific background of the applicant. Courses of a technical nature are unlikely to count in either the science or cumulative GPA. Any courses that count in the GPA must be capable of receiving transfer credit to the undergraduate or graduate programs at the University of Illinois. If there is a question about the transferability of a course, applicants should consult with the institution at which the course was taken and with the Office of Academic and Student Affairs in the College of Veterinary Medicine (217/333-1192).

So I noticed on my status page they counted any dropped classes I had. That meant I got 0.00 points for it. Needless to say that brought my GPA down. Also, my major was civil engineering-all my courses were science based. Not many past my pre-reqs and calculus classes counted. Maybe they aren't done deciding on my application. Im sure there arent many past civil engineers...its a little rare as a pre-vet student

But, will they countinue to count dropped courses?

yea they said it doesn't count just because it is science. It all depends on the course content, and I'm sure most of those horribly hard engineering classes didn't qualify which sucks. I don't know about the dropped classes thing, did you drop them with a fail or drop them before that point in the semester??

I didnt even notice that at first. They didn't count it on my sci GPA (even though it was a sci course) but they did count it on my regular GPA. I think that is why it dropped so much (not because of the +/- system) That sucks, what happened to freshman forgiveness?!?! lol

natalieises- i dropped my class (W), not failed

Wow, talk about major suckitude (pardon the lack of intelligent thought). I've never heard of dropped classes counting towards your GPA, but maybe I've been living a sheltered life. If that's really what they meant to do, I'm screwed, since I dropped an entire semester. You don't even get credits for dropped classes - how would they even weight the dropped classes?

My stuff is up there with science/non, but they haven't calculated my GPAs yet.

Yeah, I have a MSME and they didn't count any of those courses, not that I really expected they would, but still....they're SCIENCE.

If it makes you guys feel better, I don't think they know what to make of my transcripts:
Cumulative GPA: 0.00 = (Points: 0.00 / Hrs: 0.00)
Science GPA:
0.00 = (Points: 0.00 / Hrs: 0.00)

lol

That's horrible...i guess i could see somewhat counting a class that was dropped with a fail, but something you withdrew from completely? That sucks.

So I looked at my status page again, and i counted up all my credits without my dropped or AP courses. It turns out they did NOT count my withdrawn class. But they did write a Y next to it, as if they did.

Oilidigigoat- you may want to individually count all the credits you have and maybe it will turn out the same. I have no clue why they wrote down that they counted it in our GPA but maybe you will find that the "hours" they have for you dont actually include it

Georgie- by the credit hours for my withdrawn class they listed 4, so it looks really scary when you see it because it does look like it counts, especially with the Y next to it. but I am def more relieved now 🙂

ok you are right Blackkat33. I added them up. They marked a Y next to it as if they did use it...but they didn't. I had a slight panic attack.😉

Well my GPA is still slightly lower than expected..but if everyone else feels similar than I guess it doesn't matter. I wrote a great essay and have some good experiences....so I can't worry too much about the numbers.

Are all of your GPAs showing up already on the page? Mine's not there. They Y's and N's are, but all the points in the chart are 0.00 as are both the GPAs.

Variegata, nope my cumulative/science GPAs are still 0.00 too. Perhaps it has something to do with being OOS. No idea.

Actually, it doesn't even seem as if they've decided on which classes on my transcript are science either. I have "N" all the way down the Science GPA column. That or I'm just completely screwed.

Anyway, hopefully it'll be updated soon!

It looks to me like they included courses that are in progress in the GPAs. Because next to the two courses that I'm taking now, it says that they are being counted in my Cum. GPA and have 0.00 next to it. That might be why they are a bit low...or not. 😉

Okay, peoples,
Chill out.

They haven't set your grades and what is counted as science yet.
Until then, they are going through each and every transcript individually.

The people that are at UIUC for undergrad have it a little easier, because they just have to move the grades over, and go down a list of what counts and what does not count as a science credit. Certain course numbers at UIUC do not count as science (like ANSC 100, 103, etc...), and will be corrected.

If it still doesn't look like they have your grades right by this Thursday, then you can call admissions and make sure they have everything correct. They will probably tell you that they aren't done looking at your transcripts, which happened last year and the year before that.

I know it looks crazy right now, but they usually have spurts of activity as far as the status updates are concerned.

The 0.00 is a place holder and is not counted in your gpa. I did a spreadsheet to make sure, year before last. Theresa or one of the other great ladies in the ASA office, will tell you that it's not counted if you want to call.

oilidigigoat- yes my gpa is also slightly lower, i think this is because of the +/- system because unfortunately i have more -'s than +'s.

I am OOS and they do have my final cum GPA and sci GPA. I bet it takes a long time to finish one person and since I'm already done when others aren't I'm thinking maybe it is just by the rate in which they got your info. I sent my transcripts/VMCAS/supp early so that is why mine is probably done early.

Nope, not true. I got my supplemental in an hour before the deadline *sheepish grin* and I got all of my grades crunched and transcripts evaluated before more people began posting about issues with this...so I think mine was evaluated the day the portal reopened. 😵'

I wonder how they do it then, maybe its just random.

every time i see this thread pop back up to the top, i get scared that people have gotten responses lol

I just looked on the status page and saw:

Admission Status: Application review in progress
Interview Confirmation Status: Interview not offered

I thought they didn't let you know about OOS interviews until at least January...does this mean I for sure don't have an interview or does that mean that they are still looking over my application? Does anybody else have this as their status?

I don't know what this means.... I"m OOS, mine says

Interview Confirmation Status:

Pending application review Admission Status:

Application review in progress

😕

SmilyStar5- mine says the same thing. It just means they haven't looked at our application yet.

I figured that wasn't a good sign...oh well. Here's to hoping for the others... 🙁

Are they going through the apps alphabetically like they did when reviewing our transcripts? My last name starts with an "S" and only maybe five days ago did my transcript evaluation info and gpa show up. My status says "pending application review" and "application review in progress."

My last name starts with D and mine still says pending, but I am also OOS, so I don't know what it means. I think its all a big, stupid mystery. 😀

My last name starts with a C and mine is still pending as well. But it makes me nervous to think that it could change anyday now.

Yeah mine is still pending and i'm a B.. soo

But, this was the status page from last year in case anyone was interested in when they might be sending out interview dates.

LAST YEAR!!! (no one freak out 😀)

Don't worry I still don't have a calculated gpa yet! Must be going slow around there lol

UPDATE: My gpa finally got calculated today! I'm a W by the way.

i went to check the illinois admissions status page and i got a message saying "the sites security certificate has expired". Does this happen to anyone else?? I may be confusing illinois's site with colorado's, but i thought that they both did status updates/notifications thru the website. am i wrong? was the portal supposed to expire?

You can fix that on your computer. There is a link below it. click there and follow through it. Once i fixed it on my computer once... it never happened again 🙂
