Any news anyone? Has anyone heard anything regarding if/when the waitlist may start to move? Anyone who is planning to withdraw from UMich if they get accepted somewhere else?

another questions, what are the chances of getting off the waitlist for the different tiers?

hey,

i called UMich 2 days ago (maybe 3). They told me that there has been no waitlist movement as of yet, but that it should start by the end of the week, or early next week.

tonyjerry-

i think:
Tier 1: Very Good chance,
Tier 2: Good chance,
Tier 3: Possible (not impossible like most schools).

but that is based on other people on sdn. dont know how reliable.

hopefully we hear good news soon. k, peace.

ohgood. i'm so glad somebody started this thread! (i was just thinking about doing it myself) it seems umich has a fair amount of waitlist movement (katie horne said *all* of the top tier people were accepted last year!), so maybe this'll be more encouraging and upbeat than some of the other waitlist threads 🙂

It should be relatively soon. Letters are probably still coming in from people withdrawing. Some may hear VERY soon.

Just a bit of my magical knowledge. Probably shouldn't say anymore.

Anyone out there who was on the top tier and has now been accepted? If so, when did you find out?

Sunny- spit some more of your magical knowledge!!

That's bogus. I remember last year there were other SDN members (ie, Cytanaka, including me) who were on the top tier but we didn't get in at all. 😕

did u guys send an LOI to them? just curious...

mmz6

Yes, sent a letter of intent after I interviewed because the students really emphasized its importance.
I spoke to Katie Horne at the beginning of April and by no means did she make it seem like top tier was a guaranteed in, but most of the posts on SDN make it seem that way.

well, i dunno.. i exchanged emails with her way back in march and her exact words were "Last year, everyone in the top third got in. But each year is different. I will probably have a better idea by mid-May"

maybe "top third" is different from "top tier"? but if anything my impression was that the top tier has less people than any of the others...

yeah, i agree. she certainly didn't say anything about being top tier guaranteeing an in. but it's nice at this stage to have any sort of encouraging news

You are correct. I was told it is a true bell curve -- with most ppl in the middle tier, and fairly few in the top and bottom tiers. So if you are in the top 3rd, you have a great chance.

i love you 🙂

did you get in, i assume? r u instate or out? congrats either way

Hey guys. I just found out yesterday that I got off the waitlist!! I got a call Wednesday morning from Katie. I am planning on going so hopefully I'll see you in Ann ARbor 😀 FYI, I was in the top tier. I also read in the UMich 2008 thread that a few others have gotten off too so it looks like it is moving now.Good luck to those who are waiting. 😀

congrats zahri!

r u instate or out? did you send an LOI or nething?

thanks,
mmz6

Hey mmz6,
I applied as in state but I don't know if I ended up qualifying as in state or not (it's kind of complicated...I've lived out of state now for a few years)...I'll find out soon when I call to see what my tuition will be. I did send an LOI after I found out I got on the waitlist and knew it was my top choice and I think that is super important for UMich. If it is your top choice and you would go if accepted, I think by all means you should send it. If you're not certain about it but it is among your top choices than I think a letter of interest and additional materials couldn't hurt. Good luck! Maybe I'll see you next year 🙂

Notified via email this afternoon, I'm in! At the beginning of April Katie Horne told me my chances were better than 50% and now it's May and I'm in...so stay optimistic everyone!

congrats kate! i take it your out of state?

mmz6

Congrats Kate...that's good news that it's moving. Are you in state or out?

hey all, fyi, as of last friday (5/21), katie horne says they've taken ~dozen *residents only* off the waitlist but they'll be taking non-residents "soon"

iris....thanks for the info. very helpful!

hey,

did everyone get the email today asking if you are still interested in remaining on the UofM waitlist? if so, what tier are u in?

mmz6

congratulations on the acceptances guys and gals!! 😀 you will enjoy the michigan flavor. 👍

yep....got that e-mail. i am in the top tier. anyone else?

yeah, i got the email too. top tier.. is this a new thing? i don't remember reading about it in previous threads

Hey all,

I was offered a spot in the class yesterday, which I sadly decided to turn down. 🙁 Given my other options, my husband decided he didn't want to go to Ann Arbor. (I am an out of state resident btw.)

Good luck to all!

got the e-mail; top tier as well

i don't think we should get the impression that we're the chosen people or anything 🙂

the people from other tiers may have simply stopped caring enough to read and reply to forums like this one

good luck to all of us

bump- anyone call to see whats up? how far they are in the waitlist... or any info?

thinking of calling tomorrow if no one already has...

if you call, please tell us 🙂

i called monday and i'm scared to call again :luck:

mmz6...i think we would all be grateful if you called them up and asked how much the WL is moving. so far it looks like lyragrl is the only out-of-state person who's posted an offer so far. let us know what they say!

that's weird...it didn't bump when i just posted

sorry, but what does bump mean, and why do some people just say "bump" in their posts ? 🙂

much thanks

"B"ring "U"p "M"y "P"ost 🙂

umich stuck me in the third tier, despite continuous updates and a letter of intent... do i have any chance in hell of making it in, or should i focus my efforts elsewhere? i would definitely be willing to continue pursuing michigan, however, it seems futile at this point. does anyone ever get in off the 3rd tier?? why would they even have a 3rd tier if they can fill their class and more with the top 2 tiers?

i'm not sure anyone really understands how the um wait list works. i am under the impression that people do actually get in from all the tiers. so apparently there is more to it than simply what tier you are in.

those who got the e-mail asking if you want to remain on the wait list - did it tell you which tier you are in? i was previously told top, but there was nothing in my e-mail.

j33 - would you go to um over vandy?

doh, I didn't even notice this thread. I gave up my spot May 14th (sorry for the late decision, it came down to the wire). I don't know how quick U of M is at refilling a spot, but hopefully one of you guys saw the spot or will see it soon.

Good luck on the waitlist. UMich is a great school. 🙂

called mich just now-

they said: "class is full, but that can change at any moment. waitlist has moved a little. waitlist movement varies from year to year." she didn't specify outstate specifics, she was very general when i asked.

apparently, the majority of waitlistees are in the middle tier.

basically, didn't get too much useful info... if anyone else cares to try and see whats up, get more exact info? post wen you do.

i called earlier this week, and the person on the phone seemed equally evasive, and perhaps a little irritated; i'm guessing we're not the only ones calling about this. i'd like very much to know how long an applicant is given to decide whether they'll accept an offer; that would give us a sense of timing in this process, although i can't quite imagine who could still have a place that they'll give up. i mean, it's been nearly 2 weeks since the may 15th deadline. i have a bad feeling about this.

bump? or is it all over? just wondering...

since orientation starts august 2nd, you can probably go ahead and give up then.

i have the feeling that maybe not much has happened yet, but who knows.

never! 🙂 perhaps, in 2008

so, how are you passing the time ?

bump this one more time...

I was offered a spot the other day off the waitlist...didn't take it so hopefully one of you will here positive news soon.

congrats- may I ask when you were offered the spot, and if u had sent them any updates... (im assuming u r in the top tier..)
