University of Michigan Waitlist News

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi everyone,
I was offered a spot off the waitlist on Monday . . . I was in the third tier (!!), in-state, just graduated from UM undergrad, and when I called about my status in April, they pretty much told me to make plans to go elsewhere. I also never sent in a LOI or extra anything.
Right now, I'm not sure if I'm going to take it - I was planning on going to the Cleveland Clinic, and am in the process of buying a condo down there - but I have two weeks to decide. I'll try to be quick and let the rest of you know if my spot is opening up!

Sorry, I would have posted here earlier but wasn't online. I got the offer this morning through e-mail. I am out-of-state. I was told that "a spot had opened up and I was next on the list." This gave me the feeling that there isn't much movement, but there is still some trickling. I agree that there has been little, if any, out-of-state movement this year. I was told back in April that I was "near the top of the top tier" of the waitlist. I felt like any other year I would have heard something right after May 15, based on what everyone else has said.

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to take the spot. I recommend keeping them updated and showing interest. Good luck everyone.

i got in off the waitlist yesterday! also out-of-state.. goodluck to everyone else-- yay, wl movement!!

congrats iris!

I got off the waitlist at Michigan on Tuesday and I will be accepting the spot. I am an in-state student and I was on the lower tier of the waitlist.

Congrats!

anyone know what tier they are now in for the out-of-state list ? im in the third tier, but i refuse to give up hope- seeing as the in-state list is into it's third tier... who knows..

i think they still in the top tier for out of staters.. cuz i havent heard anything yet. sucks that there is such a diff between in and out of state waitlists

Has anyone heard anything in the last couple weeks?

I'm outta state and in the second tier.

I need to know soon so that I can start looking for a place either in LA (if I don't get in) or in A2, but it seems that the list has kinda stagnated for the out of state people outside of the first tier.

are you in at a school in los angeles?

Yeah, as of now im going to USC.

I've been living in California all of my life, and I kinda want a change of scene. I know a lot of people might think I'm crazy for wanting to leave 60 degree winters for -60 degree winters, but I really have gotten sick of living here in LA. On top of that, I've been pretty heavily involved in neuroimaging research and USC's imaging center (which is on the undergrad campus, not at the med school) is still a few years away. Michigan, on the other hand, has one of the best research institutions in the country for the kind of stuff I do. Both schools have great reputations and doing work at a large county hospital instead of a tertiary care facility would be sweet, but I still feel like I can accomplish my future goals easier from Mich than SC. When I was there for my interview, I just kinda liked Michigan more than anywhere else I visitied (except UCSF, but that was always a longshot for me).

Either way, I have a pretty great situation.

bump.

So no out of staters have got in since June 10th ?
