Hi guys,

I was wondering what your thoughts were on these 2 med schools. Which is considered higher tier, etc? Thanks!

dont know myself, but congrats on vermont. r u oos??i want in!

so where r u going??

The curriculum at UVM is just amazing and so is the general feeling of school. they are generally held in pretty high esteem especially in terms of clinical training and they pretty decent match list.

I have heard nothing but good things about UVM (both on SDN and from alumni), and I have heard many complaints about Albany (on SDN).

UVM no doubt!!!! It's so much higher in the ranking, isn't it?

I don't know anything about Albany, but I interviewed at UVM and was unbelievably impressed. But for the location, I thought it was an amazing medical school. The curriculum was excellent, the administration helpful, the facilities nice and new, the student body friendly and laid back, and the technology and online resources blew me away. If you don't need city life, I'd say UVM is a truly wonderful medical school, and that you couldn't go wrong there.

As for your question about "higher tier," I think that's pretty irrelevant. Unless you're talking about a top 10 or top 25 compared to a school that's not "highly" ranked, I don't think it makes much of a difference. Just go where you think you'll be happiest, where it's cheapest, and/or where you want to live. Good luck.

I have heard good things about both schools but when it comes finances, you are better off at Albany. The tuition at UVM is 40K+ alone while I think you can become a NY resident in 1 year. So if you have a lot cash go UVM but if you would prefer not to be in debt for 200K by the time you graduate Albany is a better choice. It (Albany) is a very well known school and I would go there any day without looking back.

Congrats on your acceptances.👍

What does getting NY state residency have to with this, Albany is a private school not a SUNY

Not sure yet 🙁

Keep the replies coming, guys. I really appreciate your input.

You might get more on point advice if you offer some background about yourself, your interests, or what you value most in a med school. Did you have a gut feeling one way or the other after your interviews at the schools?

Regardless, good luck with your decision. When do you have to decide by?

Are you really going to ask a large group of young 20-something year old students which school is better?? The people on this forum have just as much authority on which schools are superior to one another as a group of 4th graders. You interviewed at both schools, which one is a better fit? When you answer that question, you'll have the answer on where you should go to medical school.

As a VT resident who wants to stay in VT, UVM would be my first choice, but I was very impressed by Albany during my visit and would have a hard time choosing if not for my ties to VT. Hmmm... I guess that doesn't help. Do you have reservations about attending either school? It would help us to know a little more about what aspects/attributes are important to you.

:corny: Braaaaaaazing!!!! I am still convinced Albany is to die for!!:soexcited: By the way, they have special scholarships and low interest loans for NY residents (which happens after 1year), if you have questions about financing your education.

Oh? Can you share more detail? I am a NYS resident.

Tuition + fees at Albany is in the mid-40 range. Granted, Albany is far cheaper to live in than Burlington, but you will still be 200K in debt.

UVM is a nice school, so is Albany. Doctor J's rule of multiple acceptances - go wherever is cheaper. Money is a real consideration and people don't give it enough thought.

I was referring to the financial aid bulletin on Albany's website. They have some very interesting info about loans, scholarships for NYS residents. It could be a deciding factor if financing is a priority for you.

Good luck.👍

Thanks -- I'll have to look into that. Are you still on the UVM waitlist?

+SUNY U. The NY schools seem to have good rep. and they offer a lot of incentives for students to study and live in NYS. Since I have no money right now, the money issue will play a big factor in where I go, that is if my lucky rabbit foot actually works:luck:. UVM's use of technology turns quite a few heads also. So..., roll the dice 😎.
