Congrats! I'm still waiting to hear back from Colorado State University because I live in Colorado, so I would love to get in-state tuition and not have to move. However, if I don't get in to CSU, I will be attending U of M. Do you know which campus you would be going to? I don't know if the programs are different between the campuses.

You were able to choose one or the other, or apply to both. There is still plenty of time to hear back though, they said they send out notifications through May so good luck!
As far as the Rochester campus goes... Did they mention if OTs are able to do any of their field work at Mayo? It seems like that would make sense...

3 people responding that they got in to both campuses, means when they choose, at least 3 more spots are available! Hang in there. Hearing nothing at this point is a sign that they are still considering you.

I'm pretty sure either campus you have the potential to do placements at the Mayo clinic. The site coordinator at the school plays a part in where you go, but you typically still apply to your placements like you would a job or internship.

Awesome! I am trying to decide between TC and Rochester. My cousin went to Rochester for engineering . He said the area is not as exciting as TC, but there is still enough to do for someone who is in school. I was looking at average rent for both areas and that is probably going to be the deciding factor for me. TC rent is roughly $1,200 per month where as Rochester is $700... that's almost $20,000 cost difference over the course of the OT program.... which is basically 1-2 years difference of paying off loans after school. That's just me trying to be practical about things but I think I would rather live in Minneapolis. Do you think students get together to work on assignments? I know with it being a hybrid program a lot of the discussions are online, but it would be nice to get together and have study groups and stuff.
Don't fret you guys! They said that notifications can be sent out as late as May! I will be sending in my notification next week, so a spot will open up at the TC campus!

Congrats on your acceptance!! That's awesome that you have options.
The guy I met with actually said they don't do fieldworks at Mayo. I actually decided not to apply after my meeting, because I felt that they hybrid program probably wasn't a good fit for me and I was disappointed that they didn't have placements at Mayo. However, I know of many people who have been very happy there, and I've heard it's a great program.

Yay! What made you choose TC? I am leaning towards Rochester because it's cheaper but it seems everyone is choosing Twin cities. Also, has anyone been able to find the tuition sheet for Rochester? I am currently trying to decide between the U of MN (either the Rochester of Twin Cities campus) and UIC. I went to undergrad at the U of MN and am from Minnesota and staying close to home is something I would really like to do. But I am apprehensive about the hybrid program. Something I really like about UIC is the small and close cohort of students and the frequent connection and communication you get with the faculty. I am wondering if anyone knows how the hybrid program works in regards to making connections with both faculty and students. Is the adequate opportunity for that? If so, I would most likely choose the U of MN to be closer to home but am unsure of whether I would get that with this type of curriculum. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Hey @emnOT13 🙂 I chose TC mostly based on where I'd like to live. Honestly, I couldn't find any benefits to choosing Rochester over TC. I am not sure but I feel like TC is the main campus and I'll have access to more resources, faculty interaction, and fieldwork opportunities. I don't think you can really go wrong because it's the same program 🙂
That's true! I would love to go to TC, it is just 2x more expensive to live there, and I would have a hard time reasoning with that much of a difference in expenses. My family doesn't have any money to help me out with school so I will be relying solely on scholarships, loans, grants, and what I have saved to both pay for tuition and to live off of. So Rochester would be the more practical place to go, but TC would be more fun. Do you know if TC actually has more opportunities for fieldwork and faculty interactions, or were you just thinking that would be the case since it is a larger city and campus? If that's the case, I may need to reconsider going to TC campus...

He said it's all the same faculty in both programs. I assume that means the same fieldwork coordinator too, in which case the opportunities would be the same.
I just spoke with someone in the admissions department for OT. They said it's the same program with all of the same opportunities for fieldwork. I will be attending the Rochester campus! It is a lot more practical for me money wise. Will anyone else be going to the Rochester campus?
It seems like you definitely have already figured out what is best for yourself 🙂 It's going to be important to weigh the most significant factors... financial is definitely valid! I was just saying that I had the feeling that those may be benefits but again that is totally my opinion. I never implied there are different fieldwork coordinators or it's less of a program... actually I said it was the same program so you can't go wrong, lol 🙂 Since Minneapolis is the bigger city I assumed it will have more fieldwork opportunities (totally my own opinion) and I want to live close to my fieldwork. I'm sure people from Rochester can commute there but that's not something I want to do personally. Again each person should weigh the pros and cons of their own situation. Gotcha! Yeah I maybe just misunderstood. I thought that maybe you spoke with someone at the program who told you that there were different opportunities between the different campuses. It does make sense though that there may be more since Twin Cities is a larger area. That is so exciting for you to be moving there! I have heard only awesome things about the area and that they have great public transportation 🙂 I am going to give myself the weekend to decide, but I am still leaning towards Rochester.

Are you planning to get an apartment or live on campus? I was looking at single bedroom apartments and they are roughly $600-$800 per month which is really pretty affordable if you ask me for a single.

I actually am from Rochester originally, so my plan is to move back in with my parents to save money. I have lived in the twin cities for the past 6 years though, so I know both areas very well if you have any questions! I am not too familiar with rent prices in Rochester. I think that it has gotten more expensive than it used to be over the past few years, but is definitely still cheaper than what you would get in the twin cities. Other big factors that I took into consideration was ease of commute. The TC campus has very limited parking, but there is a lot of available parking at the Rochester campus area usually, otherwise biking there would be pretty safe and easy to do as well. Rochester obviously does not have as much to do as the twin cities would, but there actually is a pretty active night life/bar scene downtown and a lot of really good non-chain restaurants! There's a really good contemporary American place called Chester's directly on campus. Minneapolis/St. Paul is also not too far of a drive, 1 hr 30 min max.

I'm from Fort Collins, CO which is a medium size town, I think a bit bigger than Rochester but definitely smaller than TC. I think I will be more comfortable with the size of Rochester. I'm really active and love to get outdoors so I'd like to learn more about what sort of lakes, parks, biking/running trails, etc. are in the area of Rochester. If there's decent amount of stuff to do downtown and stuff to do outside, I will be plenty happy 🙂
Definitely PM me if you want! Rochester has awesome running/bike trails all through town, Quarry Hill Nature Park is a really nice place for running/biking/xc skiing/enjoying the scenery and Silver Lake Park is great for running as well. Unfortunately Rochester does not have any natural lakes, there's Silver Lake which is man-made and you cannot swim in it (lots of goose poop), but you can rent kayaks and paddleboats during the summer there. If you want real lakes, then you would need to make a day trip up to the TC area. I think you'll be able to find plenty of outdoor activities, and downtown has a lot of art/food festivals especially during the summer.

Yeah, of course... no worries 🙂 I felt bad to confuse the subject. If I were you I would definitely go to Rochester too, as it makes much more sense. However, I am coming from NYC so my concerns are a little different... cost of living is not really one but more transitioning to a smaller city without losing my mind is, lol 🤣Thanks for sharing all this info... I really appreciate any incite on the best areas to live, things to do, transportation because I'm clueless. I have booked a flight for next month to visit.
Are you planning on bringing a care here, or depending on public transportation? If the latter, I would recommend living close to the light rail.

My sister lives in NYC and she was trying to convince me to move to TC, but I honestly think that the size of the city and cost would be quite overwhelming! I'm sure TC will be a much better fit for someone from NYC... for a Colorado gal, I think Rochester will fit me better! My sister's roommate is from TC and loved the area (she now lives in NYC).

The emails that went out had a response date of March 25th by 4 pm, so I would think the next round of acceptances would go out shortly after that. It makes sense to stagger it, especially when trying to divide people between locations. I accepted Twin Cities and turned down Rochester, so there is another spot there.
The U's grad school website has some good data available if you want more of an idea of how stuff breaks down. It looks like the entering class size has been more like 48/49 vs the 45 they quote, but only about 1/3 of the class comes from out of state. https://apps.grad.umn.edu/stats/en/106080X.shtml

I haven't gotten anything back besides the automated email after submitting my deposit. I know in the email it says we will be contacted mid-may, which I'm thinking is just due to the volume of applicants they are still processing/accepting/rejecting.
I got an email because I misdated the acceptance letter, then no reply after I sent the corrected one.
