University of Toledo Waitlist ????

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I heard they are expecting things to slow down this week (I called last Monday). Because I'm middle-priority, I was told to call back in 2-3 weeks to see if there would be a chance the list reaches me this year. She said theres a few (I dont remember the exact phrasing, but it didn't sound like there were that many) left on the high priority list.

Good luck to everyone. :luck: I would love to come here as both the students and city are really nice. 👍

I talked to Sandy last week too, and she told me that there were still about 20 people in the hight priority, and assuming they started with about 40-50 in the high priority, I don't think the list is moving very much.

I am in the high priority section of the waitlist, and I haven't been admitted yet. Sandy told me that I had a good shot though, which is more encouraging news than I heard from any other school during this process. They are usually pretty tight-lipped about any sort of useful information.

It is likely that I will be admitted to Toledo -- but, I already have another acceptance at Albany Medical College. I'm not quite sure how to compare these programs. What do you think? If you had an acceptance at Albany and an acceptance at Toledo, what would you do? (Ignoring the differences in cost)

This might help you with the decision.

I spoke with admissions yesterday and asked them about the waitlist because i just got into RFU but i wanted to go to toledo more and they said that as of now they still expect the waitlist to move because it's too early for the class to be set as it is, however they said they haven't given an acceptance all this week and thus the waitlist hasn't moved even tho it was moving steady last week.......not the best of news but i figuered i'd at least share

Yeah, that is depressing news. My son called today and Sandy basically told him the same. Also, she said that they're not confident that they'll be able to get through the entire list of High Priority folks. 🙁 So, my son is pretty bummed - plus, he found out he has a meniscule (sp?) tear in his left knee that will require surgery and put him out of commission from working out for 7 weeks! All of this news on the same day. He says he's not going to let it get him down, but how can you not? Oh well, I admire his tenacity, patience and perseverance.

I admire ALL of YOU for that too!

All the best,

Futuredr'smom

I had to take a deferral for personal reasons. I'm very sad that I don't get to start this year!

Anyway, this should open up a seat for someone on the WL. I hope one of you eager people here get it!

sorry to hear that Ginzo, you had solid scores and were really helpful and informative. kinda bummed that you wont be there

^Thanks. There's always next year.

My feeling is that medical school is hard enough on its own without throwing personal issues on top of it. Best to get everything straight before you start.

I'm sorry to hear that too, Ginzo. But I'm glad that they were willing to give you the deferral this late in the year. Good luck and I hope you can enjoy your year without worry!

Yes, it's really awesome how student-centered the school is. Very good sign for the time we'll spend there.

It's OK that I have to defer because next year I get to ask all you guys lots of questions as you'll be MS2s with lots of experience to draw from!

Forgive my ignorance on this, but does that open up a spot for someone else? I'm assuming it does. Ginzo - are you an OOS or IS student?

Thank you so much!

Yes, it does open up a seat for someone. I'm IS, so they'll likely pull another IS person to keep the class balanced.

Just got in this morning!!!!! I was too excited to ask anything else on the phone, but the waitlist must still be moving.... (i'm oos)

I was in-state, GPA 3.9 Mcat: 31 (B:13, P:11,:V7)........but i declined the offer so best of luck to all

I'm not sure. UIC gave me a decent package, but I really liked what I saw on my interview day at Toledo. So I'm waiting a little longer with Toledo.

I'm a girl and I just got in off the wait list! I'm an oos female!

middle:
36p, 3.3gpa, lots of research

This post has really died down; I guess that is to be expected. Just curious what everyone is planning on doing? reapplying? going somewhere else?

My son is going to take a year off and beef up his application and then reapply. 🙁

Anybody bothering to call Toledo regarding the waitlist? My son has given up - he's says they are not really very pleasant when they answer his questions. Anyone had that experience?

Thank you!

Futuredr'smom,

So...does anybody know when classes start at U of T? Is it fairly unlikely that anyone would turn down their acceptance at this point (and open up a new one for someone else)? It seems like it to me.

First year orientation is this week. Classes officially start next Monday. Classes at other schools are starting to get in gear. There is the possibility of someone withdrawing/deferring/getting off another waitlist... but I agree that it is getting pretty remote. I'm sorry.

P.S. What do you think about my son trying the US Air Force? Would they put him through med school? I was in the AF albeit 20 yrs ago and so was my father. My son would just be following in our footsteps! However, the possibility of sending him off to Iraq or the like is not what any of us (my family) would want.

Military medicine is definitely an option, but the way it works is they give you the scholarship after you get a medical school acceptance. It's a big commitment and could possibly affect residency matching. A lot of former milmed docs are highly critical of it as well. It's not something that you want to undertake without doing a TON of research on beforehand. And each military branch is a little bit different. Don't listen to recruiters! Your son should be extremely committed to serving the military. Taking the scholarship just for the money is a really, really bad idea.

Thanks Ginzo. The military doesn't sound like the way to go for my son.

I called the admission's office yesterday to verify that no one else would be called up from the waitlist and whomever I spoke with confirmed this. I asked her if she would be sending an e-mail to those people on the waitlist to let them know this and she said she "might". How rude. I think everyone on the waitlist deserves to have at least an e-mail informing them that things are over for this application cycle. After all, people are probably devastated (like my son is) that they have to spend more time and money to try again. The least U of T could do is to say something like "sorry, but no not this time." Pisses me off for my son. I didn't tell him anything about my call cos I didn't want to upset him any further about this whole thing. Sheesh...

Sorry to rant.

So I'm waitlisted at Toledo and I plan on sending a letter of interest once I have an additional physician recommendation and a little more shadowing. Should I send this letter before the wl is formed to ensure that I'm in the high priority list or after to bump me up?

FWIW - in state, 3.3 cum 3.5 sci 35 mcat
