Program-Specific Info / Q's UNIVERSITY OF PUGET SOUND MOT FALL 2018

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was chosen as an alternate candidate. After seeing this thread I have hope that I could possibly get in this year. Not getting my hopes up, but I know there is a chance

For those of you still on the wait list, I'll most likely be declining my spot due to the cost. The onsite clinic seemed really intriguing, but in talking to a current student, it actually seemed like the level I exposure to different practice areas was limited compared to other programs I was accepted into. I wasn't sure the extra hands on experience was worth the cost at the expense of maybe not getting to experience a variety of practice areas that I'd be more interested in.
Thanks for your feedback, istrattot! Best of luck to you in finding a program that checks off all of your boxes 🙂

I did. A LOT of people showed up actually. I was surprised, though it makes sense.
I wasn't able to attend March 2nd but they have another one on the March 23. Was it an all-day session?

I'm curious how many people on the waitlist attended. Did you happen to meet anyone there who said they were on the waitlist? I feel like it's an advantage to attend the info session when there is no interview option.

What did you think of the program after seeing the facility and talking to faculty?

Sorry, I'm not sure. At the session, you're seated at the tables in groups, and the people I sat with were all accepted.

I definitely feel that attending the session can be very insightful, especially if you're on the fence about whether you want to attend or not. I don't know if it gives you a leg up against other people on the waitlist though.

I was very impressed by the end of the session. You will definitely get a very comprehensive, personalized experience there. The program seems to be very tailored to each individual person. For instance, the faculty tries to structure the program so that every students gets experience working with every age demographic. So if you have a lot of pediatric experience, and little geriatric experience, they'll try to assign you to do fieldwork with older adults, so that you can get more exposure working with an age group you might not have before. I really liked the on-site clinic that they have. They have one for adults and another for pediatrics. The adult one is furnished like an apartment, so you'll get to help simulate day-to-day activities with patients, which is really cool.

And from what I saw and was told, all the UPS students seem to get on very well with each other, and with their professors as well. All the first year students that we met with seemed to be happy with the program.

The campus was also very beautiful. If not for the cost, I think UPS would have been a serious consideration for me.

Thank you for sharing about your experience. It's good to hear that faculty and staff have really amiable relationships and that the program is very personalized. The set up of the clinic sounds really well thought out.

Regarding the advantage, to clarify, it's possible that an applicant on the waitlist may have the opportunity to make a more personal connection with faculty at an info session, but I find it unlikely that this connection would, in itself, change their position or standing. I think this is what you were getting at, and I agree. However, I do think they notice when applicants come (all info sessions I have attended have had an attendance sheet), and I think they appreciate and note the enthusiasm for their program, especially if they travel from out of state to attend.

Has anyone who got an acceptance with the 3/21 decision date decided against ups and given up their spot in favor of another program? Just curious what my chances are of getting off the waitlist at this point.

Hi there! I decided to give up my spot due to the cost of the program and cost of living. I loved the school, but it was just too expensive. Good luck to you!!

Hi everyone! Has anyone out there decided to attend UPS this Fall? I'm moving up from California and starting to consider housing options. Anyone else in the same boat?

I had originally accepted (and paid my deposit) my spot at UPS, but this morning I was removed from the wait list at UW. I will accept my spot at UW, so another spot will be available at UPS. Good luck!!

Hi guys! I accepted my spot at UPS and will also be moving from CA this August- so excited but nervous!! I contacted the school about housing and they said they do not provide on-campus housing for graduate students since it is located in a residential area and we basically have to find our own housing. Does anyone know if there's a FB group out there for the incoming class or know how to create one? Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hey!! I will be there too! Can't wait to start! I spoke with one of the professors and she said the Administrative Assistant will send out additional materials to us within the next week or so. And that current students will create a FB group and add us to it. Hopefully this happens fast so we can start making plans
