Has anyone else heard from UMMS about merit scholarships? I received an email today and I was curious as to see how much other people were awarded.

Yep, $15k/year here. They basically matched my in-state tuition to UCLA, which is going to make this decision even harder . . .

In the FinAid chat they said $11k average scholarship, and slighly less than half of matriculants get one (~80?)

hey! i think we interviewed together at northwestern... same interview panel group? cali and amherst gave it away

I guess these emails would have to be done one by one eh? I thought they were going to come out on Monday, but I guess they started early. No news here yet... keeping my fingers crossed though. I wonder what order they're going out in.

Their website says today (March 28) is the day for announcing scholarships. But I think that's just the initial run. As people withdraw, the scholarships get thrown back in the pool and redistributed. I know a girl last year who didn't get one in the initial allotment but later finagled one - write the dean and committee and tell them how much you'd LOVE to go to Michigan, but you just can't give up that in-state tuition.... They listen.

$15k here as well. still can't beat the Mayo combination of tuition / scholarships / need-based grants though!

I got a $20K email today. Seems kind of impressive as a number alone, but not that amazing when you realize the cost of attendance for OOSers is around $63K. I'm curious to see the entire offer on paper.

I can probably get a better offer through needs-based aid alone elsewhere.

I am pretty sure that you can get need-based aid at UMich on top of the merit scholarship that you got. So, in the end you will be much better off than a school that is only going to give you need based aid.

I got $5000 a year...which is fine, but it seems like it might be the lowest amount offered. Don't get me wrong, I am happy to get anything at all, but $5000 is really small in comparison to the overall cost of admission so it wont really influence me that much. I'm in-state so UMich is already a lot cheaper for me.

All the people who got a scholarship at UMich, did you already have your finaid paper work in?

Bump... is anyone getting scholarship emails today? Or were they all given out last Friday?

Edit: Nevermind, I called the office and they said all emails had gone out over the weekend. Bummer. Congrats to those who did get it though.

No. I got 15K per year. I think I will have to talk to them because UMich is one of my top choices so far. For an OOSer, the loan i have to take out will be alot... and Vandy is really pulling my heart with the great full tuition.
