University of Illinois?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats everyone!! I got my letter in the mail today too. I still have to make my final decision, but Illinois will probably win because of the IS tuition. See y'all in the fall! 😀

start an unofficial facebook page?????? PLEAAAAAAASE? i dont know how....I think we need a logo...

I remember on interview day them telling us about a facebook page that was already set up for the class of 2014...

I went to Purdue for undergrad, and know a lot of people in the vet school now. If there's anything you want to know about the school or city or whatever let me know and I'll ask around.

Thanks for the offer! I'm actually at Purdue now for undergrad too, which makes it a hard choice since both schools are awesome, but I just feel more at home in west laf and feel I can really do well in their program format. I hope all of these IS declines get you off that alternate list!

Well in that case...Boiler Up!! I do love the homey feel of Purdue and I remember talking about that in my illinois interview when they asked me why I went to Purdue for undergrad. Thanks for the hope!

After the sentence that says they can't tell you your rank is there one that says... "At this time, given your relative position on the list, there is a possibility (in bold) that you will be offered admission in the class of 2014" And the word possibility may be likely, somewhat likely, or unlikely. Reread and see if you skipped over that. I knew to look for it, but I could see that you might just pass over it if you weren't aware of it beforehand.

Congrats to everyone that got in!!!!!! I'm really happy for all of you!!!

Also, they definitely left out that sentence with my relative position. Maybe I'm a "not likely" and they didn't want to tell me. lol.

Truth-
hee. you did! Thanks for that confidence in me, and all of us. I'm stoked! So stoked, I can kill a banana..................

:diebanana::zip:

So-are there no clinical rotations this semester? all classes? how are they? When will you be back in the clinic?

We'll be back in clinic the second 8 weeks of fall semester, right after you guys are done. We have to learn all of this stuff, some time. The curriculum is on 8 week intervals, as well. We are ending one section with finals this week and will start one week of the next section, before spring break starts. Yes, I'm still up, but not studying. If I don't know it by now, it's too late to stress my brain. I'll go to bed in about two ticks from now.

hi pigsfoot, there's a facebook page already set up. now that you've been accepted (congratulations, by the way!!!!), ask to join the university of illinois class of 2014 group. once they receive your postcard in the mail, they will add you to the group. this is what i remember hearing @ interview day, anyway... let's test my memory!

Can't wait to meet all of you guys! I know this is probably too early to be asking, but are any of you planning on moving to Champaign in the summer?? My bf got into grad school at U of I too so I have already been planning to move this summer.

i think i will definitely start looking and hopefully move in to a place later this summer... not officially stay and live there until school starts. (bf is up here in chicago).

thanks Hailey! that makes sense. I will ask to join and hopefully they'll get my postcard asaps. I can't wait to start sharing some crazy human med stories with you!!!!

I probably will try to start looking for a place, but won't move down until august. My husband is here, and will be staying here (in Chicago) and I need to spend as much quality time with him here as possible!!!

OMG I AM STILL IN SHOCK! but so happy. so. very. happy.

Has anyone's status changed yet? Mine hasn't and I'm dying to know if I got in or not because I can't check my mail.

hi pigsfoot, not a problem! i'm just laughing (behind this computer screen) because everything you wrote mirrors how i'm feeling too. i'm like a kid in a candy shop... and i'm trying to spend as much time up here as possible with my bf (we talk to each other like an old married couple tho lol)...

maybe once the facebook page is up, we can set up a chicago-ish get-together. just a thought.

have a good one!

best of luck to everyone and all your decisions

Just to let you know, my status has changed as of this afternoon.

Congrats everyone!!! I will see you in August - I got my letter yesterday! I am so excited to meet everyone!!

Oh my gosh, I got an email from Karen saying that the statuses had changed (I asked her when I could expect this to happen) while waiting to go into my UTk interview, and couldn't check until now...but I'm In! Yay congrats to everyone else on their acceptance. Now, let the decision-making and waiting continue.

Yay congratulations everyone! I'm excited to meet you all!

Congrats everyone! We are going to have an awesome class. 👍

I forgot to mention in my last post that anyone looking for housing feel free to contact me. I live in a pet-friendly home located in a wonderful neighborhood near the vet school that will have several bedrooms available starting in the summer/fall. I would love to live with fellow vet students! If you're interested, send me a PM with your email address for more information. 😉

Any advice? i'm debating between Minnesota and Illinois....

Congratulations to everyone who got in. I'm in too! :highfive: Status changed today, but no letter yet...hopefully they didn't make a mistake. I'm so happy I keep asking my bf to pinch me (just in case I'm dreaming 😛). Anyways, I will be looking to move in July/August.

hey there everyone! Im brand new to this forum but I have been officially accepted into The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine Class of 2014! Congrats to all of you who have also made it! I was also accepted into Kansas State but I have officially decided to go to Illinois as of today! So exciting! I'm already looking at apartments! Again congrats to everyone and I cant wait to meet all of you!

anybody know how/when we get matched up with our big sib?

Any advice? i'm debating between Minnesota and Illinois....

I'm not sure how the University of Minnesota curriculum is, but I am personally drawn to the additional weeks of clinicals in the U of I curriculum. My experience in (human) healthcare is that clinical rotations are hands-on experience is invaluable. Having a strong knowledge base is obviously important, but being proficient and comfortable in the clinical setting is something you can only really learn through being hands-on.

Just my 2 cents. Not sure if it helps (if it doesn't, I apologize!)

big sib?? If they talked about it @ i-day, I must have spaced out. 🙁 Edu-ma-cate me?

its when you get paired with an incoming 2nd year who is supposed to help get you introduced to the whole program. i may know about it because i have friends who are in the program and they told me about it, not sure if they mentioned it at interview day, i wasnt at any of the info sessions....
eh. i guess all these answers will come in time. i am just anxious already to know stuff! We wont even be getting more information until....JUNE? that's a long time!

Has anyone been accepted into the official U of I class of 2014 facebook page yet? I asked to become a member a couple of days ago and its still pending. I am hoping that page will offer some answers to questions I have been having :luck:

Thanks Hailey. It keeps everything in perspective for me. I liked MN much more than IL, I am just trying to justify paying 1 or 2 years of OOS tution.
Can't decide if it's worth it or not...

hey zoogirl, when it comes to deciding what next step to take, I always believe in following what your heart tells you. You will always have friends, parents, relatives, teachers, and even forums telling you what they think you should do and what may be "practical," etc... but at the end of the day, you will be living with your decision. If you have the choice of IL or MN, there really isn't a "right" or "wrong" answer. The equine vet that I shadow from time to time once told me that he thinks the veterinary education you get is pretty much comparable from school to school. I take this as meaning this: when it comes down to you vs. you... what school really excites you? Where do YOU truly feel like you will fit in and/or excel?

I sure hope this helps. I'd be more than happy to be in touch with you via e-mail if you want any more of my nutty thoughts that way.

Chin up!

Quick note: Everyone that is on the waitlist get excited! I decided to go I'm headed to Mizzou instead of Illinois, so a spot is opening up for someone else!!! Good luck to everyone with your trip through U of I!!! 🙂

I can't even find the group!

Thanks Hailey! I appreciate all the advice!!!
I talked to my vet today, and he said that IL and MN have a comparable curriculum, same as what your equine vet said. MN does excite me more, but IL does as well. Vet school is something I have been wanting since I was at least 12, so I am excited either way. haha. 😀
I feel like I would excel at either school, but I feel like I fit in better in MN. However, I don't necessarily feel out of place at IL. haha.
I enjoyed meeting the current students more so at MN, and they seemed a bit nicer, but honestly, classmates are luck of the draw on their niceness. And I haven't met anyone on this page that isn't nice! 😀

I guess the decision will just take time. I am leaning towards IL right now, mainly because of cost.

How are you guys going to style your hair for orientation??

oh my gawd!

😍

I can't even find the group!

If you go to "groups" on the left hand side of your home page on facebook and then search for "Illinois Veterinary Class of 2014" the page should pop up and you can request to become a member. Apparently this is how they will send out information over the summer (if I understood correctly). Hopefully this helps!

Congratulations to everyone who got in! I'm really happy for guys!🙂

I've been waitlisted and am one of the people who didn't get any indication of where I am on the alternate list. I'm hoping that's a really good thing and not a really bad thing but it makes me feel like this: :scared:

Good luck to everyone! :luck:

Hey there people. Congratulations!

Make sure you look put together for orientation, because those pictures will follow you around for 4 years.
Seriously.

Truth-what do you mean, exactly, by put together? do we have to dress nice? i thought there would be activities like tug of war, calf wrangling and the trust game?

I have a question for Truth too: Are clinics held on campus? Where are they held usually?

Thanks 🙂

Pigsfoot, I think you may mean iVLE, which is held before orientation.
For orientation when you get the programs put on your computer and get other information, you should bring a comb and brush, because pictures are usually taken that day. You don't have to dress up, because they'll only get from your neck up.

luvsgoldens, The rotations are mostly at the teaching hospital (Large and Small Animal Clinics. There is one at the dairy. There are other rotations that will have field trips to locations outside of town.

Truth-
do you know the small animal case load that comes through the clinic each year?

They got my acceptance for the admission offer! My status changed. I'm bonafide!

..

Does anyone know when U of I starts calling people in off of the waitlist? Do they wait until April 15 or do they start calling people as the initial offers of admissions get turned down?

Turned in my acceptance today! Walked it straight into Academic affairs lol. I wanted to make extra sure that they got it 🙂
