Awesome...thanks. I thought so to, but then someone on the pre-allo board was putting ideas in my head and I started second guessing myself.

I just wanted to say that workplace lunch poachers are the lowest form of scum on the planet.

That is all.
Someone stole your lunch? What kind of person does something like that?

Stupid idiots, that's who. I mean, I keep lots of food at work because I'm too lazy to pack a lunch everyday, so I had other stuff to eat. But still. And who steals a healthy choice pizza? They're not even any good!

I can't say that I've ever tried a healthy choice pizza. How many people do you work with...would it be possible to identify the culprit? You could always start putting your name on it, too. It's kinda lame, but so is stealing someone else's lunch.

Congrats on being done, ladies!!! It's the best feeling in the world, isn't it?!? I'd take you guys out for drinks, but 1) you live too far away, and 2) I have a 7am flight tomorrow. So we'll have to keep it in mind to celebrate in the future.

I withdrew from my other schools today. It was really hard to send those emails, but it needed to be done. I still feel kinda sad, though. 🙁

On a happier note, it's official...I'm a homeowner 🙂

Have a fantastic week, you guys!! I'll see you when I get back from Vegas/Utah!!!

(((hugs)))

Well there are somewhere between 450-500 people in my company all together, but probably only around 200 at my office. So no identifying the culprit. And I think my name was on it. We're supposed to write our name and the date we put it in the fridge/freezer so if something is in there like a year or belongs to someone who leaves, it can be thrown out.

Congrats on your house!!!

Also Greg said he did not approve of a postcard from the Thunder from Down Under. So definitely send one. 😀

Does anyone know if you can qualify for instate tuition after the first year?

I was browsing the UMD med school website earlier today and noticed a news story about Dean Wilson retiring. I browsed through the news archives but couldn't find anything about a new dean being selected. Anyone know anything? Will we be dean-less? Yipes.

And sorry DeigoT, don't know anything about that. You could probably find out from someone at the financial aid office though.

Yes, supposedly you can although there are certain requirements you must meet. For instance, you have to register to vote in Maryland, switch your license over, and the majority of your income must come from within the state (so if your parents are out of state and are giving you money you won't qualify...I've also heard that if most of your money comes from loans it is also a problem, but I think some students are protesting this). You should contact the registrar's office since they have a handout on what it takes to qualify.

Congrats LW!!! You're officially an adult. 😉

I've been at my parent's house and just haven't had time to get near the computer until now. Yay for graduation parties (in lieu of my actual graduation....those ceremonies are a little long for A&S at a state school).

we were THIS close to slipping off the first page. for shame!

Whew!! Thanks for saving us Coz!! 😀

Sorry I've been kinda scarce people. Work was crazy last week and our kitten punctured (we're not sure if he bit it or used his nail but there is a hole right through the center) Greg's laptop cord and we're waiting for the replacement to arrive from Dell, so no decent computer access this weekend.

Is LW back from Vegas? We want all the details!!!

bump...just sitting around and not doing much this week. 😴 Docs are on indefinite strike in India and there's no point of going to the hospital when no patients will be in the OPD...

Why am I suddenly freaking out that I should be confirming Maryland and dropping my other 2 waitlists or something?

Assuming you returned the form that came with your application packet, accepting your acceptance (it was a non-binding form), all you have to do for Maryland is get your transcripts sent in by July 1st. Technically they can take back your acceptance/give your spot to someone else if you don't get your transcripts in by then.

You're allowed to hold waitlist positions after May 15th, just not acceptances.

slow day at work today. the weather has been absolutely terrible the past week. and unfortunately, weather man says it's supposed to rain all this coming week as well. and i send in decisions last friday to my other schools. locked into UMD now. i like closure =).

i am anti-slippage of this thread.

look look!! i made my 50th post!

also, does anyone have a strong recommendation for a messenger bag? there's a thread in allo that's been making me want to get a timbuk2 messenger bag. i currently use a fairly run-of-the-mill messenger bag from eddie bauer.

I cried when I withdrew from the last school I was holding an acceptance at. It was a really hard decision. Someone make me feel better about going to Maryland. I know it was ultimately my top choice but I'm starting to doubt myself and now it's too late to change it.

🙁

Somehow I think Dr. Mario isn't a man.

I just withdrew from my other schools also, including my undergrad institution so it was really hard for me also. On a good note, I just received my final grade for OCHEM II and I MADE IT!!!! So I'm officially off to Maryland in August. Damn that class was the bane of my existence. See y'all soon, I'ma enjoy my summer entirely school free!!!!!!!!

What gave it away? Oh, it was the crying, wasn't it....

I didn't cry, but I couldn't fall asleep for most of the night. I kept wondering if I made the right decision. I had no idea it would be so hard.

I think it also might have been your mentioning it earlier in this thread. But anyway.... I totally commiserate with you. It's so damn easy to have second thoughts and doubts. But I think you just have to suck it up and commit. I read this on a Starbucks cup this morning:

"The irony of commitment is that it's deeply liberating – in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life."

Seriously, sending in those decisions last week was pretty liberating.

I only had one other school to withdraw from as well, and the difference in facilities, tuition, and location all made the decision extremely easy. I don't envy those of you that had to choose between more than one school you really liked.

Maryland - you had me from hello. 😍

Man, Maryland put me on low waitlist.I'm in utter disbelief and shock. It would have been awesome to meet all of you guys.Ironically, this summer, I'll be in Maryland working.

Wow! This is so true...and to think, a Starbucks cup was the source.

Uh...yeah. At least I hoped you weren't a man crying about making a decision. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

So... any word on the dean? Are we going to be dean-less this coming year?

I tried searching google and came up with nothing. My guess is that they will appoint an interim dean until they start interviewing people for the position. I'm a little surprised they don't have someone appointed already, though, considering Dean Wilson probably gave them significant notice.

Lol...what is it about guys and not showing emotion? If you bottle all of that inner angst up, it will explode and may lead you to do something bad. You don't want to go postal on your family and friends, right?

That really sucks...sorry to hear that Mix. Have you gotten accepted at other schools?

The way I see it, these are the only 3 reasons a man should cry:

1) close family member/friend dies
2) if kicked in the nuts
3) at any time over the last 6 years if you're a Knicks fan and just watched a game at the Garden

Not that I would cry at such a situation; wouldn't also cry for (3) 🙄 ....but I'm all about letting anyone express his/her emotions uninhibited whenever it's not at the expense of another person.
