Hello everyone,

I absolutely loved my visit to Utah. Beautiful mountains, affordable, very nice people, and I think I can stand the Mormons. My one concern is that it's a newer (applying for the 2nd class) program. I want to get people's takes on this.

Liked:
Faculty
Facilities
Great class of Interns
Didactics

Concerning:
-Ultrasound training seems to be lagging
-It's a division of Surgery, and it seems that there are still many battles to be fought.
-Some residents expressed concern over a lack of integrated Pediatric experience
-There are many battles to be fought as far as off-service rotations go.

Any thoughts?

i thought utah was great too...
i asked PD directly about the integrated peds and this has already been implemented according to him and the residents made that change happen very easily...there are still many battles to fight, but some people like to have some say in making a program what they want and this is definitely the place for that! this program has some bumps to be worked out but i think it will be one of the top programs in the country very soon, given the incredible residents, faculty, and desirable location...but not the place for someone who doesn't want to put in the extra effort that is obviously required when you are one of the first classes of a new program.

missdr-

Did the PD happen to say anything about Ultrasound training? It sounds like you've gotten updated info since I was there. Do you think it's a competitive match?

didn't hear anything about ultrasound but i didn't really think it was an issue when i was there...i didn't look too closely at the curriculum but i am sure that if you have an interest in it you can get enough of it doing electives or shaping the curriculum to include more...i think it is a very competitive match and the first year class is full of very competitive residents...and they have the BEST skiing 😀 PM me if you have any specific questions!
