University of Toledo Waitlist ????

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey Depakote, how do they usually notify people of an acceptance off the waitlist? Phone call, email or both? Thanks!

Sounds like they might be e-mailing at the moment, but I was pulled pretty late (July) and they called me then. So it could be either/or both. Can't really say.

Like always with this process: uncertainty! Thanks though, your help is appreciated. 👍

So in the email I got that told me my priority, they said that they will be taking people off the wait list as late as September 5th. Now I assumed that they would pull from the wait list until the first day of class, but does school really start that late, or would the person accepted that late just miss the first few weeks of school. It seems to me like it would be hard to miss the first couple of weeks of med school, and have to catch up.

I believe that classes start on August 25th. So, this would mean that you would have 2 weeks worth of material to make up for. Obviously, this would put the student at a disadvantage, but I think it would beat the pain of going through interviews again, waiting, etc.

Orientation begins Aug 18th, White coat ceremony is Aug 22nd and classes begin Aug 25th. I haven't seen it posted on the website yet, but one of my acceptance emails stated those dates, too.

does this mean i'll almost definitely get in?

It's the best news you can get right now short of getting an actual acceptance. You'll probably get in, but if you have no other acceptances right now you should start preparing your AMCAS if you're going to reapply this year.

I wonder how big each section of the waitlist is? Anybody have any idea? Are there separate lists for instate vs out of state?

I don't know how big each section is, but I do know that there is a seperate IS and OOS waitlist, and from reading old posts it does seem like the OOS moves faster.
Also at my interview I was told that in the past they usually get all the way through the High priority, and midway through the mid priority, but last year they didn't even get through the high priority. So lets hope that last year was just a fluke.

Hey everyone,

Im new to the SDN, but i was recently assigned a spot on the high priority list of toledo and have found this thread very helpful and at least a little reassuring. Just wondering, has anyone from the high priority list been accepted yet?

I also have another question. LOI's should always be sent via mail correct? I recently heard of someone emailing an LOI and wondered if that is actually common. A letter seems much more personal. Just wondering.

I sent them via e-mail. Mail would be more formal, but e-mail works when it's late in the season and you want them to be seen right away. (Plus you might get a quick response from someone in the admissions office acknowledging that it has made it into your file)

I sent my letters through both email and the regular mail. That way they get the email copy immediately and you can say in your email that a paper copy is coming in the mail. This approach gives you immediate contact with the school and makes it harder for your letter to fall between the cracks.

did you guys send them to sandy?

I sent letters of interest to a few different schools and I always sent them straight to the dean of admissions. You're not going to get anywhere by being bashful.

Does anybody know when we should start to hear people coming off the wait list? I assume that they sent out a lot of acceptances when they prioritized the wait list, and now when those acceptances withdraw they will start pulling immediately from the wait list. Is this a correct assumption? Also how long do people get to make a decision, 1, 2 weeks?

I really want to call them to see if there has been any movement lately or maybe ask them to predict whether they think there will be a lot of movement in June. To see if not getting through high priority last year was a trend or a fluke. I just don't want to seem like I'm bugging them.

Uncertainty is going to kill me.🙁

if i dont hear anything pretty soon (this week) i think i might call in and ask if there is predicted to be any movement and on which list IS or OOS. I feel ya on the uncertainty deal, im not the type of person who can take a year off, i need to go NOW!:scared:

Well our letters said anytime between June 15 and September, so I dont think we're going to be hearing anything yet.

Edit: Unless someone wants to call to find out how many of us are there in each group. 🙂

Oh I have not gotten my letter yet, just an email, and it did not say anything about not hearing until June 15th. So thanks that is good to know.

Hi all-
New to this, but thought I would update. Just got accepted off the waitlist (top third) this afternoon! I am in state male and non-traditional. Hope everybody else that is waiting gets this relief soon...👍

O I don't remember if it was a letter or an email, but I remember seeing June 15 on there....maybe I was seeing things.

(On other news, I just got a top quartile wait list at UIC! I'm pretty stoked.😀 It would be expensive, but I'd definitely be happy!)

best news so far during my 2nd app cycle...👍

Are you sure it wasn't for another school? I haven't received a letter from Toledo and the email doesn't have June 15th on it.

Also, congrats bucknut5748.

You made me second guess myself, but yeah I just looked at it and it says June 15-Sept. 5th.

I guess that's the middle priority email from Toledo.

Edit #2: Oh and I'm OOS.

Edit #3: I also noticed that their last sentence says "We appreciate patience during this process."

 you made me triple guess myself and I went back and looked at my email again. (no June 15th) so I guess they sent each third a slightly different email. Thanks for the clarification. 👍

Do they really expect to start taking people from the middle of the alternate list by June 15th? If so does that mean that they expect to get through the high priority by then? I thought that they wouldn't even get through the high priority at all.

I think it was more of a general statement rather than specific comment to middle priority. More like thats when the list starts moving.

I thought that they wouldn't even get through the high priority at all.

Nobody really knows anything for sure at this point. A fair amount of action has yet to go down this year. Dr. Kleshinski told me that they'll pull people off the WL all the way up until when classes start if they have to.

UT has told several people that they usually get through all of the upper 1/3rd and some of the middle 1/3rd as well. But last year was a really rough year for WL movement and they didn't get through all of the upper 1/3rd.

Email today with an offer. I was high priority oos male. Accepted it. GL everyone! Keep your spirits high!

Congrats man! looks like the list is a'movin! lets hope we all hear soon!

So I called today for a different question, but decided to ask them what they thought about waitlist movement for this year and whether or not they would get through the high priority alternates, and I didnt make much progress.

I basically got the same response that I've seen on this site. I was told that waitlist movement was looking good for OOS, and if you're high priority then there's a chance. Pretty much the same thing as the letter, but she did specifically say that OOS was moving faster (as we expected).

Sorry I didnt find out anything of much interest guys (I wish I would have asked how many people were in each priority section😕). Hope the list keeps moving as it has been. Let's stay optimistic.

I also called today, and was also told that there has been good OOS movement, but not great movement, but that they do expect a lot more OOS movement.
But she didn't say anything specific about the IS movement.

Got an email today with an acceptance! Very excited AHHH! I was OOS male, high priority, "traditional". Cant wait to start med school with you guys!

Congratulations!!! Whoo-hoo!

I'm praying for quick movement on the OOS list as my son is also high priority. This is his 3rd application cycle so we're all crossing our fingers. I guess Kelly Burgin told him to call Friday (that would be 2 weeks since he found out he is high priority) to tell him where he is at on the list. Hoping he's HIGH on the high priority list!

Good luck everyone!

This waiting is killing me. I'm female/OOS High Priority list, and I'm telling you guys I can't sleep!!!! I wish they would just tell us an actual rank # so I could actually know exactly how far away I was from admission.....

OOOH actually, does anyone know how big the waitlist is? When they say "1/3rds" how many people are on the list total??---we should know this right? Based upon how many people interviewed compared to acceptances? Any thoughts on how big the top 1/3 is?

I doubt there is much correlation with undergraduate waitlists, and medical school waitlists(but I would love it if it were true.)

Also just thinking... How many acceptances do you think UTCOM sends out for every acceptance posted on SDN.

I was told the waitlist (not sure if it means the OOS waitlist or the waitlist in total) was about 80-100 students.

80-100 total or 80-100 in each third of the waitlist?

I was told the waitlist (not sure if it means the OOS waitlist or the waitlist in total) was about 80-100 students.

That likely means the waitlist in total. They have one waitlist, but they pull people from in-state when they lose an in-state person or and they pull people from out of state when they lose an out of state person, so it's one list but it functions like two.

Well 100 people total on the waitlist sounds pretty decent and ok. I hope there is a lot of movement. Like I said, I'm going nuts down here waiting and waiting in Florida...although it may be the fact it's been so hot.
