what do you guys do for fun in Bmore?
I will probably do some searching later but for now I'm going to rattle some things off the top of my head:
Sports:
(1)
Camden Yards is only a few blocks away. This wonderfully-designed retro-style ballpark was the inspiration for many 'old school' stadiums that followed. I don't even like Baseball and I appreciate this place. The few times I go to baseball games, I basically go just to hang out with friends since you can get tickets for as low as $5. It should be noted that Camden Yards is one of the few stadiums that exist where you can bring in your own drinks.
(2)
M&T Bank Stadium, the home of the Baltimore Ravens, is also within walking distance, though just a tad bit farther and very close to entrances to I-95 and 295.
Places:
(1)
Harborplace, "a modern urban retail and restaurant complex" located on the Inner Harbor. Lots of food and shopping. You can also find people performing music and so forth along the waterfront.
(2)
ESPN Zone. Sports to watch and play, games, drinking, beer, etc.
(3)
The National Aquarium in Baltimore. Arguably the nicest aquarium in the United States, and possibly the world, especially since the Dec. 2005 expansion "
Coastal Living named it the #1 aquarium in the U.S. in 2006"
(4)
The National Science Center. Learning science, IMAX, etc.
(5)
The Baltimore Zoo. Actually a really nice zoo, not free, but not expensive either.
(5)
Power Plant. I hate this place but some people like it.
The Arts:
(1)
Baltimore Museum of Art. Nice, decent sized collection. It's no National Gallery of Art (which is
FREE), but the Nat'l Gallery is right there in D.C. Just hop in a car.
(2)
Walters Art Museum
(3)
American Visionary Art Museum. Dedicated to showcasing art from those who found an artistic spark without any formal training (part of the requirements to be shown there). Really awesome stuff unlike anything you've seen. I worked there for a short time between college and grad school and I the people who visit love it. In the time I was there I saw Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, Alan Rickman, Tracy Ullman, that guy who plays Lex Luthor on Smallville (too lazy to look up), Edward Norton, Salma Hayek (Norton's fam has strong connections to the area, his uncle basically founded Columbia).
(4+) A few theaters, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, etc.
Bars:
(1)
The Brewers Art...is f-ing awesome.
(2)
Ixia. High class martini bar
(3)
Pickles. Dive bar by Camden Yards. Beer battered pickels, though they sound disgusting, are great.
(3+) Numerous other bars, some great some not.
Plus areas like Fells Point, Canton, Druid Hill, etc. etc. with attractions as well.
Thats off the top of my head. If you wikipedia "Baltimore" you will probably get so many more.
