Hi Everyone! I have decided on the Carver College of Medicine for school and I'm wondering who else is gonna be there next year. It'd be great to get to know people before getting there.

I loved this school on my interview day, and really enjoyed doing research in Iowa City last summer. Definitely high on my list, just waiting to see what kind of financial aid they can offer. Best of luck to everyone and maybe I'll see you next year! 😀

Anyone who is even seriously considering it? Feel free to
say hi!

I love this school!! They were so generous and kind throughout the entire application process. I stayed in Iowa City for 3days, i had a chance to mingle with locals, went to a craft fair and everyone is so nice.. I'm excited about being accepted... great facilities also and I'm intrigued by the global health programs too.

I accepted last week. I am waiting on a couple of other schools, but at this point I am Iowa-bound.

does anyone know if Iowa offers a second look day for accepted students?
Iowa was my first interview and I have since been accepted to other schools. So now i am super confused on where to go..i would like to take another look at iowa considering it is InState for me and near the rents.

I think that they have a get aquainted day or accepted students in the spring sometime. Other than that I'd either call them and ask or get in touch with current students, like those that house interviewees and see if they'd be willing to show you around or answer some questions for you.

How long did you guys have to wait after your interviews to know if you were accepted?

I just received info in the mail about a second look day on April 10th, so they do have one and hopefully I will get to see a lot of you all there b/c this is one of my top schools that I am considering!

TheMan21 - I waited about 2 months to find out about being accepted, but it seems like it kind of varies for people as other people seemed to get accepted at a much shorter time than I did from the interview.

I'll be attending Carver next year. We should eventually make a facebook group. I would make it, but I don't know anyone else who plans to attend.... 🙂

I have been accepted to the CCOM about a month ago and am very excited about it, but I was just wondering, I read something about how they wanted to have there entire class figured out by like march, does that mean that we can't hold a spot here until may 15th like with most other schools?

I'd check with them to be sure but I think that only means they make all of their offers by then. They said they take people on the waitlist even the week before classes start so I'm pretty sure you can change your mind at almost any time.

Oh ok that makes alot more sense, thanks for your input!

Hey, I was accepted at CCOM a couple of months ago. I was waiting to hear back from Utah, and I just got the rejection yesterday, so it looks more like I will be going to Iowa. I interviewed there last year and really liked the school & felt the same way this year. I do have an interview at U of Washington in a few weeks, so we'll see.

I'm already in Iowa City but I'll be in class with everyone come August as well. GO HAWKS!!

Did everyone get the email about the Dell computer we'll be getting? I'm a mac person but I know those convertable laptop tablet computers are popular at some other schools so maybe it'll be on like that??

HerkyMD: are you there for undergrad now?

Hi fellow UI people!
Just wondering if there's any other West-costers on here who've also been accepted and who are attending the reception they're having in Los Angeles in March. YAY go Iowa!
Toni

it'll prolly be just for school stuff. yes, i too love my mac! and not leaving it....

not cool though to add it into the cost of attendance.

im from california. coming to terms with leaving my great state : / . but iowa is a great school with good people : ]

himdoc: was here for undergrad and now i'm doing a year towards my MPH.

i'm also a little ticked about this computer deal because i just bought a new HP over christmas break. would have been nice to know this info before i dropped $700. I'm not too fond of dell's but what can ya do?

Yeah Im also a mac person and am not too happy about this laptop thing, especially getting a Dell, oh well.

Just curious, anyone planning on attending get acquainted day in April?

There's a reception in March? That's cool! Wonder why I didn't hear about it, I'm up here repping Portland, OR.

Hey all, got accepted a few months ago, just now remembered there was a class thread going on! I'm not 100% going here yet, but the possibility is very likely, so I though I'd stop in and say hi 🙂.

I plan on going April 10th although I don't know how we are supposed to RSVP yet.

Thanks for standing up for Iowa on that other thread soccordoc6. I was trying but it didn't seen to be getting through, anyway glad you'll be attending Carver. I think we're gonna have a great class.

Haha himdoc, are you talking about my Mich vs. Iowa thread? LOL. Geez, if those are the people that end up at UM I don't want to go there...go Hawkeyes! Annnnd...Iowa is very competitive for CA residencies (someone had mentioned that). Carver sends the biggest portion of its people to CA after Iowa and they all go to UCSF, Davis, UCLA etc...very competitive places, my mom's friend went to Carver, she matched at Yale...😀

 Carver is awesome... just don't go hating on other schools after criticizing others for hating on yours. 😉

Yea thats the thread I was talking about... I totally agree. If you do choose Iowa I'm sure we will all be very happy to have you as part of the class. And don't worry, Iowa city really isn't so bad, a lot of my life-long friends have been there for years and they love it. Even one, who is half-Japanese, from California, and spent two years living in Spain loves it there.

Yeah, everyone at UM is an arrogant, prestige-loving jerk. 🙄

If you've been there, you know that is far from the truth.

Wow that is so not what I said. Please let's not start this arguement up again.

Sorry, I guess I took your comment wrong. Go Hawks? 😀

Hey All - I just talked to the admissions office about 2nd look and they said they are e-mailing information out this week about it. So we should be hearing soon! Hope to see a lot of you guys there.

Hey everyone, got the info for April 10th. I'll be there plus my "significant other." I think we are gonna stay at the Comfort Suites Coralville, Coralville IA, where I stayed for my interview also. Pretty nice, cheap and not too far. Hope you see you all there.

Hi Himdoc!
Me and my SO are also heading to the 2nd look weekend. I was wondering if you think we should stay at the Heartland Inn which was recommended by the school or if you know if the Comfort Suites are better. When I came for my interview I stayed at the Iowa House hotel at the Student Union. I thought that was pretty nice too and really close.

Hmm I don't really know which is better probably the same heartland is fine other places I've stayed. I just always expedia it and go for low prices : ) I bet Iowa's hotel is the nicest but comfort in was nice, clean a pool and good breakfast.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be joining you in the Fall. I was accepted a few months ago, but I just got the rejection from U of Washington today so I am definitely going to be a Hawkeye! I'm looking forward to meeting you all.

I stayed at the Heartland Inn when I went for my interview and it was everything you could ask for, and only 55 a night, cant beat that. I cant believe they are willing to reimburse us for the trip, that is so nice, hopefully I will see you all in April!

So I just talked to Deb Henricks and she said that they understand bringing a fiancé or spouse but they don't want it "gettng out" that we can all bring a friend, boyfriend or girlfriend. If we do still want to bring someone we need to call her to make the reservation for a second person.

Where is the info about being reimbursed? I didn't catch that.

I have been researching apartments in Iowa City and I can't find anything good within half a mile from MERF. I want to live here though:

Seems like a legit place and manageable rent with a roommate.

Hey everyone, this thread will probably getting alot more traffic now that acceptances are out, so I wanted to say hi..... Hi!

I got a pretty low number on the IS waitlist, so assuming it moves like it usually does (pretty big assumption, I know) I'll be joining you all in the fall. Skadoosh.

I'm excited to know more people attending next year. Good luck with the waitlist! I knew someone a few years ago who started around the 30s (I think) and then moved up to 2, was stuck there a couple weeks but he got in!

I know, I really want to meet future classmates (not nearly as bad as I want a dozen or so ISers to decline admission for this year, but still). I haven't gotten anything about a second look day yet, so maybe WL people aren't invited yet.

I want to do the MD/MPH thing too, didn't I read somewhere that you were interested in that, himdoc? Do you know if we can take classes this summer for it or is it too late to sign up for that?

Hey everyone! I was accepted a couple of months back, and have pretty much decided on attending Carver this fall. I am really looking forward to meeting all you guys at 2nd look weekend next month.

I seem to have also missed the part about reimbursement for 2nd look weekend. It wasn't in the mail packet they sent out, was it?

Hi! yeah, I applied and was accepted to the MPH program so I'm doing that for sure. I think you can start classes in the summer but I'm not planning on doing that myself. The application wasn't bad and I don't think its too late but I know that infromation is online somewhere with the application info. I think may is the deadline.

I havent looked at the packet for 2nd look, since im out of town, but I thought they did b/c my friend knew someone that got reimbursed for a 2nd look day and he thought it was Carver but I just talked to him and he said he's not positive about that, so my fault i should have been 100% before I posted that on here, anyway, I hope to be able to go to get acquainted day and meet all you guys

Last year I was like 98 on the OOS wait list, and I ended up at around 50. So, I think you have a really good chance of getting in. Good luck!
