Anyone hear back from UPitt's MPH - BCHS program? I received an email from UPitt saying all my documents were received on Jan 6th. This process is killing me 😕

I signed in just for you (I check this board a ridiculous amount).

I heard back last week from BCHS that I had been recommended for acceptance and received another email yesterday confirming the acceptance. I should be receiving a letter shortly. It took to them around 3 weeks, so you've still got time. Hang in there!!

Has anyone heard from their Infectious Disease Department?

I was accepted to their Epi program on 11/24. They first sent an email, and later sent a letter in the mail. The letter is just a thin envelope that at first glance, it looks like a rejection letter. There's no welcome packet either. Also, they told me there was no funding for master's students. 🙁

Well that sucks 🙁 I still have to do my FAFSA and hear back from other schools.

However, I pretty much expected this. I'll be looking into any type of outside scholarship I can find, or at least apply after my first year when I'm counted as being an MPH student.

Yeah, I'm from Pittsburgh and I went in to talk to someone in the Epi department and they told me the same thing about no funding for Master's students. 🙁

I got an acceptance for a MPH in their Infectious Disease and Microbiology department but was whole hardly unable to accept their offer of admissions due to financial reasons. It is true, they have no financial help for master's students, at least in the IDM and Epi departments and I could not afford almost 44k a year (including room and board) for a master's degree; I was out of state so that's why it was so high; that was more then some medical schools!!

No funding for MPH'ers sucks.

But I think just about all the schools are in Pitt's price range (unless you have a scholarship or live in-state for a public school).

Tuition only for both years: UMich costs $72800 (out-of-state), Emory costs $50400, and BU $76000 ($64000 with my scholarship).
Fin aid office at UPitt told me we can apply for residency after 1 semester, which would make UPitt cost $47000. UIC would cost $44000 if you get residency after 1 year.
*All of these are approximate. There's always I chance I screwed up the calculations...

Too. much. money.

Don't worry! I think SDN just causes all of us to stress a little more than we should. It's so useful but I definitely am worrying a lot more =P But yes! I did hear back from UPitt about 2 weeks ago and I got in. I wish you the best of luck! And I'm sure you will receive a positive decision!🙂

...now on to worrying about Columbia

I can't wait till decision season is over!!

Again GOOD LUCK!

Oh btw if you dont mind, did they offer you any student aid like a GSR position "research"?

I was informed by email and I think it took around 3 weeks to hear a response. I haven't heard anything about aid yet though. I think any finaid packets come later?

You'll get in! Don't worry! But it took me closer to 3 and a half weeks..I think it just depends on how man applications they get when you apply. I got an email and then a letter in the mail...as for scholarships they were pretty clear about not providing any to masters students...you get information about their financial aid package when you get your letter

Did you apply for MPH? UPitt only offers GSR positions to PhD students. Financial aid packages are given out in the spring (usually after March).

UPitt took about 6 weeks to get back to me, so don't worry yet! They sent me a letter.

So everyone on here - including me! - has said that Pitt doesn't give scholarships to MPH/Master's students. I was told that when I visited and spoke to someone in the Epi department. But I got an email today saying I got a $1500 scholarship for the 2010-11 school year - so apparently they do give scholarships? I didn't apply for it or anything, just randomly got an email today about it. Not really planning on going there, but was surprised to get a scholarship since I had heard pretty much "straight from the horse's mouth" that they weren't given out.
